LOGINDamian’s POV
“Alpha!” I ignored Rowan’s voice as I dropped to my knees beside the wolf lying motionless on the road. Rain poured heavily over us, soaking through my clothes within seconds. The scent of blood hit me hard. My wolf snarled violently inside me. “Female,Injured,Werewolf”. I carefully turned her body over and the moment her skin touched my hands, the air around me went still. My chest tightened instantly. “No way…” I muttered. The wolf had already shifted back into her human form because of the impact. Wet dark hair clung to her pale face. Bruises covered almost every visible part of her skin. Then I recognized her. The woman from the hotel. “Maddison.” Her name left my lips quietly. Henry rushed toward us. “Damian, we need to move now. More rogues could still be around.” I barely heard him. My eyes remained fixed on Maddison’s unconscious body. Her lips were slightly parted and blood trickled from the side of her head onto the wet road. Something inside me snapped. “Get the car ready.” My voice came out dangerously calm. Rowan froze for half a second before nodding quickly. “Yes Alpha.” I slid one arm beneath Maddison carefully, trying not to worsen her injuries. Even unconscious, her body trembled weakly against mine. My wolf growled again. Protect her. The thought came so suddenly that it startled me. I carried her into the backseat myself before getting in beside her. “Drive.” I ordered. The car sped through the rain immediately. The hospital hallways smelled like antiseptic and blood. I stood outside the emergency room while doctors and nurses rushed around frantically. Henry leaned against the wall watching me silently. “You know her?” he finally asked. I did not answer immediately. My eyes remained on the closed emergency doors. “She’s the woman from the hotel.” Henry’s brows lifted slightly. “The same one that disappeared the next morning?” I nodded once. His expression softened a little but quickly became serious again. “She looks badly abused.” My jaw tightened. I remembered the bruises on her arms. The fear in her eyes. The way she kept apologizing even while drunk. At that time, I knew something was wrong. But not this wrong. The emergency room doors suddenly pushed open and the doctor walked out looking tense. “Well?” I asked immediately. The doctor swallowed nervously under my stare. “She lost a lot of blood. Three broken ribs. Her shoulder is dislocated and there are signs of repeated physical abuse over time.” Henry cursed under his breath. The doctor continued carefully. “We managed to stabilize her for now but…” He hesitated. “But what?” I growled. “She may not survive the night.” Silence fell heavily. Something dangerous rose inside me instantly. “You will save her.” I said coldly. “Alpha—” “You will save her.” I repeated slowly. The doctor stiffened. “We will do our best.” “That is not enough.” The hallway became silent again. Every nurse passing by lowered their heads immediately. “If anything happens to her,” I said quietly, “every doctor in this hospital will answer to me personally.” The doctor’s face paled. “Understood, Alpha.” He rushed back inside immediately. Henry stared at me for a long moment after the doors closed again. “You’re attached already.” “I barely know her.” “That has never stopped the bond before.” I looked away sharply. “No.” But even I did not believe my own answer. Hours passed and the rain outside became heavier. I remained seated outside the room while Rowan stood nearby giving updates about the rogue attack. But I barely listened. My attention stayed on the woman fighting for her life behind those doors. Finally, close to dawn, the doctor returned. This time his shoulders relaxed slightly. “She survived the surgery.” The tension in my chest loosened for the first time that night. “But she is still unconscious,” the doctor added carefully. “She needs rest. Her body has been through severe trauma.” I nodded once. “Can I see her?” The doctor stepped aside immediately. Inside the room, machines beeped softly. Maddison looked smaller lying on the hospital bed. Fragile. Her face was pale and bruised. Bandages wrapped around her shoulder and ribs. For some reason, anger burned through me again. Whoever did this to her… My wolf wanted blood. I moved closer unconsciously. Then her fingers twitched weakly against the bed. I froze. Slowly, painfully, Maddison’s eyes fluttered open slightly. Confusion clouded her gaze at first. Then fear replaced it instantly the moment she saw me. Her breathing quickened. “No…” she whispered weakly. “You…” I softened my voice immediately. “You’re safe.” Her body trembled harder. “Please…” she whispered brokenly. “Don’t take me back there.”Maddison’s POVI barely slept that night.Every time I closed my eyes, I kept seeing Liam running into Emma’s arms again.“Mommy.”The word wouldn’t leave my head no matter how hard I tried.I turned around on the bed slowly and stared at the ceiling. The room was quiet except for the soft sound of the air conditioner. Everything here was calm, too calm. I still wasn’t used to it.No shouting. No fear.No footsteps that made my chest tighten.I slowly sat up, pressing my hand against my ribs when pain shot through my body. The bruises were healing, but not fast enough. My wolf was still weak after the accident.I looked around the room again before my eyes stopped on the glass of water near the bed.Damian must have left it there earlier. My chest tightened strangely at the thought.I still didn’t understand why he cared this much. The sound of a knock pulled me from my thoughts. Before I could answer, the door opened slightly and Katie peeked her head inside.“Oh good, you’re awake.”
Damian’s POVI stayed with her until she finally fell asleep.Even then, her breathing remained uneven.Like her body still expected pain even in rest.I stood near the window quietly, watching the city lights outside the penthouse while my wolf remained restless inside me.Angry.Every word Maddison said replayed in my head repeatedly.“I changed everything about myself for him.”The sentence wouldn’t leave me alone.I had seen broken wolves before. But Maddison was different. She wasn’t just hurt. She had been slowly stripped apart piece by piece until she no longer knew who she was without pain attached to her.A knock came at the door.I stepped outside quietly before closing it behind me.Rowan was waiting.“Alpha.”“What is it?”“We got another report from Crescent Pack.”My expression hardened instantly.“Talk.”Rowan handed me a file. “Things are getting worse internally.”I opened it immediately while walking toward my office.Henry was already there.“You look murderous,” he
Maddison’s POVI woke up screaming. My entire body shaked violently as I gasped for air. Sweat covered my skin and my chest rose up and down painfully fast.“Liam!”The name left my lips before I could stop it.For a second I didn’t know where I was.The nightmare still clung to me tightly.Liam crying.Fernando dragging him away from me.Emma smiling while holding my son.I pressed my hand against my chest as I struggled to breathe properly. The door suddenly opened.Damian rushed inside immediately.“Maddison?”I looked up at him, my vision blurry from tears. His eyes scanned me quickly before he crossed the room in long steps.“You’re shaking.”I didn’t realize it until he said it.My hands were trembling badly.Damian crouched in front of the bed carefully. “Look at me.”I tried. But my breathing wouldn’t slow down.“It was just a dream,” he said quietly.“No.” My voice cracked instantly. “It didn’t feel like one.”My throat burned painfully.“He was crying,” I whispered. “I could
Maddison’s POVI sat quietly after Damian left the room. The silence around me should have been comforting, but it wasn’t.It felt empty.Cold.My fingers tightened around the blanket as I stared at nothing. My mind refused to stop replaying everything over and over again.Liam running past me.Liam calling Emma “Mommy.”Fernando standing there like I meant absolutely nothing.A sharp pain spread through my chest and I squeezed my eyes shut.Three weeks.I had been unconscious for three whole weeks. What if Liam thought I abandoned him? What if Emma had already convinced him that she was his real mother?Tears burned my eyes instantly.“No…” I whispered shakily. My breathing became uneven again.I could still remember the excitement on Liam’s face when he ran into that room. The way he smiled at Emma. The way he ignored me.I pressed my hand against my mouth to stop the sob threatening to escape.Maybe Fernando was right.Maybe Liam really did feel safer around her.The thought shatte
Damian’s POVI remained outside Maddison’s room long after I left.My hands stayed inside my pockets as I stared at the hospital hallway quietly. The smell of antiseptic filled the air and the sound of distant footsteps echoed around the floor. But my mind was somewhere else completely. On her.Again.It irritated me.I had spent years controlling every emotion I had. Years building walls so high that nobody could cross them again. Not after the betrayal. Not after the blood. Not after watching the people I trusted most destroy my family from the inside.Yet somehow this woman had entered my life like a storm without even trying. And my wolf…My wolf would not calm down around her.I clenched my jaw tightly.Something was wrong. The connection I felt toward Maddison was becoming too strong too quickly. It did not make sense. She already had a mate.Fernando Harris. The Alpha of Crescent Pack.Just thinking about his name made darkness settle heavily inside my chest. My wolf growled lo
Maddison’s POVI could not sleep properly after Damian left the room.Every time I closed my eyes I kept hearing his voice repeatedly inside my head.“Then you won’t go back alone.”My chest tightened painfully each time I remembered it.I shifted slowly on the bed and instantly regretted it when pain shot through my ribs. A soft gasp escaped my lips and I grabbed the blanket tightly trying to breathe through it.The room was quiet again.Too quiet.I hated silence sometimes because silence always gave my thoughts room to breathe. And my thoughts were dangerous.I turned my head slowly toward the window. The rain outside had reduced but the sky was still dark. I could see faint city lights from a distance and it reminded me that I was far away from Crescent Pack.Far away from Fernando. But somehow I still felt trapped.A shaky breath left my lips.I wondered if Liam had eaten. If he had slept well.If he asked about me.Or maybe…Maybe he had already forgotten me.The thought hurt so
