Chapter 2

"Good morning Abuela".

"Good morning tesoro".

Abuela loved staying outdoors. There was this big apple tree with big fruits and a nice shade.

She loved to spend her time there reading and knitting.

"How was your night?".

"It was splendid", Diya smiled genuinely.

There was no one to yell at her, hit her or threaten her.

The only disturbing activity was poppy's snoring and her moving around which Diya didn't mind at all.

"Diya tesoro, i found you something to do", Abuela said.

"A Luna is around".

Diya looked up as poppy came outside.

"Morning", Poppy greeted.

"Morning novio".

"Morning pops".

"A Luna is around?", Poppy asked.

"Yes, with her son and she needs someone to help her clean the room she's staying in".

"Isn't she a Luna?, our Luna should be in charge of that".

"Our Luna is in charge, she's the one that told me to help her get someone", Abuela replied.

"So why not use the omegas?".

Abuela nodded her head and sipped on her ginger tea.

"The omegas are busy".

"Why?".

"The future Alpha's birthday is tomorrow".

Yeah, Diya didn't know that. She was quite sure she was the only one in whole pack who didn't know that.

"I'm sure they can spare just one omega to help her", Poppy said.

"They can't".

"Why not?, she's a Luna".

"Poppy, what did i tell you about asking too many questions?".

"But the world is full of questions".

Abuela glared at her then ignored her.

"Will you do it, Diya?, our Luna is willing to pay".

Diya nodded gently.

She really had no choice, she still needed to feed her father and buy more groceries.

Diya went back inside and dressed up.

"You need to eat", Abuela yelled as she ran past them.

"I'll eat when i get back", Diya turned to her and signed.

"I'll go with you", Poppy said.

"Bye Abuela".

Diya and Poppy walked to the pack house. Poppy bought some snacks on the way which they munched on and she stared down anybody who stared at them, well Diya actually.

When they got to the pack house, it was buzzing with omegas running around. They walked around until they found the Luna in the garden.

"Luna", they bowed.

"Poppy, Diya".

"Come here dearies, how are you?", she kissed their cheeks.

Their Luna was pretty and very nice. Although the same couldn't be said for their Alpha.

"We're fine, Luna", poppy replied.

"I believe you guys are here for the job, right?".

Diya nodded her head and Poppy said yes.

"I'm sorry about this, It's just that Timon's birthday is tomorrow".

She beckoned to a guard.

"He'll lead you to the Luna's room and I'll pay you handsomely when you're done, you can even have some food before you leave".

The girls thanked her and followed the guard.

The pack house was pretty large, they dodged kids running around, the water guns and the rest.

Some people greeted them as they passed by while others just looked them down.

The guard then led them down the white painted corridor and knocked on a door which a very beautiful woman opened.

She smiled at them as they all bowed theirs heads then the guard left without a word.

"Hi, you must be the girls the luna sent"

Diya found her voice very beautiful as Poppy quickly replied yes.

The Luna then ushered them in and a boy was lying on the bed snoring.

"Ignore him, that's my son".

They nodded and looked around the room.

"We'll be back later so take your time", she said as she walked over to the bed and smacked the boy.

"Wake up!".

The boy groaned and hid his head under the pillow.

"I said wake up".

"No", he groaned again.

"Sorry about this", the Luna apologized looking very embarrassed.

"Well, the boy obviously enjoys his sleep", Poppy commented through the mindlink even though she knows Diya won't reply.

People had come to a conclusion that Diya's mind link was severed since she hadn't spoken after her mom's death, both verbally and through the mind link.

Stupid people, how can the mindlink it was severed when the alpha is not dead and I'm still a member of the pack?, Diya had thought to herself.

The whole pack assumed It was a one sided thing.

Diya nodded her head at the Luna's comment.

The Luna took off her shoe and repeatedly began to smack the boy.

"Carlos, wake up".

Poppy giggled and Diya smiled.

"Mom!".

The boy finally opened his eyes and glared at his mom.

Poppy's eyes were wide as she stared at the boy while the boy was ranting to his mom.

"Mate", Poppy said beside Diya.

The boy turned to us and his eyes widened too.

He jumped out of bed and was in front of Poppy in seconds.

"Mate", he growled back.

"Well that's nice", the Luna said.

Carlos refused to leave as they worked and he couldn't stop staring at Poppy.

Poppy stole glances at him as she worked making Diya smile to herself, she was happy for her best friend.

When they finished, they went to look for the Luna and found her with the other Luna.

"We're done Luna", Poppy announced.

"Thank you very much".

"Just doing our job", Poppy said.

"You don't talk much", Carlos's mom said looking at Diya.

"She's mute", Diya's Luna said gently.

The other Luna gasped in shock then smiled.

"Well she's doing pretty well".

Diya smiled as they got paid and Carlos went home with them.

At Poppy's house, Poppy explained everything to Abuela. After they had split the money, Diya said goodnight to the Winters and went home not forgetting to buy groceries on the way.

When she got home, her father wasn't back yet so she quickly prepared food and locked herself in her basement then went to sleep.

When Diya woke up the next day, she cleaned the house and cleared the broken bottles.

She then made some breakfast, ate then went back to sleep.

She was still sleeping when someone came in.

Diya had expected it to be her father but it turned out to be Poppy.

"I need to tell you something Diya".

"What?", Diya signed with a yawn.

"I'm leaving".

Diya whose eyes were wide open by now stared at Poppy as she continued talking.

"The Luna came to our house this morning and told us Abuela and i that we have to leave with them this evening after the party".

"You're leaving today? this evening?".

"Yes Diya, yes".

Diya nodded her head as she held a tight-lipped smile.

How was she going to survive?.

Whether she admitted it or not, she knew she needed Poppy Winters and Abuela.

"I want you to come with us", Poppy said, breaking her out of her thoughts.

"What about dad?".

Poppy smacked Diya's arm angrily.

"Don't be stupid, come with us".

Diya declined her request politely and Poppy looked like she was about to cry.

She couldn't leave her father, she needed to take care of the man. She understood losing his mate had changed him and Diya knew leaving him would even worsen things.

Poppy hugged her tightly.

"I'll miss you Diya".

"Me too, Poppy".

They spent the rest of the day doing all of their favourite things together until Abuela mind linked Poppy in the evening.

Diya followed Poppy back to her house and Abuela hugged her tightly knowing she won't go with them.

"Oh tesoro", she hugged Diya like a child.

Diya looked around and saw their things were already packed in the car and they were ready to leave.

"Will you be OK?", they asked her.

Diya who was trying to hide the sad pain nodded her head with a smile and they smiled in return.

She lied.

Of course, she would not be okay. She was going to be far from okay but she wasn't going to use her pain to stop either Poppy or Abuela from going.

Diya gave poppy her favourite tee and skirt to keep and Poppy had given Diya her favourite sneakers.

Abuela gave Diya the cutest knitted sweater and she wore it immediately to show gratitude.

The Luna then smiled at Diya.

"Hopefully, we'll see each other again", she said.

Carlos looked at Diya and smiled.

"Sorry, I'm taking your best friend away but you know how this works, we were initially going to leave this evening and after finding my mate, i just have to take her along".

He rubbed the back of his neck and Diya smiled at him letting him know It's OK.

Poppy hugged her friend again and entered the car before they drove off.

After that, Diya went to her mother's grave and just sat there.

She told her everything that happened then wished her mother a goodnight and went home.

When Diya got to the door of hee house, a foul stench reached her nose.

She found her father in a pool of blood.

His own blood, a knife was embedded in his chest.

Diya couldn't scream.

She knelt next to him and held onto to the knife and cried.

She was crying so hard that she didn't hear when people barged in.

They looked at her and gasped in horror.

"She killed him", they said.

Diya shook her head, trying to tell them it wasn't like that but nothing came out of her mouth.

She willed herself up and tried to explain.

"Alert the alpha", someone said.

No, the alpha will sentence me to death, Diya's heart beat in fear.

"On the future alpha's birthday", another said bitterly.

Diya shook her head frantically as she cried but they didn't believe her so she did the only thing she could to save herwelf.

She ran.

She ran towards the window and shifted then jumped out of it.

"Catch her!".

She knew her bloody paws would lead them to her so she ran across a small stream thereby cleaning paws.

Then, she continued to run until she reached a cliff and they were gaining on her.

Diya shifted and looked back at them.

"Take her", a guard said.

Diya looked over the cliff and saw water below.

I would rather drown than die by being sliced with a knife a thousand times, she thought.

Closing her eyes, she ran over the cliff and jumped to her death.

The last thing they saw was Diya's body being swallowed by a sea serpent.
