CHAPTER 28: KAYDEN’S CIRCLE OF FRIENDS 3 – SEEN THROUGH

“Do you have a thing for her?”

As the guys followed the girls, Paul suddenly asked Kayden and caught him unaware.

Kayden nearly stumbled at the unexpected question but quickly gathered himself as he looked at Paul with a questioning gaze, but the other simply smiled knowingly before adding, “I have known you for years, Kay and you haven’t looked at any female the way you are looking at her.”

When Bolton heard that, he nodded in agreement as he added, “is she your mate?”

Kayden being bombarded by so many questions at once didn’t know how to respond but these guys were his men, friends and the people who looks after the pack with him. There was no reason to hide it from them when they had seen through him.

Kayden looked at Elowyn who was being sandwiched by the ladies, their laughter drifting in his ears. He didn’t eavesdrop on what they were talking about but it should be something that Elowyn was liking. His heart raced as the smile on his face widened.

“I don’t know if she is my mate. I can’t feel the link at all but something about her keeps drawing us both from the moment we saw her. So, I guess, it can be said that the feelings are there,” he told them truthfully, as he looked at them, letting out a faint chuckle.

Both Paul and Bolton were surprised when they heard that. That was dangerous, especially for werewolves by them. They don’t know if they should call it a curse or a blessing but one should never play with a mate bond.

Once these mates appear, no matter how much love and dedication one feels for his or her lover, everything would be disrupted. The bond, forces you to inch closer towards that particular person.

In case for Kayden, it was even ridiculous. At their age, it should be a simple thing to know whether if someone is a mate or not. It only takes a single whiff or a glance, and yet Kayden seems to be falling for someone who didn’t share that kind of bond.

What were they going to do with him?

Kayden chuckled deprecatively upon sensing what his friends were thinking. He also knew that he was in trouble, but what else could he do?

“So, what do you plan to do?” Paul didn’t lay out what was already known to everyone and asked that.

Kayden looked at Elowyn who was in front and let out a sigh, “I guess, I will take it one step at a time.”

He didn’t dare rush into things. Judging from what he saw from her earlier when she begged him. Elowyn has a story to tell, and one he might not like hearing. For women, there were a few reasons they would want to get stronger and carry such heavy resentment.

Either they were bullied by family or a lover. Elowyn was very young and at the age of twenty-one, there was only one thing that he could think of; a lover.

If she was still hurt and in such a state, talking about feelings would be pointless. She wouldn’t be ready for anything like that. So, it was better to wait and see, or worm himself into her heart slowly without alarming her.

“You need to remember that once you take this step, you might both get hurt. Don’t forget that your mate is still out there!” Paul threw a bitter pill at Kayden and he smiled wryly wondering if Paul couldn’t read the atmosphere but that’s how Paul was like.

When he opens his mouth, it was game over.

He couldn’t even retort as he knew the truth as well.

Kayden this time didn’t answer and Bolton didn’t add anything. He was silent, as if lost in thoughts.

The guys silently followed, while the ladies were approaching the communal hall still chatting.

“You don’t have to worry about anything. Everyone here is very friendly and we help each other.”

“That’s true. There are a lot of girls around your age. So, you won’t be lonely.”

Elowyn felt very warm and much more ease as she talked to these ladies who were supposed to be at the top of the hierarchy. When talking to them, they didn’t look like the bosses at all.

She felt very welcomed and warm.

It seems like ever since she left that pack, her life has been filled with good and loving people.

She was truly confined in a small space; a frog at the bottom of a well, to even think that the world revolved around Hilary.

It was fated that she ended up this way.

Meanwhile, inside the hall, Linda was sitting with other girls at one of the tables chatting while waiting for the Alpha and elders to arrive.

“How is she like? The new girl!” and they were all curious about Elowyn.

Everyone in the pack was very close regardless of being a witch, werewolf or humans. There were no vampires in the pack yet but who knows what the future will bring?

It was normal for everyone to be curious and Linda, liking Elowyn so much, since she was very friendly and easy to get close to. Wanted to share that with the others, so that they would welcome her with open arms, the same way she did.

“She is lovely, approachable and cute. Though at times she is more introverted but that normal. It’s a new environment, after all.”

“Really! She ain’t that overbearing kind?”

Linda shook her head, a smile on her face. “You will see when she comes. I believe that we will be hanging out with each other once she has settled down.”

“I guess she should be arriving any moment from now on,” another girl said as she craned her neck to look towards the door and amidst that, someone suddenly opened the mental link and screamed excitedly making every girl in the hall to look towards the screaming person.

The screaming person was a girl brought to the pack six month ago. She was an omega, picked up by the pack’s elder. She was being bullied and experiencing the worst humiliation that most of them had suffered and went through before she was rescued.

Of course, the bullies were tortured badly, it wasn’t certain if they were still alive. This girl is very shy in person but when given a chance to open the mental link, she can go wild. It’s her safe haven and everyone was now used to her.

Whenever she acts like that, all the girls knows that something very intriguing was happening and to that shy girl, anything revolving around the elder who saved her was intriguing. Hearing her screaming like that, it only meant one thing; they were here.

After taking a quick glance at the girl, all eyes turned towards the door and Linda’s jaws dropped to the ground.

“Moon Goddess, what am I seeing?” she muttered in shock upon seeing Elowyn being sandwiched by the female elders.

Were those two ladies this friendly?

Why does she seem not to recall something like that?

She wasn’t the only one shocked but everyone else in the hall was very surprised but the people in question didn’t feel like that at all.

Inwardly, Elowyn was nervous but that nervousness only lasted for a mere seconds before she was chided by the ancestors.

[Us seers aren’t weak. Remember who you are! Once you start to cower, everyone will step on you!]

Thinking about being stepped on, Elowyn quickly collected her nerves and entered the hall with a smile of confidence. Unbeknownst to her, the two ladies with her noticed her change and both smiled at each other.
