Amelia's POV

"My apologies, Miss Amelia. Please continue", he said, gesturing his hand for me to continue. "Just Amelia", I corrected him. The 'Miss' shit was getting to me. "Amelia, please continue. You were thinking about the women", he said, corssing his arms over his chest, as he leaned back in his chair.

"At some point, my inner voice said to call for help. Which I did, discreetly", I explained. He looked at me curiously, wanting me to elaborate. "I did not want him to catch on to what I was doing. I suppose I wasn't too great at succeding with it, because after I told dispatch where I was, I heard him charge me", I said, turning around at Cynthia's request.

A low growling rumble filled the room, followed by the Chief clearing his throat. "By the time I turned around he was already on top of me. There was a struggle. I was trying to get him off of me. Then he punched me, hell of a left hook. It really rattled my shit", I told him.

"You can turn back around now", Cynthia informed me. The Chief held up the shirt he grabbed from the back of his SUV. "You can put this on now. She's done with chest and back pictures", he uttered gently. He took his seat, once I had hold of the shirt.

I slipped on the gray undershirt, immediately being engulfed in his sent. My muscles relaxed and my stomach settled. "Better?", he asked tenderly. I nodded in response. "Immensely. Thank you", I whispered. "You're welcome, Amelia", he smiled softly, churning butterflies in my stomach.

I cleared my throat to continue on.

"After he hit me, he started tearing at my shirt. That's when we heard the sirens and it spooked him off", I explained. "Do you remember him saying anything to you?", he questioned. I took a moment to think about it, while I zoned into Cynthia scraping under my fingernails.

"You're perfect. You're a fighter", I quoted. "You fucking bitch, I'll find you again", I recited the memory of him. "I'll have a unit posted outside your house", he assured me. "I don't know if I want that. If he doesn't know where I live. He will after that", I conteplated.

"I think I have all the evidence I need, Chief", Cynthia said, packing her case back up. "Thank you", he nodded, not taking his eyes off me. "Or, and now hear me out, because this is the more likely case. He already knows where you live", he uttered, concernedly.

"Did you did a good look at his face?", he asked. I shrugged uncertainly. "Kind of. I would need some time to recover it", I said, crinkling my nose, as my mind swirled away. "That's alright. If he was in a line-up. Could you point him out with certainty?", he inquired. "Yes sir", I answered confidently.

He nodded his head. "Can you think of anything else?", he asked. "No", I answered. "Come on. I'll take you home", he said, standing from the chair. "You don't have to do that", I protested, slightly panicked. "Yes I do. You were just attacked and don't have a vehicle. I need to make sure you get home safely. You are still a target of his", he frowned, as he waited for me to follow suit.

I didn't have the energy to argue with him. All I wanted was to go home, shower and go to bed. I followed the Chief from the precint to his SUV. He opened the passenger door and held his hand out for me to use as leverage.

I accepted his gracious gesture and placed my hand in his as I struggled to stand on the runner board. My body slowly showing signs of the events. I finally slipped into the seat with a sigh. "Buckle up", he uttered, closing the door.

I leaned my head against the window, feeling the exhausation take hold of me. I saw a hand reach across my chest making me jump. "Easy. You need a seat belt", the Chief said calmly, as he continued to reach his hand across me to grab the buckle and pull it across my chest.

I relaxed and proceeded to lean my head on the window. My eyes feeling heavy. "Don't fall asleep, Amelia. Since you refused to go to the hospital, you need to extra cautious of a concussion", he informed me. "You know, recent studies show that the brain only heals if you are sleeping", I countered, rolling my head on the headrest to look at him.

"Only if you have someone to wake you up every hour", he growled, peering over at me. His eyes quickly scanned my body, before they snapped back to the road. "So how long am I supposed to wait?", I asked. "Two hours, at least", he answered, meeting my gaze. "Well you had me tied up for an hour and a half. So, I can go home and shower, then go to bed", I responded groggily.

  • The Only Survivor   Chapter 19: Please shut up and kiss me again

Amelia's POVJaxon looked through the peephole before sighing with relief. "It's one of my men", he assured me. He unlocked the door and opened it, keeping his weapon at his side. "Chief, got a minute?", the officer asked. Jaxon holstered his weapon and stepped aside to let him in. I walked back to the stove to give them some privacy. Though, I could still hear their entire conversation. "One of the neighbors reported a suspicious vehicle driving slowly up and down the road", the officer said. "Did they get a license plate number?", Jaxon asked. "No, but we got a description", the voices grew louder, as Jaxon led them into the kitchen. "Miss June", the officer greeted me. "Amelia, this is my Sergeant, Steven Hughes", Jaxon introduced. "Nice to meet you", I nodded, feeling like a fish out of water. "The decription", Jaxon prompted. "Oh, it's a red or maroon, four door SUV, maybe a Jeep", Sergeant Hughes answered. "See if anyone has any doorbell footage of it. It's a start", Jaxon del

  • The Only Survivor   Chapter 18: Expecting anyone?

Amelia's POV"Did you enjoy the show, princess?", he winked. Without thought, I drew my fist back and clocked him in the jaw. "Put your fucking shirt on, or you can fucking go home", I hissed, as he stumbled backwards and clutched his face. "You just going to let her do that, Chief?", he asked, looking up at Jaxon in disbelief. "I don't know what you are talking about", Jaxon's voice was void of emotion. I pushed past Nate, shouldering him out of the way. I went to the kitchen and started pulling a meat out to cook."Amelia", Jaxon said, walking up behind me. "I know. I need therapy", I said, placing a frying pan on the stove. "Actually, I was going to say that was a good jab. But your form needs some work", he voiced. I turned around, catching sight of his panty-melting smirk. "How?", I asked curiously. "Put 'em up", he instructed, holding his fist up. I did the same. "Swing", he commanded. "What?", I questioned, confused. "You heard me. Swing", he reiterated, raising his brows at

  • The Only Survivor   Chapter 17: I'm down to eat

Amelia's POVJaxon scanned the parking lot one last time as he opened the passenger door for me. He shielded me as I got into the seat, and slyly locked the door as shut it. Safely in the vehicle I looked around to see if I could spot anything out of the oridinary. I was so focused on looking around that it scared me when Jaxon opened the driver's door. "Just me", he assured me. He locked the doors a second time, once he was settled. He placed his gun on his leg as he started the SUV and put it in gear. "Are you alright?", he asked. My anxiety was high, causing visible reactions out of me. "Yeah", I lied, not wanting to burden him farther. The man is already ensuring I make it to and from work safely. He's going above and beyond to guarentee my safety and make sure I feel safe. I kept my eyes out the window, but I could feel his gaze drifting back to me. Every time he would look over at me, my body would warm up. "I know this is stressful", he uttered soothingly. "But, it too shall

  • The Only Survivor   Chapter 16: I think he's near

Amelia's POVI made my way to my tables to check on my guests. Mrs. Burch had me covered though. She kept my customers happy while I was pulled away. I walked back to the counter as Jaxon was coming out of the back. He gently touched my side as he stopped next to me. "I'll bring this back when I come to pick you up", he whispered, holding the phone in my view. "Okay", I nodded. The diner closed at 8, but I was scheduled till 9 so that I could help close the restaurant down. "Are you okay, dear?", Mrs. Burch asked, concernedly, as I washed dishes. "Yes ma'am. Just a little distracted", I mustered her a gentle smile. "That's understandable. But, don't let it make you forget to live the life you have been blessed with", she spoke with love and wisdom. "I'll try", I assured her. "You're ride is here", she smirked, nodding at the door. I looked behind me to see the Chief waving to be let in. I walked over to the door and unlocked it. "You're early", I greeted him. He looked at me confuse

  • The Only Survivor   Chapter 15: Keep your head up, little one.

Amelia's POVI was shaking as I stepped through the threshold. The dread almost unbearable. Jaxon closed the door behind him, and faced me. "Have you got any messages or calls today?", he asked. I crinkled my eyebrows in concentration as I patted myself down. "Honestly, I don't think I've looked at my phone all day", I answered, realizing that it wasn't in my pockets. I pulled my bag out of it's hiding spot and set it on the desk. I searched the bag, finding my phone in the bottom. I felt Jaxon's presence move closer, as I opened it up. I had two unread messages from an unknown number. My heart accerlared in fear. One message was a picture of Kayla's bloodied, mangled body. Written on her stomach in blood were the words 'ASK MY GIRL'. The second message read. 'I want to see you dance on her grave. No one gets to maim you, that's my job'.I pushed the phone into Jaxon's chest, as I grabbed the trash can to relieve my stomach of it's contents. He rubbed his hand soothingly on my back

  • The Only Survivor   Chapter 14: What did I do?

Amelia's POV"I'm ready", I said, facing Jaxon. He nodded his head, still staring at me in a trance. I smiled as I took a step towards him. "Jaxon", I uttered softly. "Of course, yes", he said, shaking his head. "When did he get out?" I asked, as Jaxon opened my door. He shook his head with a grim expression. "I'm not sure. But I'll find out", he assured me. "Buckle up", he instructed, closing my door, and walking around the vehicle. "Amelia, a protective order is just a piece of paper", he sighed, putting his seat belt on. I didn't respond because I knew where this conversation was headed. "I don't know how long he will be in there this time. It's not up to me, it's up to a judge. If it was up to me, he would be in prison for life, for what he did to you", he said, peering over at me. My anxiety spiked and I started bouncing my leg. An action that didn't go unnoticed by Jaxon for a second. "Amelia", his voice softened. "I hear you, okay. I don't know what you want me to do", I sna
