Chapter 4: Placement

Claire's POV:

Looking at the door my breath gets caught in my throat "well hello Claire" the man says.

He walks closer causing me to shuffle back a little "leave her be, Elias" Charles said looking at the man that found me in the woods, the one that controlled me.

"Well I haven't done anything yet, Im just simply walking into the room" he stated with a smirk a purple swirl going through his eyes when he looked over at me.

I take a small gulp as my breathing intensifies "no need to fear much, unless of course you step out of line" he stated.

Charles rolls his eye's "what are you doing here Elias?" he asked.

"Checking on the new student of course, Mikael told me she was up" he replied cockily.

"Anyway continue on with your conversation" he said walking over to a chair, sitting down and crossing his arms.

Charles looks at me "so, what were you asking" he questioned.

"Oh, um I was wondering what an elder was" I stated and Charles nods his head.

"The elders are a group of some of the oldest people alive or the first of our species, they make most of the decisions for the school like us coming to get you" he stated and I nodded my head in understanding.

"Sometimes they're wrong" Elias stated looking at me.

"Elias" Charles said in a warning tone towards the man.

"You cant tell me any differently Charles" Elias stated before looking back at me "they had us take a girl that knows nothing and is nothing more than a mere human, if anything she's better off dead" he stated venom lacing his tone.

"That's enough" Charles' voice boomed throughout the room while he stood up from his chair next to my bed.

Elias stood up as well, but due to Charles' tall stature Elias looked like a child in comparison "leave" Charles growled lowly.

"Who are you to tell me what to do Charles?" Elias stated looking at the man with a heated glare.

Elizabeth cleared her throat causing both the men to look at her, her body moves as if to shrink herself from their glares.

"What" she started to talk her voice quivering "what are we supposed to do with the girl?" she asked which peaked my curiosity as well.

"I'll bring her to a room" Charles stated causing Elias to glare at him.

"You will do no such thing" he stated.

"And why is that Elias" Charles stated his glare directing back at the shorter male.

"Because she doesn't belong here" Elias stated pointing at me angrily "she doesn't have a section, she is nothing, the elders made a mistake" he spit out causing my body to flinch backwards at it's intensity.

"She is something Elias" Charles stated.

"Elias does have a point" Elizabeth stated from the foot of my bed staring at me "we have no idea what she is" she continued to get her point across.

Her eye's softening while she smiles at me.

Charles takes a deep breath looking at me for a moment before looking at the ceiling in thought.

"Then her room wont be in a section" he stated shrugging his shoulders.

"What?!" Elias exclaimed loudly "what the fuck do you mean, she has to be put in a section if we have to keep her here" he stated.

"No, Ill give her a separate room from the others" Charles said nodding his head before he made eye contact with me, the stern look in his eyes softening.

"That is until she finds out her ability" he continued "unless" he said dragging out the word.

"She chooses to stay on her own" at his words my eyes light up.

"You dont get to choose" Elias said causing Charles to look back at him and let out a laugh.

"And you should get to" he asked him incredulous "you wont place a hand on her Elias" Charles said sternly causing the man to take deep breath and shake his head before leaving the room in a hurry slamming the door behind him on the way causing me to flinch.

"I'll bring you to a room" Charles stated with a soft smile while he looked at me

I let out a sigh feeling as if I could finally breath again after the man left.

"I'll get you some clothes" Elizabeth said smiling over at me as well.

"Thank you" I whispered "both of you" I stated a bit louder while looking between the two of them.

"Come, I have just the room in mind for you" Charles stated holding out his hand just like how he did before.

A little less hesitant this time I place my hand in his while standing up trying not to put to much pressure on my foot but I realize there's no pain causing me to furrow my eyebrows.

"I healed you" Elizabeth stated "it shouldn't hurt anymore" she continued.

"Well I best be off" she stated pointing towards the door before exiting.

"Lets go" Charles stated pulling me a little towards the door and out into a hallway.

Walking through I look around marvelling at the older architecture.

"Were almost there" Charles stated and I nod my head in reply while I continue to look around.

"This is it" Charles stated as we stopped infront of a door, he reaches out placing his hand on the doorknob and turning it.

Letting go of his hand, I glance into the room.

Walking in I gasp not only at the size of it but by the decor.

It was an open floor plan dark wood laced the floor, the walls were almost a grey shade, a little latter led up to a bed up top on another floor.

The bed had a tall frame with intricate design's in a mat black looking color almost like a burnt trees that fanned out at the top like twigs.

The bedding was black, grey, and green with a little side table next to it.

Looking back down to the area around me I see bookshelves lining one wall, empty for the moment, a desk placed in between two windows with some notebooks on it.

A little seat built into the window on the left under the overhang away from the bookshelves.

The open area next to it has an open like floor that is covered in pillows, blankets and twinkle lights hanging from it with room for pictures causing me to giggle.

There were two extra doors one next to the bookshelves and one close to the fort. Charles clearly caught my line of sight because he points toward the one near the bookshelves "that's the closet" he stated before point to the other door "and that's the bathroom" he finished before looking at me and taking a deep breath.

"Do you like it?" he asked causing me to look over at him.

"Do I like it?" I questioned him back before letting out a laugh "its absolutely incredible" I said looking around again.

"Good, because its yours" he stated smiling a little bit.

"Thank you" I said smiling widely "but, why are you being so nice to me?" I questioned him.

"Because you need to know at least one person will have your back, and don't listen to Elias" he added at the end.

"He doesn't know what he's talking about" he stated and I nodded my head in reply.

"Are my parents okay?" I whispered out worry lacing my tone.

"There alright" he whispered back.

Elizabeth suddenly comes up behind Charles "I have all your stuff, and then some" she said smiling while bringing a bunch of bags into my room.

"I'll help you set up tomorrow if you'd like" she said with an angel like smile gracing her features.

"Thank you, I'd appreciate it" I replied with a smile of my own.

"Ill come back tomorrow afternoon to talk to you about your schedule" Charles said before turning to leave "have a good night" he called out looking back over his shoulder for a moment.

"You too" I called back to his retreating figure.

"This has most of your clothes and this holds bathroom supplies" Elizabeth said pointing at two of the bags she brought in.

"Thank you again" I said.

"It's my pleasure" she stated "goodnight" she said leaving the room and closing the door behind her.

As soon as I heard her footsteps get quieter I dropped down to my knees with tears welling up in my eye's.

And that's where I spent my night.

Balling my eye's out on the cold wood floor until I couldn't breath.

In a room I'm now supposed to call my own, but hurts more than anything else.

'What the hell am I going to do?' I thought to myself wishing my mother was here holding me in her arms, but at least I know she's alive.

For now.
