FRANCO POV

It had been past twenty-four hours we’d been at the Cave of Death—well, not technically the cave itself, but in the area. Fara, I, and five other guards she had handpicked were camped beneath a Damocles Tree, also known as the Midnight Horror Tree here in Astria.

The place was unsettling, eerie in a way I couldn’t shake. It felt alive, like something ominous was breathing beneath the earth, waiting to crawl free.

I inhaled slowly and whispered my thoughts just loud enough for Fara to hear.

“Never knew a place like this existed in Astria. It’s never been mentioned in any geology or history records.”

Fara chuckled softly.

“It wouldn’t. Only creatures like us, with deep ancestral ties to this land, would know.”

I glanced at her, hungry for more, and she indulged me.

“Just like this cave and the Cave of the Forgotten, where Nadia truly lies bound, there is also the Cave of Memories.”

I nodded, my curiosity piqued.

“So what makes these caves different from eac

  • The President's Mate   Chapter 135 Bloody Hell

Devon POVFive of them. They moved with intention, spreading out in a loose circle, cutting off escape routes with practised ease. Not rushing. Not lunging. Watching. Enjoying the way humans screamed and stumbled, the way fear rolled off them in hot, frantic waves.Predators savouring the moment before the kill. And then it hit me again. The smell.Sharper now. Wrong in a way my wolf recoiled from instantly. Chemical rot beneath wet fur. Blood that didn’t belong to the bodies carrying it. Power stitched together where nature should have drawn the line. These weren’t werewolves. They were wolves, yes, but altered. Twisted. Forbidden things wear familiar shapes. My mind snapped back to that night—the rescue of Jimmie, the monsters we fought then. The way their bones bent unnaturally. The way their eyes were empty of pack, of soul.Sledge creations. My stomach dropped.Of course. This wasn’t a coincidence. This was theatre.Humans wouldn’t know the difference. To them, a wolf was a wolf.

Devon POVEleanor smiled, slow and deliberate, and said there would be no need for that. The words were soft, almost courteous, but they landed like a warning bell in my chest. Before Jim could press further, Amira appeared at Eleanor’s side, her voice low and professional.“Eleanor, it’s time for your speech.”I watched my wife turn toward the podium, watched the way she gathered herself with that familiar, lethal grace. To the world, she looked every inch the grieving daughter—poised, elegant, carved from restraint and dignity. But as I sat beside my children, something in the air around her felt… wrong. Off. As if the woman I had known had been buried alongside Lucan Rhys, and what walked toward that stage now was something sharpened by intent.A stranger wearing Eleanor’s face. She stepped up to the podium, the murmurs dying instantly. The crowd leaned in—not out of respect alone, but hunger. This wasn’t just a memorial. This was a reckoning disguised as grief.“Ladies and gentle

  • The President's Mate   Chapter 133 A President on Trial

DEVON POVIt had been a week.A single week that felt stretched thin, pulled apart by blood and noise and too many truths clawing their way to the surface. A week since Lucan Rhys died. A week since the world I knew began to rot from the inside out.I had left police custody seven days earlier, yet freedom had never felt so performative. Every step I took was watched. Every breath measured. I knew they were waiting for me to slip, for the smallest fracture they could turn into a blade and drive straight through my skull. They wanted me broken publicly. They wanted my fall to be spectacular.Astria wanted my head. The calls for impeachment had grown louder with each sunrise. Some said I was unworthy of the office I held. Others didn’t bother with civility at all. They called me a monster. A beast hiding behind human skin. A devil dressed in a tailored suit. The tabloids feasted on it, twisting half-truths into grotesque myths, fanning fear with deliberate precision. The secret was no l

  • The President's Mate   Chapter 132  The Cost of Survival

NADIA POVI held the phone tightly at my side, my fingers wrapped around it as though letting go would somehow unravel everything I’d worked so hard to build. My gaze stayed fixed beyond the glass walls of my penthouse, on the city stretched beneath me in quiet ignorance. From up here, Astria looked harmless. Beautiful, even.A lie. This place was my fortress. A carefully secured stronghold of secrets and survival, hidden in plain sight beneath the noses of the very people who would gladly tear me apart if they knew I was still breathing. To Devon and the rest of them, I was still rotting away in the Cave of the Forgotten. That place. That bitch. That stupid, self-righteous bitch. My fist clenched until the phone creaked softly in my grip, the sound sharp and brittle. I didn’t look down. I couldn’t. My eyes remained fixed on the window, my reflection staring back at me, because the memories were already clawing their way to the surface.Fara’s hands are gripping my arms. The cold ston

  • The President's Mate   Chapter 131 Vows in Cold Light

ELEANOR’S POVThey killed him. They fucking killed him.I stood there in the morgue, the smell of antiseptic and cold steel clawing at my throat as I stared at what was left of Lucan Rhys — my father. His body lay covered on the metal table, headless, mutilated, looking nothing like the great man I once knew him to be. His skin was pale, lifeless… alien. I wanted to look away, but I couldn’t. Every part of me wanted to scream, to vomit, to run and yet my feet refused to move.A thousand emotions tore through me at once — rage, sorrow, fear, bitterness, emptiness, but most of all, vengeance.Amira’s call still echoed in my ears, her frantic voice trembling as she broke the news. I could still hear it, even now — like a knife carving through my chest.Earlier, I’d been in the car, my pulse still pounding from the chaos at the city square. Everything had spiralled out of control so fast. I kept replaying the scene in my mind — the shouting, the fear, the people scattering and that woman…

  • The President's Mate   Chapter 130 The President’s Secret

Devon POVThe hum of the fluorescent lights above me was steady… too steady. It drilled into my head with every second that passed. The room was cold- not the kind of cold that bit at your skin, but the one that seeped into your bones and made you aware of your every thought, every breath.A large pane of glass stretched across the far end of the wall, black and glossy. I didn’t need to see through it to know what was behind — eyes. Watching. Measuring. Waiting. They were being polite, for now. Respectful, even. After all, I was still the President of Astria, the face of the nation. But under the calm veneer, I could smell their suspicion. Feel it in the air like static before a storm.I wasn’t afraid. But I was tired, and gods, my mind wouldn’t stop spinning.Where was Franco?Did he get to the kids in time? Was Eleanor safe? Did she know yet — about her father’s death? And Jimmie…I clenched my fists on the table, trying to quiet that ache in my chest. His name alone stirred too muc
