Maverick POV

“That was a good training session, boys, but I’m afraid I might have bad news,” Coach Manson said.

The guys and I gave our full attention.

We worked so hard for this, what the hell could be wrong?

“Weather forecast states there’s a four-day blizzard on the horizon. Even if it ends before the derby, the fields won’t be playable. The derby’s been postponed as it stands.”

I groaned. “Shit.”

“There’s nothing we can do to control the weather. Once the weather starts to go south, all training sessions will be cancelled.”

“Damn, a four-day blizzard. What am I going to do?” Slider asked.

“I can think of a few things,” Storm smirked.

I rolled my eyes. This couldn’t have happened at the worst time. Being locked in with Odessa sounded like heaven. This was an opportunity of a lifetime, but her life

  • The Quarterback's Omega Mate   Chapter 139

Odessa POV“Get him, Sienna!” I coughed.Austin roared. “You bitch!”He flung her off like a flea. Sienna hit the ground and flashed her wolf at him. Before Austin could run off, Maverick tackled him to the ground. My mate punched him repeatedly with a force strong enough to destroy his jaw.“Mav! It’s okay,” I cried.“It’s not okay,” he said coldly.Austin turned blue, his feet dug into the ground, and his efforts to fend off Maverick were fading.“Maverick, please stop. Dustin’s inside,” I pleaded.Maverick threw him to the ground. Austin shifted into his wolf. He growled at Maverick. Maverick semi-shifted. His clothes tore into shreds, and fur sprouted from his body.“Get off my property!” My mate roared.Austin’s wolf flinched. He eyed Sienna and me before making the wise decision to run off.I turned to Sienna and sighed. “You’re back.”She reached for me and wrapped her arms around me. “Still getting into trouble, I see.”“Wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t, huh?”The three of us walked

  • The Quarterback's Omega Mate   Chapter 138

Maverick POVAfter the medical staff cleared me to train and play in the next game, I drove to the pack house for an emergency meeting with the pack council. This Dustin situation got me thinking, and I was torn.I never wanted my little brother to get in the middle of this war, but it was inevitable. He was innocent. When I arrived at the pack house, every member of the council was present and waiting for me. After the Luna trials and Rune’s attack on a council member, I had to find new members. Pearl was banished, Sofia was forced into retirement, and so was Higgins since his wife needed him more than we did.I was glad to see them all gone. Higgins was difficult to handle, and I didn’t trust him. I picked Coach Manson for a spot in the council; he qualified, and I knew he was on my side. Coral, a seer in the pack, was another new addition and Jeff, a local businessman who worked with my Dad.“Is everything alright, Alpha?” Darius asked.“Far from it,” I mumbled.“You’ve defeated th

Odessa POV“How did he get here?” I asked.“I can’t imagine it would be that hard to find the Alpha’s house.”We wrapped Dustin up in a bunch of towels, but he was still shivering. Wolves could usually tell their kin, but what if this was a random pup and not Dustin? Then what would we do?“Why isn’t he shifting back if he’s your brother?” I hissed.“He’s probably scared, or he can’t.”Seeing the little wolf shiver broke my heart.“Maverick, he’s so little.”Mav nodded. “He’s probably new to this. I haven’t seen him in so long.”Guilt washed over his face. Mav got down to the wolf’s level. He didn’t flinch or try to run.“You’re okay, Dustin. I’m going to take care of you. I’d never turn you away.”The wolf whimpered. Maybe it was all the medication I was on, but tears filled my eyes.“Come on, buddy. Shift.”Dustin whimpered.“You can do it. I’m right here.”Dustin rested his head between his paws and looked up at his brother.“Odessa, I might have to force him to shift.”“No, that’l

  • The Quarterback's Omega Mate   Chapter 136

Odessa POVThe day went by like a snail trying to cross the road. Having to go through it felt like a punishment. Ryder was the only casualty from the incident.Brandon was still in the wind. We had a wonderful ceremony for Ryder. The whole pack showed up except the one man who needed to be there. His sister flew back home just to say goodbye to her brother.Watching her break down in her mother’s arms was devastating.Ryder’s mother didn’t want people coming back to her house after the burial was over. People had their opinions about that, but the poor woman lost her son and her husband. I could imagine she didn’t want a lot of people around her for a second longer. The Daciana Devils invited people back to the stadium for refreshments and to celebrate the life of their captain. The invite extended to the Wildcats in a rare form of solidarity.I went because I worked there. Maverick had to attend, too, since he was the Alpha.“This team’s never going to be the same,” Callie commented

  • The Quarterback's Omega Mate   Chapter 135

Maverick POV“Everyone get out!” I yelled.Panic broke out. Everyone abandoned their food or drinks.“Cover your noses!”The bitter smell attacked my nostrils and threatened to close up my throat. I battled against it all. My mate had passed out in my arms.I got her outside and placed her on the ground. My backup just arrived.“What happened?” Storm demanded.“Brandon was receiving another delivery of the chemical weapon. They unleashed it in the alley. Rex better have found a cure.”“He’s in his way,” Storm replied.“Get Alto. He’s not leaving this pack!” I ordered.Gage and Storm darted off. The betas from the army ensured the civilians were okay.I breathed into Odessa’s mouth, trying to revive her. She’d been weak when we came here. She only inhaled seconds of the gas.“Wake up, babe. We’ve got so much to do.”I pumped her chest. Damn it, she wasn’t moving.“You can’t leave me, Odessa!”She jerked forward and coughed.“Get off me,” she mumbled.I breathed a sigh of relief. “You g

  • The Quarterback's Omega Mate   Chapter 134

Odessa POV“The way you handled Gavin was so hot. Don’t stress, you handled an Alpha wolf. A little doctor shouldn’t scare you.” Maverick said as he planted kisses on my lips.I lay on a stiff hospital bed waiting for my first doctor consultation before I start my treatments. Maverick drove us here after leaving the pack house. It felt too soon to be back here. It wasn’t that long ago when I’d been probed and made to do every test possible.“Miss Sloane, nice to have you back so soon!” Doctor Mason beamed. At least he was happy to see me.“Alpha Maverick, good to have you here, too. It’s best to start the treatment as soon as possible.” Maverick took my hand and squeezed it.“Do you have any questions, Miss Sloane?”I nodded. “How long will treatment last?”“A couple of months. After two months, I hope to see significant progress.”“Will this affect our mating ceremony?” Maverick asked.Doctor Mason held his clipboard tightly to his chest. “It all depends on how she’s feeling at the
