PROPERTY OF THE ALPHA PRINCE

CHAPTER 4: MYSTERIES

Well, sir. I found out during the search, that it was a mad woman, who was busy laughing to herself, and cackling to herself too. I mean, it was very weird, you have to see this from yourself. Her gaze looked focused, in front, just staring at nothing in particular. She laughed and cackles…really laughed and cackled as if she was watching someone do something stupid. It is not normal. And also, the people, her fellow citizens, are also clearing the space for her to do whatever, she wants, as long as they don’t care whatever another person is going to see.

So why didn’t you put her down, the rule, was no one should be talking or else, they will be beheaded. So why didn’t you do it? Huh.

Sir, with all respect, I tried to bring out my sword, to kill her, but it seemed that my hands were not working again, like I have been paralyzed everywhere. I could only move my head, so I had to jerk at her partner, who replied, that she was crazy.

Honestly, I was relieved, when I forgot out, that my body stopped being paralyzed, when I was leaving. It took me, all, my strength not to run off, like someone who had messed with the lion’s pets.

I see, I guess we have to put her under observation, when we get there. Maybe you are just scared of killing a mad woman, so that is why you are saying such things. Oh well, tell her fellow slave beside her, to control her friend, unless she wants to be the escape goat. The general said as the solider nodded his head, and went back to where the slaves were, and pulled Dandara by her chains making her to fall at his feet. The solider pulled her up, by her hair, and said in a dangerous tone.

Watch your partner or you will be on the end of the receiving sword, and you wouldn’t like that, would you. he said as Dandara shook her head, his grip was tight and it was scalding her, as it seemed like all her hair were being dragged by a bull.

But she couldn’t put out of the grip, no matter how badly, she wanted to. It wasn’t possible. She knew that she had to swallow, the pain, and keep it down.

The solider gripped her hair tightly for a few more seconds, before dropping her as she collapsed on the ground, hitting her chest on the floor, with a big thud, taking all the breath out of her.

It was getting harder to breathe, with each passing moment, but she could manage. Gasping for air, Ashton bent down and helped her up, as the soldiers ordered the rest of the slaves to be moving.

Manda shook her head, from where she was, she knew that eccentric old woman was going to put Dandara into problem, but her hands were tied. She couldn’t help her friend, so she just watched as Ashton struggled to carry her up, as the order went for all of them to be moving forward. Sighing, she took a step forwards, and like that, everyone started moving trudging underneath the hot sun.

Ashton held tightly to Dandara, for an old woman, she had the strength of fifty lions, and twenty men. Dandara tried not to drop all her weight on her, but found it was futile, as Ashton basically carried her, although she limped.

Being with me, will get you killed, why don’t you do like the rest are doing, and stay far away from, me. The soldiers are scared to touch me, but they wouldn’t bat an eyelid, hurting you. Ashton whispered as Dandara struggled to open her eyes.

Well, I guess it is better they beat me then, huh. Besides I can’t let them hurt you. it is not happening on my watch. You are special. And I know it. Dandara said, as Ashton looked at her surprised.

Can you see it too? You can’t possibly be seeing it, can you? Ashton said as she stopped, facing Dandara, who was confused, at the moment.

I can’t possibly see what? What the hell are you talking about? Dandara whispered as Ashton shook her head in disappointment.

Never mind, I thought that you could see it, well, don’t bother about it anymore. I guess I got carried away. But I promise you this, your sufferings are coming to an end, very soon, just wait and see. This will be a thing of the past. For you, me and everyone. Ashton whispered as Dandara’s eyelids drooped low, as if she was becoming sleepy. And her breathing hitched, making it impossible for her to take in oxygen. She was slowly dying, Ashton knew it, so did Dandara. Dandara was a nurse, before the slavery, so she knew when someone was close to her deathbed, and she knew that she was close to hers, but she couldn’t do anything. Her hands were tied, besides the soldiers wouldn’t care about her. It was better off, if she died.

Ashton tightened her grip, on Dandara, as she could feel her slow heartbeat. This was paining her, she needed to do something, she couldn’t let her die like this. No matter what, she just had to survive, didn’t she promise that everything would be better for her? Was it all a lie?

Dandara was groaning softly, as she struggled between life and death. Ashton stopped as she dropped her down on the ground, before laying her down, facing the sky. The other slaves kept on trekking forward, covering them so the soldiers wouldn’t have to notice anything wrong. Manda saw what was happening and saw that Dandara was having difficulty breathing and wanted to rush to her, where Ashton was, but an old man gripped her hand, shook his head saying,

No, do not intervene, you can’t help her now.

But father, she cried out, tears in her eyes.

I said no. do not defile my commands. We keep walking. Her dad ordered as they passed her, with Manda looking back, tears filling her eyes as she watched her best friend dying.

Dandara gasped, for air, before she said slowly grabbing up to Ashton’s hand.

I do see it…the light. It is fading…but it is there. She said before dropping her hand as it hit on the ground, as she laid motionless.
