‘The winner of this year’s Most Popular Artist Award goes to…’ the host on stage began to bring everyone’s attention, making him even more focused.

The faces of the nominees, all of whom were top-tier, widely admired artists, looked tense. Of course, each of them was eager to receive the pure-gold trophy as the most popular artist in MineTown this year.

‘The winner is… Ruby Moon!’

As the winner was announced, victory music blared from the stage, accompanied by thunderous applause and cheers of congratulations for the angel-like woman in the white dress who was currently the center of attention.

Ruby Moon, a female artist sitting in the back row, covered her lips in shock. Her heart was pounding uncontrollably, as if it were accompanying the tears that coated her brown pupils.

Ruby looked around before walking, nodding respectfully to her seniors in the entertainment line. Her smile grew even brighter as she looked at the large screen displaying a list of films and commercials she had starred in.

"Congratulations, Miss Ruby,” the host congratulated, along with the awarding of the gold trophy that all the artists there desired.

“Thank you…” Ruby replied kindly, and a moment later, the applause grew louder as her trophy was raised high with great pride.

"With all due respect, I would like to express my gratitude to the seniors who have been nominated. You are all amazing. I am honored to be among my most amazing idols.“

“I am truly grateful to God for this opportunity. I also want to express my deepest gratitude to those who have supported and believed in me."

The audience, most of whom were well-known artists, continued to smile at Ruby, even though most of them were seniors, as Ruby had said, but they accepted the defeat of the newcomer without being discouraged.

That's because Ruby, the young actress who rose to fame with her debut film, is humble and talented. She's even starred in numerous commercials and several films by up-and-coming directors for low fees.

But who would have thought her role as a dumped wife would be a success and break into the mainstream?

"And finally, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my dad, who is currently in the hospital. I know he is watching me tonight from there."

“Dad, thank you for your life and the valuable lessons you taught me. This award is for you, Dad. I love you, Dad…”

Ruby once again received thunderous applause and cheers of joy with pride. More than anyone, she hoped that this kind of winning momentum would continue to be felt every year in her illustrious career.

But it turns out that the award was the only one she received before her life was shattered in one fateful night, leading to regrets that continue to this day. It's a beautiful yet bittersweet memory for her.

“Dad, I miss you. Please forgive your foolish daughter,” she said softly to the photo frame in her hand. Memories of that award moment five years ago filled her with guilt once again. It felt like her tears had been wasted during those five dark years.

Like eating her own feces, Ruby knows best what regret feels like.

Five years ago, after the awards ceremony, the producers and crew invited her to celebrate their victory. Ruby initially declined, remembering that her father needed company in the hospital.

However, the euphoria of victory led her to become so intoxicated that she became drunk.

That morning, the feeling was almost like standing on a frozen lake, and if she stepped on it, the surface would shatter, and she would sink.

How could she not feel that way when she woke up and realized she was in the arms of the CEO and successful billionaire of MineTown? And when she opened her phone, the devastating news from the hospital sent her spiraling into despair.

Before the father's grave was dry, a month later, she was found pregnant, and it was confirmed to be the CEO's child. In a hasty decision, the two entered into a conditional marriage for the common good.

However, even after five years of marriage, the relationship was like a hellish rope that seemed to continue to drag her to death. Her career as an artist was ruined, and she ended up confined to her home.

Instead of being a good mother and wife to the O'Neil family, Ruby sank further, feeling like a failure as a daughter and a human being.

Since giving birth to her son, and even through their five-year marriage, Ruby had done the foolish thing dozens of times, taking overdoses of sleeping pills, hoping to find peace when her eyes closed.

But her fate hadn't allowed her to die yet.

“I’ve been holding on for five years, but why can’t I get up and keep feeling like a dumb, Dad?” she said softly, glancing at the bottle of sleeping pills in her other hand. “I’m tired, Dad,” she continued, then put down her father’s photo frame.

Ruby uncapped the bottle and poured a random sleeping pill into her palm. Then, like someone possessed by a demon, she swallowed the dozens of pills in her hand while crying.

“Juan, Leo, I’m sorry…”

Life felt so hard and painful for her that she kept doing such foolish things, leaving her body weak and vulnerable to illness. Instead of dying, she herself didn't know why God hadn't taken her life.

However, tonight felt different. As the minutes passed, her chest ached and tightened, her heart pounded furiously and hotly, and her stomach reacted violently and painfully, making her feel like death was imminent. In reality, death wasn't as pleasant as she'd always imagined. It was excruciatingly painful.

Ruby suffered a seizure, foaming at the mouth, before finally losing consciousness. What should have been a perfect life felt miserable instead.

Dawn broke, and the woman began to regain consciousness when another woman's voice called the name of someone she seemed to have heard before.

"Mrs. Ruby, wake up. You must get ready soon," the voice rang out again, but Ruby's eyes wouldn't open. Her heart still ached, and her head was spinning.

“Mrs. Ruby, please wake up, or you will be in trouble because Mr.Juan is angry again.” The call was heard again, and because Ruby didn't feel like it was her who was being called, she continued to ignore the voice.

‘Who is Mrs. Ruby? Who is Mr. Juan? Who dares to scold me? Do you know who I am?’ she laughed inwardly at the woman's voice she had been hearing all this time.

However, Ruby's calmness, with her eyes closed, was disturbed when the woman beside her touched her and gently shook her.

"Mrs. Ruby, wake up. Mr. Juan will be home soon, and you still haven't cleaned up. I'll clean up this mess too," the woman's voice sounded more urgent this time.

Ruby, starting to feel strange, tried to open her eyes. Slowly, light began to appear, though faintly.

‘Where am I? Why am I here?’

Ruby muttered in surprise as her vision began to clear, and she saw the ceiling of the room she was in, different from her last memory of being in an old, rusty warehouse.

The room, filled with bright white and golden hues, was a feast for the eyes. She had rarely seen such a sparkling atmosphere before. It was like a princess's room.

"Mrs. Ruby, can you hear me? You're awake, right? Then come with me. I've prepared warm water for your bath, huh. Let me help you so it's quicker," the woman who had been calling out to her immediately made Ruby's lazy eyes flutter open.

She no longer explored the beautiful room she was in but instead turned to the woman standing nearby.

“You want to bathe me?!” A spontaneous sentence came out of Ruby’s lips along with her body’s reflexive movement of sitting up in shock.

'What's going on?'

"May you be destined to be a creature worse than a disgusting animal in your next life, as a consequence of your present life. Die in agony!"

Those were Maia's final words to her enemy, who appeared to be dying in excruciating pain. The previous barrage of gunfire had clearly acted as the Angel of Death for the pitiful man.

Maia left the man who was almost a corpse and rushed to carry Mike to her feet.

“Mike, are you okay?” Rose asked her confidant, who had accompanied her for the past ten years.

"Thank you, Boss. Because of you, I'm still breathing," Mike said gratefully, accompanied by a light laugh.

“You underestimate me too much. Get up, let’s go home now!” Maia replied, reaching out to pull Mike off the ground.

However, when she looked back, she saw that the enemy wasn't completely dead. The man seemed to be struggling to aim his gun at Maia's back, as her back was facing away from him.

'Boss, watch out!' Mike shouted, making both of them turn around, facing the enemy.

However, it was too late. The enemy bullet had already pierced Maia's chest, sending the gangster boss falling backward, but Mike caught her.

He walked to the refrigerator, opened the door, and took a bottle of water. But his mind had already drifted far away—to Maia’s signature spiral movement. To the snacks he always received before a mission. To the sharp gaze that could make even the wildest subordinate kneel.Mike took a swallow and whispered in his heart, If that’s you, Boss… what are you doing here, disguising yourself as a singer and living in the house of a soft-hearted man like Juan? And more than that, should I let you drown in this new world… or pull you back to the old one we once ruled together? He stood in the kitchen long after Jane went to her room. The bottle in his hand was covered in condensation, but he didn’t even notice. His thoughts replayed everything Jane had said. The way she sat. The way she folded clothes. The way she stared and reacted to the slightest sound. All of it… too familiar. That’s the Boss’s style. The sentence kept echoing in his head.Mike closed his eyes. Memories came like a storm

“Try fixing your hair, and you’ll look ten years younger.” After saying that, Maia walked away from him.Low-calorie snacks and a haircut. Not a big deal, supposedly. But in the past, only one person knew he disliked heavy breakfasts. Only one person had ever ordered her subordinates to always prepare emergency snacks before an ambush. And regarding his appearance, only one woman had ever dared to comment on it—and that was Maia. His hand holding the snack package tightened for a moment. He looked up, watching Ruby, who was now adjusting Leo’s small tie while smiling gently. Too gentle and strange in Mike’s eyes.Mike tried to brush the thought away. Don’t hallucinate. It’s probably just a coincidence. But when Ruby turned toward him and gave a small nod, with a gaze that somehow felt too familiar, Mike felt a slow stab in his chest. He had seen that look before. A look that made no sound, yet commanded. The gaze of a leader who did not need to speak. And Ruby Moon… should not have th

Maia did not blink. But her heart beat twice as fast.Mike leaned back in his chair. “There used to be someone who always said something like this… The price can be adjusted, as long as the risk and control remain in my hands. And you just said something similar.”Maia pretended not to understand. “Maybe that’s common thinking for a woman who’s often surrounded by cunning people, isn’t it?”Jane laughed. “That’s true. Women are smart nowadays. Ma’am, don’t be too sensitive about someone’s negotiation style, okay?”But Mike was still staring at Ruby, with an unusual look in his eyes. There was a long silence. Then Mike spoke softly, but clearly.“Fine. We’ll look for the best female personnel. But if within a month no one meets the standard, feel free to cancel this contract.”Maia nodded slowly. “Deal.”They stood up, and Jane shook Maia’s hand enthusiastically. But Mike… did not shake that hand.He only looked at Ruby one more time, as if trying to pierce through something invisible.

Jane paused for a second. Her face looked slightly wary, but she still answered politely.“CloverGPS used to belong to my father, but now it’s managed by two people. I am the co-founder, and the other is my brother. Mike Thunder.”Maia’s gaze hardened slightly, yet she remained composed.“Mike Thunder,” Maia repeated softly. “Is he reliable?”Jane nodded. “He is. But… he rarely shows up directly at the office. He’s mostly in the field or coordinating operations from somewhere else. My brother is… well, a bit mysterious, Mrs. Ruby.”“But one thing I know for sure—if you want the best in security, he’s the one.”Maia leaned back in her chair. Her eyes narrowed slightly, not out of suspicion but because memories of the past began to resurface.Mike, the old wolf who had once been loyal under her command, now had a place of his own. She gave a faint smile. “In that case, perhaps I did come to the right place. May I speak with him first?”“Just a moment, I’ll call my brother!” Jane quickly

  • The Queen's Second Life   Need A Bodyguard

At that moment, Juan came in carrying a glass of warm milk. “Your performance earlier was great,” he said. “Honestly, I was afraid you’d waver because of all that strange news.”Maia only smiled. “No, I’m fine. This isn’t the first time the world has been cruel to a woman, especially to a newcomer.”Juan sat across from her. “But if you start feeling unsafe, you can consider taking a break. Or if you want, we can move.”Maia gently shook her head. “Precisely because I know the situation isn’t safe, I want you to allow me to hire a personal bodyguard. Not just for me, but for Leo too.”Juan was slightly surprised, though he quickly hid it. “Are you sure it’s necessary to that extent?”“Juan,” she said softly but firmly, “I just want to keep everything safe. I know the people behind me might play dirty, and I have to be prepared.”Juan looked at his wife, thinking. “Okay. If it makes you feel safe, I’ll support it.”Maia knew Rose might go even crazier. But now, she had her own stage, h

  • The Queen's Second Life   Not a Clarification

On the other side, at Juan’s house—Maia stared at her phone, which was filled with notifications. She had just reopened her old social media account. And there, the hashtag #RubyMoonComeback was already trending.Juan sat in the living room chair, reading the same news. He let out a long sigh.“You only posted a YYube video a few days ago and sang once in a small studio, but netizens are already making a fuss. You’re impressive,” he muttered.Maia smiled slightly. “Maybe they’re carried away by my off-key voice, haha… that’s why they’re so enthusiastic.”Juan looked at Maia, his expression mixed. “Are you sure you’ll be strong, Ruby?”Maia turned to him, her gaze firm. “I don’t have to be number one anymore. But I want to stand with the name I chose myself. I want Ruby Moon to be known for her voice and her struggle too, not only for past scandals as an actress.”Juan nodded slowly. He knew the woman in front of him was no longer the Ruby Moon of the past.Thursday morning, Ruby Moon
