Maverick POV

Odessa lay beside me with her fingers resting in front of her lips and her curly red hair draped over her shoulders. It was the perfect sight. I opened my bedside drawer and pulled out my Polaroid camera.

I leaned back to take the perfect shot before she woke up.

“Great,” I murmured.

My phone buzzed on the nightstand.

I snatched it before it startled Odessa. It was Storm’s number.

What did he want this early in the morning? I climbed out of bed because I knew my friend was in some kind of trouble.

I wandered into the kitchen to take the call in private.

“Dude,” I said into the phone.

“Hello? Alpha Maverick,” a woman responded.

Oh shit.

“I’m Nurse Katie from Daciana Medical. You’re Storm’s second emergency contact. His father is out of service.”

“He’s in the hospital? What happened?” I yelled.

I paced the kitchen, raking my hair. No, this can’t happen.

“He was in a car accident in the early hours of the day. He’s in recovery.”

“I’ll be right there.”
