Chapter 8

" Alpha Victor, " I called out, but was ignored as he walked out of the office. I closed my eyes, for fear that he would drop me, but he began to walk downstairs.

I hid my face in his chest in case someone passed. The last thing I wanted was to be reprimanded by the pack members for trying to seduce their Alpha because I knew he wouldn't care to correct their thoughts. After all, I was a weak and pathetic Omega who couldn't even walk.

We got out of the house, but he kept walking. My legs were fine already, they weren't trembling anymore. I tried to tell him to put me down so I could walk back to the Omega's house, but strangely, I wasn't able to talk. It was like they were sealed and I knew it was his doing.

We got to the front of the Omega's house, and prayed that he wouldn't take me inside. Fortunately, he stopped walking and put me down, pink color creeping to my cheeks.

" Thank you, Alpha, " I bowed my head in respect, but he ignored me and walked away. I heaved out a sigh, knowing he was back to his usual self and entered inside the house, going straight to my room.

I opened the door slowly to avoid making noise as I knew Julia would be asleep as it was late already. I adjusted her wrapper to cover her whole body and went to my bed, drifting into sleep as soon as I laid down.

VICTOR BLOODBORNE

' What the hell did I just do? ' I thought to myself as I walked away from Omega's house. I couldn't believe that I just did something as stupid as that and for Maya at that. I didn't know what came over me, I wasn't one to act rashly like that.

I walked back to my office. I was going to be working overnight with Gabriel today as there had been a lot of work that he had yet to complete.

" Where did you go? I was surprised not to see you in your office, " Gabriel said as soon as I entered inside.

" I went outside for some fresh air and ended up taking a walk around the Pack, " I lied. It would sound absurd if I told him I carried Maya in my arms back to Omega's house just because she couldn't walk.

" So, what did you notice while walking around? You mostly do that when you want to find something to renovate, " he asked again and I knew he didn't believe my lie. I couldn't blame him though, my lie made no sense. How would I be walking around the Pack at night?

Deciding not to give him a reply, I walked to my chair and sat down as I picked up my pen and started writing again.

I wasn't able to complete what I was doing earlier as I watched her sleep. She felt calm and the way she snuggled on the chair, trying to make herself comfortable actually got my heart beating.

I wanted to take her to the sofa so she could sleep more comfortably as I knew her neck was going to ache the moment she got up, but I kicked against the idea without giving it much thought.

She wasn't the one for me, I couldn't do anything to make her feel otherwise. But my actions this night proved me wrong, I just couldn't overlook her trembling legs. I didn't know what was wrong with me, I have never acted that way towards anyone before.

"Alpha Victor," Gabriel called out, his tone laced with concern. I turned to look at him, wondering what was amiss. "You haven't been listening to me. Is everything alright?" he asked, his brows furrowing.

"Gabriel," I replied, my voice laced with uncertainty. He raised a questioning brow, waiting for me to continue. "What do you think of Maya?" I inquired, curious to hear his perspective.

"Maya? Your wife?" he questioned, a hint of surprise coloring his voice. I wanted to reprimand him for his choice of words, but deep down, I knew he was right. Maya was indeed my wife, so I nodded in acknowledgement. "Hmm... she's undeniably beautiful and seems amiable, but she appears fragile and vulnerable.

Her presence could potentially be exploited as a weakness against us. While she may possess a quick wit and the ability to stand up for herself, I struggle to envision her as our Luna," he shared his thoughts, echoing the very sentiment I had hoped to hear.

"But Victor, everything I just mentioned is based on assumptions and what I perceive you want to hear. However, I genuinely believe you should give her a chance. Yes, she may be weak, but we can help her cultivate her strength. I don't think you should abandon her; it would be akin to abandoning a member of our pack," Gabriel advised, his words carrying a note of sincerity. I exhaled deeply, grappling with conflicting emotions.

His words caught me off guard. While part of me wanted to help Maya discover her inner strength, I struggled to see any glimmer of hope within her. The last thing I desired was to invest my time and effort in rescuing something that seemed already lost.

Before I could dwell further on these thoughts, a knock echoed through the room, signifying permission for the visitor to enter. One of the guards stepped inside, bowing respectfully to both Gabriel and me. I recognized him as one of the guards I had dispatched to monitor the Moonfire Pack.

"Alpha, Beta, I bring news from the Moonfire Pack," he announced, his voice carrying a grave tone. Gabriel and I exchanged a knowing glance before granting him permission to continue. My heart raced in anticipation for the news he was about to deliver. What could it be?

"Alpha Caleb of the Moonfire Pack is dead," he delivered the startling revelation, sending shockwaves through our very core.
