FAZER LOGINChapter Five
The heavy iron door slammed shut, leaving me trapped in absolute silence.
I lay frozen on the cold stone floor, listening to Evanderās heavy footsteps fade down the corridor. My body throbbed with a dull, relentless ache. Every breath felt heavy, tasting of dust and cold iron, but the mental exhaustion weighed far more than the physical pain.
I slowly pulled my knees against my chest, wrapping my reddish Fox tail tightly around my legs to trap whatever little body heat I had left.
How has my life turned into this nightmare? Only a week ago, I was a prince of the Averon Kingdom, holding onto the foolish hope that my father would eventually see through my stepbrothers' lies. Now, I was a chained slave in a foreign territory, bought like livestock and shoved into a dark cellar by a ruthless beast.
Escape seemed impossible. The fortress was built into solid cliffside rock, crawling with heavily armed panther guards, and my own body was battered and broken. But as I stared into the pitch-black room, a cold, sharp resolve settled deep inside my chest. I refused to die in this place. I refused to let Dominic, Silas, or Evander completely erase my existence. I just needed to survive long enough to find a single crack in their defenses.
Hours dragged on like eternity. Sleep never came.
Early the next morning, the heavy iron latch slid open with a harsh, metallic screech. Before I could even sit up, a bucket of freezing water slammed directly into my face and chest.
I gasped for air, sputtering and coughing as the icy liquid soaked through my clothes and skin.
āGet up, stray,ā a smooth, poisonous voice commanded.
I rubbed the stinging water from my eyes to see Julian standing over me, holding an empty wooden bucket. His dark, handsome face was twisted into a look of absolute disgust, his sleek black ears perked forward in satisfaction.
āEvander may have bought you, but nobody eats in this estate without earning their keep,ā
Julian sneered, kicking my thigh with his polished leather boot. āGet up and start cleaning the main hall. The floors need scrubbing.ā
I pushed myself up onto my knees, my teeth chattering uncontrollably from the freezing water. I held up my swollen, bandaged left hand.
The linen wrapping was filthy, soaked through with stagnant water and dark blood. The fingers were twisted at unnatural angles, and clear, foul fluid had begun to seep through the cloth, dripping continuously onto the stone floor.
āI cannot scrub floors,ā I rasped, my voice dry and cracked. āMy hand is infected. I cannot move my fingers.ā
Julianās eyes flashed with annoyance. āDo not make excuses. You have two hands, do you not? Use the other one.ā
āI said no,ā I snapped, glaring up at him with every bit of defiance I could muster. āI will not ruin my hand completely for your amusement.ā
Julian raised his hand, his sharp claws extending, ready to strike my face once again.
āWhat is going on here?ā
Evanderās deep, booming voice echoed from the doorway, instantly cutting through the tension.
He stepped into the room, his broad shoulders easily blocking out the morning light from the hallway. Beside him stood an elderly female shifter carrying a wooden medicine satchel.
Julian lowered his hand instantly, his cruel expression melting into a soft, concerned smile as he turned to face his mate.
āDarling, I was just trying to give him some light chores,ā Julian said smoothly, stepping close to Evander and wrapping a possessive arm around his waist. āI told him he needs to help around the house if he expects to be fed. But he refuses to work. He is just pretending to be hurt to get out of doing anything. If he cannot be useful in this estate, he should starve.ā
Evander did not look at Julian. His glowing golden eyes locked directly onto my hand, watching the foul liquid drip slowly from the filthy bandages onto the floor.
āCheck his hand,ā Evander ordered the healer, his gravelly voice flat and unreadable.
The elderly female stepped forward, crouching down beside me. She gently unwrapped the blood-soaked linen, exposing my black and blue fingers, swollen to twice their normal size. She pressed down lightly on the palm, making a sharp spike of agony shoot straight up my arm. I bit my lip hard, tasting iron to keep from crying out.
āThe bones are fractured, and the wound is deeply infected,ā the healer said, looking up at Evander. āIf it is not cleaned, set, and wrapped properly right now, he will lose the entire hand within days.ā
Julian let out a soft, dismissive hum. āIt is just a Fox hand, Evander. It hardly matters.ā
āFix it,ā Evander commanded bluntly, ignoring Julianās comment entirely.
For the next twenty minutes, the healer cleaned the infection, forced the broken bones back into place, and slathered a soothing green herbal paste over my skin before binding it tightly with clean white linen. The pain was excruciating, leaving me panting and sweating on the floor, but the throbbing ache finally softened into a manageable burn.
Once the healer packed her satchel and left, Evander looked down at me with cold, unfeeling eyes.
āYou heard my mate,ā Evander said, his voice laced with absolute dominance. āYou do not sit idle in my home. Find work that does not require your left hand. Clear the tables, carry the light linens, or wipe the dust. If you refuse, then there's no food for you.ā
Without waiting for my answer, Evander turned and walked out, Julian clinging closely to his arm while casting a smug, victorious glare over his shoulder at me. I wanted to scream at them to let me go. But that would cause me more trouble.
All through that day, I worked.
My body was weak, my stomach clawing at itself with a deep, familiar hunger. I was used to starvingāmy father had locked me away without food for days back in Averonābut carrying heavy wooden trays and wiping down long oak tables with only my right hand exhausted what little strength I had left. Every time I passed the estate kitchens, the rich scent of roasting meat and fresh bread filled the air, making my mouth water painfully.
Whenever I asked the kitchen staff for a small piece of bread or a cup of water, they simply turned their backs on me, following Julianās strict orders.
By nightfall, the entire estate grew quiet. My legs were shaking so badly I could barely walk back to my subterranean room. I collapsed onto the edge of the low bed, clutching my throbbing, freshly bandaged hand against my chest, my stomach burning with empty agony.
I closed my eyes, trying to sleep through the hunger, when a faint, strange sound caught my attention.
It was not a lock turning, nor was it the heavy footsteps of guards.
It was a low, rhythmic tapping coming from the small, high stone vent near the top of my wall.
I sat up slowly, my Fox ears perking high as I stared at the dark opening.
I waited for the person to push my door open but after a while the footsteps retreated.
Chaoter EightI woke up when heavy iron chains rattled violently against the floorboards. My head was pounding with a deep, sickening ache from the Dragon Kingās slap, and the bitter taste of dried blood coated my lips. I forced my heavy eyes open to see the carriage doors thrown wide. Cold, thin mountain air rushed into my lungs as two heavily armored guards grabbed my chains and dragged me out into the freezing night. My feet dragged uselessly against the frozen cobblestones as I looked up. We were inside a massive fortress built directly into snow-capped peaks. The towering walls were made of black stone, illuminated by burning green torches that flickered against the dark sky. The air smelled of ash, iron, and a heavy predator scent that made my Fox instincts scream in terror. The guards hauled me through massive metal gates, up winding stone stairs, and threw me onto the hard floor of a grand hall. My weak legs collapsed beneath me, the heavy iron collar around my neck digging pa
Chapter SevenThe carriage bounced violently over the rough mountain road, throwing my limp body against the wooden walls with every turn. The heavy black cloak trapped the heat around my face, making it hard to breathe through the thick fog of Julian's poison. My arms were bound tightly with cold iron chains behind my back. Every time the carriage hit a dip, a sharp spike of pain shot straight through my broken left hand. I lay on the dirty floorboards, completely helpless, listening to the heavy pounding of horse hooves outside.I have been sold again. Is this how my name will end an heir, has now been used by those who don't even deserve my look. Julian had poisoned me and handed me over to someone even worse. The Dragon King.Tales of the Dragon Kingdom, had reached the Averon palace when I was just a child. They were brutal, merciless monsters who ruled the northern peaks. If Evander was a terrifying beast, the Dragon King was a nightmare. After what felt like hours, the carriage
Chapter SixThe footsteps faded away, leaving me in total silence.I scrambled off the small bed, my heart hammering against my ribs. I stood on my tiptoes to look through the high vent, but there was nothing there. Just darkness and a faint metallic smell in the air.I couldn't sleep all night. I just lay there in the dark, holding my bandaged hand to my chest as my stomach hurt from hunger.Early the next morning, a guard unlocked the door. He threw a plain tunic on the floor and told me to get up.I worked all through the morning. My body was completely weak, and my left hand was useless under its tight bandages. I wiped tables, swept the long halls, and carried wooden trays with my right arm. My head felt light from starving, but I had to keep my mouth shut and do my work.Around noon, just as I finished sweeping the last corridor, a guard stepped up to me."Master Julian wants to see you in the main salon," he said. "Right now."My chest tightened, my heart beating so fast becaus

Chapter FourJulian did not waste a single second asserting his control. The moment the dining hall doors closed behind the guards, he stepped toward me, his dark eyes fixed on my broken, filthy state with pure malice.āDo you know what a toy is, Fox?ā Julian asked, his voice smooth as silk but sharp as glass. He paced around me like a predator inspecting damaged meat. āA toy has no voice. A toy does not eat at the masterās table, nor does it sit when it is tired. A toy exists solely to be used, degraded, and broken whenever its owner seeks amusement.āMy blood ran cold, but the bitter rage inside me flared up again. I held my ground, clutching my bad wrist to my chest. āI am not anyone's toy. I am a prince from the Averon kingdom.āJulian stopped dead in his tracks. A cold, dark chuckle escaped his lips before his hand shot out like a strike of lightning. The force of his strike sent me sprawling onto the stone floor, my bad hand slamming against the ground with a sickening thud. Chapter ThreeThe heavy iron key turned in the lock with a harsh, metallic screech.I scrambled backward on the stone floor, my back hitting the cold wall as the door swung open. The massive man stepped into the room, his broad shoulders easily blocking out the torchlight from the hallway. He looked down at me, his glowing golden eyes narrowing as he took in my trembling form.āGet up,ā he commanded, his gravelly voice echoing off the stone walls.I clutched my broken hand against my chest, my reddish Fox tail pinned tight against my leg. My heart hammered against my ribs, but the bitter, helpless rage that had been building inside me for days finally boiled over. I was tired of being dragged around like a dead carcass. I was tired of being quiet.āNo,ā I rasped, my dry throat burning as I forced the word out.The man paused, one dark eyebrow arching in slight surprise. He took a slow, heavy step into the room, his suffocating predator aura surging forward like a physical wall.āWhat
