LOGINAmelia's POV
It was okay. She didn't mean anything by it. She's just curious and has no filter. "No, Kat. Jeez, where do people come up with this shit?", I asked, no one in particular. "It's a small town. It's because of towns like ours that the game 'ear-whisper' exists", she laughed.
I shook my head and laughed at her joke. It is true though, and maybe that's why it's so funny.
Katy and I exited the front entrance of the college, arm in arm. I stopped in my tracks at the familiar feeling of uneasiness, of being watched. I whipped my head from side to side, as I tried to spot his face. The haunting grim that plagues my nightmares.
"Ame, are you okay?", Katy asked. "Oh, hey. What's the Chief doing here?", her question made me stop looking for THAT face and look into a vibrant green forest instead. A forest that steadily grew closer, bringing a sense of peace with it.
"I think he's coming to talk to you", Katy whispered, elbowing me. "What's wrong?", Jaxon's voice washed over me, soothing my panic. "I felt that same feeling again", I shivered, showcasing the goosebumps on my arms before looking around again.
Jaxon reached over and patted my arm in a comforting manor. "It's going to be okay", he uttered, scanning the area. "Are you here to arrest me?", I asked, needing to know. "What? That's crazy, Ames. Why would he arrest you?", Katy asked nervously.
"No. She doesn't want to press charges. And if she did, I would veto them anyway", he answered lowly, looking from my eyes to my lips and back to my eyes in a slow motion. "Where are you headed?", he asked, taking a step back. He shook his head as if he was trying to regain his composure. "We were actually headed to the police station", I answered, taking my bag off my shoulder.
"To turn yourself in?", he asked, surprised. "Ha, never", I teased, walking over to the stone wall and setting my bag on it. Jaxon and Katy followed me. "I didn't think so", the Chief toyed back. I know Katy is confused as she watches the interactions between us.
"Who's not pressing charges?", she couldn't hold it in any longer. "Kayla", I answered shortly. I pulled my sketch book out and flipped to my portrait.
"Oh my God, Amelia", Jaxon cooed. I felt his hand on the small of my back as he drew closer to look. "The fucking detail", he murmured, his forefinger skimming over the picture. "This is him?", he questioned gently. I nodded my head as I stared at the drawing before me.
"It looks like a picture, Ames", Katy whispered, peaking over my other shoulder. "I agree", Jaxon uttered. I sighed as I pushed the book into the Chief's hands. "It's a perfect, still image of a memory", I smiled grimly. "I'll have it digitally scanned and get you your book back", he assured me, as he continued to stare at the page.
"Since you aren't going to the station. Where are you headed?", he inquired, closing the sketch book. "Home, I have night shift tonight, since I'm also not going to jail", I told him with a smirk. "At the diner?", he quirked an eyebrow. "Yeah", I nodded with a chuckle.
"Come on. I'll take you both home", he said, turning to walk towards his SUV. "Oh, I'm actually going home with Ame", Katy chimed in. "Perfect. She doesn't need to be alone", Jaxon said, opening the back and passenger door.
"Ooh, protective and a gentleman", Katy winked. "Shut up", I sighed, with an eye roll. Jaxon smirked as he closed her door. "Buckle up", he uttered, before closing my door as well. "He didn't tell me to buckle up", Katy teased in a pout.
"Bit*, shut it", I snapped, giving her the 'shut the fuck up eyes'. She laughed histerically as Jaxon got into the vehicle. "What did I miss?", he grinned, looking back at her before meeting my gaze. "She didn't take her medicine today. It's fine", I brushed it off.
Katy's laughing got louder at my comment. She spewed and sputtered for a moment before taking a deep breath.
Amelia's POVJaxon looked through the peephole before sighing with relief. "It's one of my men", he assured me. He unlocked the door and opened it, keeping his weapon at his side. "Chief, got a minute?", the officer asked. Jaxon holstered his weapon and stepped aside to let him in. I walked back to the stove to give them some privacy. Though, I could still hear their entire conversation. "One of the neighbors reported a suspicious vehicle driving slowly up and down the road", the officer said. "Did they get a license plate number?", Jaxon asked. "No, but we got a description", the voices grew louder, as Jaxon led them into the kitchen. "Miss June", the officer greeted me. "Amelia, this is my Sergeant, Steven Hughes", Jaxon introduced. "Nice to meet you", I nodded, feeling like a fish out of water. "The decription", Jaxon prompted. "Oh, it's a red or maroon, four door SUV, maybe a Jeep", Sergeant Hughes answered. "See if anyone has any doorbell footage of it. It's a start", Jaxon del
Amelia's POV"Did you enjoy the show, princess?", he winked. Without thought, I drew my fist back and clocked him in the jaw. "Put your fucking shirt on, or you can fucking go home", I hissed, as he stumbled backwards and clutched his face. "You just going to let her do that, Chief?", he asked, looking up at Jaxon in disbelief. "I don't know what you are talking about", Jaxon's voice was void of emotion. I pushed past Nate, shouldering him out of the way. I went to the kitchen and started pulling a meat out to cook."Amelia", Jaxon said, walking up behind me. "I know. I need therapy", I said, placing a frying pan on the stove. "Actually, I was going to say that was a good jab. But your form needs some work", he voiced. I turned around, catching sight of his panty-melting smirk. "How?", I asked curiously. "Put 'em up", he instructed, holding his fist up. I did the same. "Swing", he commanded. "What?", I questioned, confused. "You heard me. Swing", he reiterated, raising his brows at
Amelia's POVJaxon scanned the parking lot one last time as he opened the passenger door for me. He shielded me as I got into the seat, and slyly locked the door as shut it. Safely in the vehicle I looked around to see if I could spot anything out of the oridinary. I was so focused on looking around that it scared me when Jaxon opened the driver's door. "Just me", he assured me. He locked the doors a second time, once he was settled. He placed his gun on his leg as he started the SUV and put it in gear. "Are you alright?", he asked. My anxiety was high, causing visible reactions out of me. "Yeah", I lied, not wanting to burden him farther. The man is already ensuring I make it to and from work safely. He's going above and beyond to guarentee my safety and make sure I feel safe. I kept my eyes out the window, but I could feel his gaze drifting back to me. Every time he would look over at me, my body would warm up. "I know this is stressful", he uttered soothingly. "But, it too shall
Amelia's POVI made my way to my tables to check on my guests. Mrs. Burch had me covered though. She kept my customers happy while I was pulled away. I walked back to the counter as Jaxon was coming out of the back. He gently touched my side as he stopped next to me. "I'll bring this back when I come to pick you up", he whispered, holding the phone in my view. "Okay", I nodded. The diner closed at 8, but I was scheduled till 9 so that I could help close the restaurant down. "Are you okay, dear?", Mrs. Burch asked, concernedly, as I washed dishes. "Yes ma'am. Just a little distracted", I mustered her a gentle smile. "That's understandable. But, don't let it make you forget to live the life you have been blessed with", she spoke with love and wisdom. "I'll try", I assured her. "You're ride is here", she smirked, nodding at the door. I looked behind me to see the Chief waving to be let in. I walked over to the door and unlocked it. "You're early", I greeted him. He looked at me confuse
Amelia's POVI was shaking as I stepped through the threshold. The dread almost unbearable. Jaxon closed the door behind him, and faced me. "Have you got any messages or calls today?", he asked. I crinkled my eyebrows in concentration as I patted myself down. "Honestly, I don't think I've looked at my phone all day", I answered, realizing that it wasn't in my pockets. I pulled my bag out of it's hiding spot and set it on the desk. I searched the bag, finding my phone in the bottom. I felt Jaxon's presence move closer, as I opened it up. I had two unread messages from an unknown number. My heart accerlared in fear. One message was a picture of Kayla's bloodied, mangled body. Written on her stomach in blood were the words 'ASK MY GIRL'. The second message read. 'I want to see you dance on her grave. No one gets to maim you, that's my job'.I pushed the phone into Jaxon's chest, as I grabbed the trash can to relieve my stomach of it's contents. He rubbed his hand soothingly on my back
Amelia's POV"I'm ready", I said, facing Jaxon. He nodded his head, still staring at me in a trance. I smiled as I took a step towards him. "Jaxon", I uttered softly. "Of course, yes", he said, shaking his head. "When did he get out?" I asked, as Jaxon opened my door. He shook his head with a grim expression. "I'm not sure. But I'll find out", he assured me. "Buckle up", he instructed, closing my door, and walking around the vehicle. "Amelia, a protective order is just a piece of paper", he sighed, putting his seat belt on. I didn't respond because I knew where this conversation was headed. "I don't know how long he will be in there this time. It's not up to me, it's up to a judge. If it was up to me, he would be in prison for life, for what he did to you", he said, peering over at me. My anxiety spiked and I started bouncing my leg. An action that didn't go unnoticed by Jaxon for a second. "Amelia", his voice softened. "I hear you, okay. I don't know what you want me to do", I sna
