Chapter 6

The last part of the show is when Izzy lays on the floor, the pole between her legs. I slowly slide up and down, twirling and playing with my own nipples. She sits there, unable to reach me with her whip, but still trying. I slide down and move back up before she reach me everytime. I throw one leg out, letting the other one stay wrapped around the pole as I spin around sliding down until I land on top of Izzy. I pin her hands over her head and trail kisses down her stomach until the lights dim, telling us our time is over.

We walk off the stage, well more like stumble, behind the bar so Thomas can let us back in the room. The crowd erupts with claps, and whistles, making it sound a lot busier than it was when we got here. I don't dwell on that though. I just make my way through the room and wait to hear the door click shut behind up before I pull Izzy to me and our lips clash in a desparate, needy way.

We finally realize, too late, the other girls that are in the room. We hear a few throats clear and pull apart, meeting a couple smiling face, and one or two sneering ones.

"That was hot as fuck." One of the girls said. The girl I said needed help with transitions. "I don't know you though, are you a new girl?" She asks and she points towards me and I shake my head.

"No, she's not new. She's old. Well, not old, but someone who used to work here." Izzy smiles to the girl, and one of the sneering ones steps closer.

"That wasn't dancing. That was straight p**n." She scoffs before trying to turn away, only to run into the girl behind her.

"Sex sells sweetie. Don't judge someone for doing it better," I say, unable to stop myself. She scoffs in response, but doesn't say anything.

The girl who needs help doesn't let it bother her though. "I've seen some of those moves somewhere though. I just have to figure out where." Her blonde hair bobs while she nods her head in thought. Izzy looks at me before I nod and she steps towards the girl.

"Starlight, meet Skyline. All the videos you watched about performance and how to put on a show were made by her. She's the best in this city, whether people like it or not."

Her hazel eyes open wide, her mouth spreading out into a grin. "No way! Ok, so I totally won't fangirl here, but OMG!!" She screeches and the bitter bitch turns around like she has something to say. She looks familiar, but I can't place her under all the makeup and glitter. She decides not to speak though, instead pushing past us to leave for the night. We were the last act of the night, the finale so to speak. Proabably took her spot and she's salty.

"Could you teach me some things? Not now obviously, but when you have free time? I've been working so hard to get it right, but something isn't clicking and I can't tell what it is. Izzy always says such good things about the way you helped other girls come into themselves, and I would love the opportunity."

I nod in response and Izzy gets the hint and takes over for me.

"Today's been a rough day for her. Give her a couple days to settle back into things and we'll find you here ok?" Izzy says and the light dims in her eyes a little, so I reach for her hand and pull her towards me.

My lips brush against hers, not as soft as Izzy's, but nice, safe almost. I murmur too exhausted to use energy I don't have. "I'll help you. Promise." Izzy's laughter breaks the spell and I step back from her and she huffs out air.

"Cheese and rice woman. I get why they call you a sex goddess. I always thought it was an exaggeration, but here I am ready to throw myself at your feet after barely a kiss." She shakes her head with a smile on her face. "This is gonna be sooo much fun!" She squeals before she grabs her bags and rushes out of the room.

"Come home with me babe. Let me take care of you for tonight." Izzy whispers in my ear and I just nod, falling against her. We stand like that for a couple minutes before slowly moving to get dressed. Neither one of us puts on the clothes we had on, instead throwing on extra sweatpants and tshirts. Her house isn't far and it's not like we're going to run into anyone here.

We're heading towards the door when Thomas stops us.

"You two want your pay?" Right. Pay. Something I wasn't expecting, but could use right now. We turn back towards him and he comes to us, holding out two envelopes.

"You two sure know how to put on a show. I still got a damn hard on. Is that the kind of show the bosses men were talking about last time?" He asks Izzy and she smiles and nods, laughter coming out before she can stop it.

"You should have seen the mens' faces the first night we did one of these routines. It wasn't busy, it was actually dead in here, so we thought it would be a good trial run. We weren't excpecting them all to show up halfway through the routine." Izzy says before grabbing the envelopes and handing me one.

"I gotta get her home Thomas, she's had a hell of a day. See ya tomorrow." She says as I wave and head out the door.

A man heads towards us, no older than twenty, wearing the uniform of the staff. He doesn't look familiar though, so he must be new. I come here pretty often; their food is some of the best I've had. The drinks are just a plus. He picks up two waters from the server station and brings them over to our table. "Good afternoon, ladies. Your server will be right with you, could I get anything started for you?" He asks, his dark hair falling into his eyes. "That depends." I say as I look over to Izzy."Are you old enough to serve us liquor?" She asks in a more polite tone that I could have managed. He chuckles and nods his head. "Just turned twenty two last month, miss." He says, a smile on his handsome face. He's good looking for a young man, just needs a little more confidence. "Good. Can you get us two Mimosas please?" Izzy asks to which he nods and turns towards the bar."We can't fuck with him, can we?" I ask. I always ask because in this day and age something that was meant to be

  • The Night the Mask Falls   Chapter 31

I drive home in my trusty toyota, windows half down so my hair doesn't get ruined, radio at full blast. I am enjoying the last little bit of peace my brain has allowed me to have. What people don't understand about me, is that I do have all the same emotions as everyone else. I just don't show them or really know how to process that. My parents made sure I was a shell of who I could be while I lived with them. I really didn't become who I was until I went to college. My house sits at the end of the street, right next to the little playground the community pitched in for long before we moved here. The porch light is on, which irritates me since it's the middle of a beautifully sunny day. The house is dark though and Jack's car isn't in the driveway, so maybe I'll be able to put this off a little longer. I pull into my regular spot, not in the garage; never that. The garage is "a man's domain" even though Jack has never done any physical labor a day in his life. Wouldn't even know wha

  • The Night the Mask Falls   Chapter 30

We drink our coffee in silence, neither one of us ready to face today. I'm not sure what Izzy has going on today, but she has something on her mind and doesn't want to share yet. I need to face reality and see what's going on at my actual home and see if my husband has noticed I haven't been there. I almost would rather start all the way fresh somewhere new, but that just isn't realistic. It is the one thing I've always wanted though. Complete separation, just like my older brother. He comes around at Christmas, if he feels like it, and doesn't give a damn about how that makes my parents feel. I love that for him and have always envied him for it."You gonna handle your life today?" Izzy asks before sitting up and adjusting her robe."Yea. I can't keep putting it off. I still have three days off work, so I have time to figure out the rest of it, but I do need to see what's been happening at the house that holds my name on the deed." "Don't let him gaslight you babe. He literally add

  • The Night the Mask Falls   Chapter 29

I wake up on the balcony, laid out in the lawnchair Izzys tans in out here. She says since it's so high up she gets better attention from the sun up here. The sun hasn't fully shown it's face yet, but the sky is bright with orange and purple hues. I'm grateful I'm allowed to sit here and witness this; for it to be the first thing I see this morning. My soul really needed that. I don't hear Izzy moving around yet, and since I don't want to wake her I just sit here, letting the cool air brush across my face and stare at the sky. I should have known Jake was cheating on me. There were signs, plenty of them. But a prideful woman doesn't admit those things. A "refined woman" doesn't speak those words out loud. She doesn't cause a scene, doesn't yell or scream. Doesn't throw things and demand he choose a side. No. A "refined woman" takes the scraps her husband throws at her is is grateful for them. She takes the verbal abuse, the condenscending demeanor of the man vowed to love her. She a

  • The Night the Mask Falls   Chapter 28

By the time we pull into Izzy's garage, I am mentally and physically exhausted. Everything from the last few days hits me at once. I don't cry, I'll give myself that, but I do stare at the plain white garage wall for longer than I need to. "You ready?" Izzy asks. The ding starts as soon as she opens her door and it brings me back to the here and now. "Ready as I'm gonna be tonight." I answer, opening my own door and stepping into the humid space. As soon as we get inside Izzy drops her bags and starts stripping clothes off. It takes less than one minute for the shower to kick on and fill the empty silence. My stomach is screaming at me for food; something I've pretty much abandoned for the last couple of days. I dig in my purse for my phone and finally turn it on, something else I've been avoiding. "Food's already on the way!" Izzy yells from the shower. Sometimes I think she knows me better than I know myself. I have missed this time with her, the only time I can really be myself

  • The Night the Mask Falls   Chapter 27

I stand there, too stunned to move. I really shouldn't, but I can't help myself, the words come out before I can stop them. "Oooohhh, so I'm the main character in your dreams. Tell me." I pause for effect, then continue."What do you do to me in these dreams?" I ask in the voice that comes out whenever it feels needed. His breath hitches, just enough for me to catch it."Careful, there. Might not want to find out." He says, his voice deep in the silent space."Or maybe I do." I say, again before I can stop myself. Shit, this isn't good. My lack of filter and common sense is really not helping me out right now. Before either of us can talk again the man with Malaki clears his throat before walking towards Thomas. I can't hear what he says to him though, just hear his laughter and a minute later feel Izzy grabbing my arms to drag me to her. The loss is immediate, but more importantly, the fog in my head is clearing, finally letting me think straight again. Damn it, I forgot all about

"That isn't all I've found that looks suspicious." She slides over another stack of papers, this one with both of our names at the top. There's a few highlighted lines on each of the ten pages, some of them I recognize, some I don't. I grab her pen from on top of her laptop and put a check mark in

The meeting went better than I could have imagined, I think I even impressed my boss a little. Which is a damn good thing since he just gave me a pay raise.
