Mag-log inAmelia's POV
"So, is this going to be a normal thing?", Katy asked, leaning forward. "Until the man who attacked her is caught", he answered confidently.
"What time do you have to be at the diner for your shift?", he redirected the conversation. "5pm. 5-9", I said, answering what I was sure was his next question as well. He nodded his head as he looked in his rear-view mirror.
"I'll be back later to pick you up for work. Call me if you need me", he said, peering over at me, after he put the vehicle in park. "I will. Thank you for the ride", I said gently, as I closed the door. He rolled the window down. "Amelia", he called out, making me turn around to face him. "You're welcome. Please be safe", he uttered.
I grinned as I turned back around to walk to my door. "So, do you want to tell me what is going on between you and the sexy Chief?" Katy teased. I looked back at his vehicle, he had already rolled the window back up. However, I could still feel his eyes on me.
"Nothing. He is just doing his job", I answered her, as I unlocked my front door. Another cruiser pulled up on the opposite side of the street. Jaxon waited until we were inside to pull off. "It doesn't seem that way", she poked. "But, it is", I deadpanned.
I could hear his words float around in my head, begging to stay safe because he wanted to get to know me. "Are you okay, Ame?", she asked softly. I suppose she is finally grasping the severity of the situation. "Yeah. I'm starving. Let's whip something up for lunch", I chirped, attempting to change the subject. I was hungry, though.
"Yaass. Girl, that mid-term kicked my ass", she exasperated, as we headed into the kitchen. I pulled everything that we need for sandwhiches out. Katy and I are always good at making a mess. Though, we work good together to clean it up, every time.
We sat on the couch and put on a crime documentary. Usually, this would be comforting for me. But, not today. Sitting here and listening to how these people were brutually raped and murdered only serves to agitate my anxiety.
"Kat, can we do something, or watch something else?", I asked, looking over at her. "Of course, of course", she chanted, jumping up from the couch. Katy put some tunes on and we chose a room that needed work. Today is the garage.
I'm converting it into an entertainment room. "So, what happened with Kayla?", she asked, as she helped me pick up my construction trash. I started a mural of a forest on one wall.
"She spilled coffee on me, and then told me that everyone had hoped that I died and that he came back for me", I explained. "What?", she screeched. "Yeah. I ended up jumping on her in the middle of the diner. The Chief had to pull me off of her", I told her.
"Oh my gosh. What a bitch! I hope he gets her instead", Katy said. The passion that follows Katy is one of the many things I love about her. "That's what I told her. Plus a few other choice words", I chuckled with a shrug, playing innocent.
Time slipped passed us as we talked, painted, sang, danced, and just goofed off together. Katy and I met in kindergarten, she was a new student in the middle of the school year. I reached out to her extending a friendly hand when Katy was bullying her. We have been best friends ever since.
A pounding at my door startled the both of us.
"Shit. It's 4:30. That's probably the Chief", I told Katy, turning down the music. "Why would he pound on the door like that, though?", she asked, skeptically. I shrugged my shoulders as we walked towards the front of the house.
"The music was loud. Maybe we just didn't hear him the first time", I defended, brushing it off. "Weird", she muttered. I opened the door prepared to greet Jaxon. "I'm sorry. I'm not rea..", I stopped mid-sentence, mid-word, the smile on my face falling straight to the ground.
Jaxon's POV"Sure. Where are we going?", I asked, walking towards her. "To pack a bag if I'm staying with you for a few days", she answered, as we headed up the stairs. I couldn't help but stare at her ass, as she climbed the steps. "God bless", I growled under my breath. "What?", Amelia uttered, looking over her shoulder at me. "I'm just admiring your ass, baby girl", I smirked, watching her cheeks flush red. She cleared her throat, continuing to lead me to her room. We approached a large, hand-carved oak door. Swirls carved onto the thick wood, gave the illusion of it being on fire. It hits me that this will be my first time in her room. "Forgive the mess. It's under construction", she grinned. My jaw fell open as I took it all in. The high-vaulted ceilings, with a large, round, black chandelier hanging in the middle. Agaisnt one wall sits a 4-poster, king-sized canopy bed, made with solid wood. A beautiful wave pattern carved into it. In another corner is a floor-to-ceiling boo
Jaxon's POVAmelia gripped my bicep, her fingers trembling against my arm. Croads picked the package up and brought it back to the living room. She sat it on the coffee table, giving Amelia an expecting look. "It's addressed to you", Croads said to her. Meaning they won't open it because it's a federal offense. Amelia eased her way back to the couch. I sat next to her, as she prepared herself to open it. Amelia gasped as she turned her entire body into mine. I quickly caught her and peeked into the box. A finger. 'Bit by bit, princess'"Can y'all take it and leave please?", Amelia turned her head to say. "Take all of it and leave. Please. No more tonight", she said, her voice breaking as she buried her face back into my chest. I shared a look with Loveless. A silent command that it was time to leave, I had it from here. He nodded sharply, as he gestured to his team to gather their things. "They are leaving, baby girl", I whispered gently in her ear. I stroked her hair and back in
Jaxon's POVAmelia stared ahead, as the team gathered in her living room to read over the text that was sent. "Hey baby", I whispered, sitting next to her on the couch. When her eyes met mine, I was able to truly read her for the first time. 'Hold me'. She didn't have to utter a word. I pulled her into my chest, as I leaned back into the couch with her. I wrapped my arm around her head, giving her a safety blanket. "Well, the all bold and capital letters show how angry he is", Briggs said, breaking the silence. "His pet name for you is odd. I'm wondering why he chose that one and now", Loveless spoke. His entire message pissed me off. I want to rip the bastard's tongue out. "Then there's the part about 'rekindling that fire'. It means that he watched you enough to recongize the connection between the two of you", Budders added. "Not that it's that hard to see", Sharp chimed in. Amelia's door flew open, making every arm-bearer in the room pull their weapon, myself included. I was o
Jaxon's POVThe hours slipped away from me, as we built a profile, a trail, M.O. and thought patterns. Thanks to Amelia's detailed paintings, the BAU was able to figure out the style and brand clothes that the attacker was wearing. Information that came from Briggs. After getting to know the team better, I understand why Briggs is on this team so young. He's a genius. Only twenty years old. I looked at the time and realized she should be getting a text soon. "I'm going to head to Amelia's. Check in on her", I announced to no one in particular. "Sounds good", Loveless responded. Amelia's house was quiet apart from the low chatter coming from her living room. "How is she?", I asked, surprising the two agents. "She's good", Sharp snapped. My eyebrows creased with anger. "She's painting in her garage. She's hasn't come out too much. Every once in a while we will go peak in on her. She's acknowledged my presence each time I've looked in on her", Briggs explained. "Thank you", I nodded,
Jaxon's POVThe agents were walking into the kitchen with Amelia's paintings in hand. She grasped my hips tightly as she waited for them to speak. Loveless stepped forward, compassion written in his features. "Miss June, I would like to leave an agent with you for the time being. For your safety. If the unsub sticks to the schedule then you will be receiving a text and package soon. I prefer that you are not alone when it happens", he explained. "I'm going to leave SSA Sharp and Briggs with you. They can work from here. We will be in constant contact with them, so you will be kept in the loop", he added. My jaw clenched at the thought. Briggs is a good kid. But, Sharp seems like an asshole. If he says anything to rudely disturb Amelia's peace of mind, I'll have assault on a federal agent under my belt."That's fine", Amelia nodded simply. "We will set up in the living room", Briggs bowed slightly. "We will keep in touch Miss June", Loveless nodded, before turning and leaving the kit
Jaxon's POVOnce I got her to the kitchen, I picked her tiny form up and placed her on the countertop. "Are you ready to talk to me, little one?", I uttered, stroking her hair behind her ears. "Why have you been so distant from me?", I whispered, bracing for the worst. "I thought he would stop. I'm scared he will hurt you. And, then I wouldn't have you, so what would I do then?", she was breathless, fighting her tears, and attempting to reel her emotions in. I chuckled softly, as I lifted her chin to make her look at me. "I'm supposed to protect you, baby girl. Don't you know that?", I uttered, running my thumb over her bottom lip. "I would rather he hurt me, than you. I just want you to be safe. To feel safe in your home", I told her, drawing closer to her lips. "I don't want to see you hurt", she pouted. "It's a hazard of the job, little one", I grinned. I leaned so close that our breaths mingled together. "Tell me what changed your mind", I said, wanting her to open up further.
