 Daniella’s POV

“Well,” she said, stepping inside and closing the door behind her. “Isn’t this cozy?”

Her lips curved into a wry smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Daniella,” she said, her voice dripping with feigned warmth. “I thought I’d find you here.”

“What are you doing here?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Her smile widened. “I think the better question is: What are you doing here? Because whatever game you’re playing, Daniella, it ends now.”

“What do you mean, ‘it ends now?’” My voice was steady, but I could feel my hands trembling by my sides.

Matilda took a step closer, her heels clicking against the polished floor. “You know exactly what I mean, Daniella.” Her voice was sweet, almost mocking. “Liam and I are going to be mated soon. It’s been decided. The grandest wedding, the most lavish mate ceremony. Everyone is thrilled. And, well…” She trailed off, her gaze flickering to my stomach.

“What?” My chest tightened as dread spread through me.

“We can’t have any… complications,” she said, her tone dripping with false sympathy. “An illegitimate child? It would ruin everything. For Liam, for me, for the family. You understand, don’t you?”

The blood drained from my face. “You can’t be serious.”

Matilda’s smile never wavered. “Oh, but I am. And it’s what Liam wants.”

Her words hit me like a physical blow. My legs felt weak, and I stumbled back a step. “No. He wouldn’t…”

“Oh, but he would,” Matilda cut in smoothly. “He made it very clear. He doesn’t want this child. He asked me to come and speak to you because, well, he thought you’d be too emotional to listen to him directly. You’re good at being emotional, aren’t you, Daniella?”

I shook my head, my heart pounding painfully against my ribs. “No. You’re lying.”

Her laugh was soft but cruel. “Why would I lie? I’m trying to help you, Daniella. Save you from further embarrassment. Liam doesn’t want you. He never did. And this… mistake you’re carrying? It’s only going to make things worse for everyone.”

Tears blurred my vision, but I refused to let them fall. “This isn’t a mistake. This is my child.”

“Not for long,” Matilda snapped, her voice cold. “Do the right thing. Get rid of it. Spare yourself the humiliation. Spare Liam the trouble.”

I wanted to scream at her, to throw something, to lash out. But my voice was caught in my throat, choked by the sheer weight of her words. “He really said that?” I whispered, my voice breaking.

Matilda’s expression softened, but it was a mockery of comfort. “He did. And honestly, Daniella, isn’t it better this way? Think of it as mercy. You wouldn’t want to bring a child into a life where it’s unwanted, would you?” she sneered and left, slamming the door behind her

I froze unable to reiterate, I felt hollow, like a shell of the person I was before. Her words echoed in my mind, causing me immense pain. He doesn’t want this child. He doesn’t want you.

I stumbled out of the hospital, my vision blurred with unshed tears. And then I saw him.

Liam.

He was standing by the entrance, his tall frame unmistakable even through my haze of pain. My heart leaped at the sight of him, a flicker of hope igniting in the darkness. I would speak to him again, maybe Matilda was lying, but before I could call out to him, Matilda appeared.

“What a coincidence,” she said brightly, her voice carrying easily across the space. “You’re here at the hospital too?”

I froze, watching as she approached him, her hand resting lightly on his arm. She leaned in closer, her expression soft and delicate.

“I haven’t been feeling well,” she murmured, loud enough for me to hear. “Would you mind taking me home? I’m feeling a little faint.”

Liam glanced at her, his brow furrowing in concern. Then his eyes met mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw something there—something that resembled guilt or hesitation. But it was gone as quickly as it came.

“You can take care of yourself, can’t you?” he said to me, his tone distant, almost indifferent.

Before I could respond, he turned and walked away, Matilda clinging to his arm like she belonged there.

My hand instinctively went to my stomach, the place where a tiny heartbeat I’d grown to love so fiercely.

“You can take care of yourself,” Liam’s cold words replayed in my mind.

Was it true? Had he really said those things to Matilda?

I shook her head as if to physically rid herself of the thought. No, this wasn’t him. He wouldn’t ask me to do this. He wouldn’t ask me to kill our baby.

But Matilda’s voice had been so confident, so cruel.

"This is what he wants, Daniella. He doesn’t want this mistake ruining his life.”

**************

I stumbled into the living room as soon as I got into my apartment, and collapsed onto the couch, burying my face in my hands as I was overcome with grief and my body wrecked as I sobbed.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice cracking. “I’m so sorry.”

The ache in my heart was unbearable, but it was nothing compared to the sharp, sudden pain that shot through my abdomen.

I froze.

The pain came again, more intense this time, making me gasp. I clutched my stomach, my breathing ragged.

“No… no, no, no,” I murmured, panic rising all over me. My thighs felt damp, and when I put my hands and pulled them away, I saw the unmistakable streak of blood staining my palms.

My heart stopped.

With great effort, I rose from the couch and went to the bathroom. Each step was agony, the pain in my abdomen intensifying, doubling me over. Then my eyes traveled downward.

My knees buckled at the sight of the blood soaking through my clothes. It was everywhere—running down my thighs, pooling at my feet.

“No,” I choked out, my voice barely audible. “Please, no.”

The world blurred as the pain reached a crescendo, and I collapsed to the floor.

I lay there for what seemed like an eternity, curled up on the cold tiles, clutching my stomach as if I could hold onto the life slipping away from me. My breaths came in short, shallow gasps, my vision swimming.

“Please,” I begged, my voice hoarse. “Please, stay. Please don’t leave me.”

But the pain didn’t stop. It came in waves, each one worse than the last until it felt like my body was being torn apart from the inside.

Somewhere in the distance, I thought I heard the faint cry of a wolf—a low, mournful sound that echoed through the silence.

My head turned weakly toward the sound, my vision blurring as the world around me began to fade. I wasn’t sure if the sound was real or just my imagination, but it felt so close, so familiar.

And then I heard it—soft, faint, like a whisper. A whimper, small and fragile, almost like a child’s cry.

My heart broke.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, tears streaming down my face. “I’m so sorry.”

The pain began to fade, replaced by a cold, empty numbness. The warmth I carried within me, the tiny life I loved so fiercely, was gone.

The car slowed as it pulled up to the Garvalle estate.Alpha Liam exited first, his jaw clenched tight, his expression stormy despite the calm weather. His mother followed closely behind, silent and composed, though a strange tightness pressed behind her eyes. They walked inside silently, climbing the stairs to her private sitting room. It was one of the older wings of the house, quieter and warmer than the more modern, sterile parts of the estate. The room smelled faintly of rosewood and lavender—of memories.Ms. Garvalle moved purposefully toward a tall armoire in the corner. She opened it and began rifling through the lower drawers, finally pulling out a large, worn leather-bound album with faded corners and gold embossing on the spine.“Come sit,” she said softly, placing the album down on the coffee table. Liam joined her on the couch, his broad shoulders tense, his brow furrowed in irritation rather than curiosity. The first page flipped open, revealing a photo of two toddlers—J

Alpha Czar and Luna Arya stood near the waiting vehicle that would return them to their pack. Arya smiled faintly as she tucked a loose strand of her golden hair behind her ear. “It’s strange, Czar,” she murmured, glancing back toward the pack house. “I initially did not want to come, and now that it is time to leave, I already feel nostalgic.”Czar turned toward her, the corners of his eyes crinkling in a smile. “Alpha Reid has indeed been a good host.”They had barely spoken the words when a tall figure approached them. It was Beta Elric, Dalton’s second-in-command.“Alpha Czar,” he said with a respectful bow of his head. “Alpha Dalton requests a private word with you before you depart—if you’d be so kind.”Czar lifted an eyebrow, surprised. “A private word? With me?”Elric nodded. “Yes, sir. He asked that I escort you personally.”Czar glanced at Arya, who gave him a soft nod of encouragement. “Go,” she said. “I’ll wait here.”The drive to Dalton’s private office was short but quie

Alpha Reid and Luna Maeve, as the proud parents of the groom, make an intentional decision to visit their esteemed guests where they were quartered before they leave for their various homes. It was important to them that they thank them personally for making the journey to their packs and honouring them by attending their son's wedding. Sophie had insisted on joining them, throwing a tantrum when Daniella refused. “I want to say thank you, too,” she had said with wide, innocent eyes. “Because they came to see my mommy and Dalton get married.”After the statement, neither Daniella nor Dalton's parents could refuse her. They made their way to the west wing of the pack with Sophie skipping with innocent delight, holding on tight to Luna Maeve's hands. As soon as they reached the building, Luna Maeve knelt and brushed a loose curl from Sophie’s cheek. “You’ll help us thank the guests, sweetheart?”Sophie nodded solemnly, puffing out her chest. “I’m very good at thanking people. The wedding had concluded hours ago—glorious, heart-swelling, and perfect in every way. The garden had slowly emptied as the guests, pack leaders, and visiting dignitaries took their leave, returning to their assigned quarters in the expansive estate.Laughter still echoed faintly in the distance, mingling with the crackle of torches and the gentle rustle of evening wind. But not all was tranquil.Alpha Renwick, lingered in the west wing where the Garvalles had been quartered. With an almost careless charm, he leaned against the open doorway of Mrs. Garvalle’s room."You haven’t aged a day since I last saw you," Renwick said smoothly, his voice low and suggestive.Mrs. Garvalle arched a brow at him but did not turn him away. "You’re still terrible at lying, Renwick," she said with a small, amused smile. “But I’ll accept the compliment. It’s been a long day. Shouldn’t you be on your way?”“Perhaps,” he replied, a hint of mischief in his smile. “But your company is far more refreshing t

Mrs. Garvalle turned to Liam, placing a firm but elegant hand on his forearm. Her voice was clipped, refined with years of social grace, but it left little room for debate.“Liam, it’s time,” she said, eyes flitting across the lavish ballroom toward the dais where Daniella and Dalton stood surrounded by well-wishers. “We should go and present our gift now.”Liam exhaled sharply through his nose, his jaw tightening ever so slightly as he followed her gaze. There they were — Daniella and Dalton — standing side by side beneath the soft golden lights, their heads bent close as they laughed quietly at something shared between them. The sight of Daniella smiling like that, not at him but at another man, twisted something low in his chest. His hands, buried in the pockets of his tailored coat, clenched into fists. He turned his eyes away, unwilling to let his expression betray the turmoil roiling inside him. “No,” he muttered finally, voice low and gravelled.Mrs. Garvalle turned to him, bro

Once adorned with steaming platters and fresh-baked bread, the long table now lay scattered with used linen napkins and half-full wine glasses. At the head of the hall, Daniella sat with Sophie nestled at her side, the child still clutching the handmade cloth doll Grace had given her during dinner. Sophie’s cheeks were rosy from all the affection and attention, but her eyes darted occasionally toward the door, as if still fearing this was all a fragile dream that might vanish.Dalton, seated next to Daniella, reached under the table and gently squeezed her hand. She turned to look at him, her smile weary but grateful. Then the sound of a wooden staff striking the ground once, then twice, reverberated through the hall. All eyes turned toward the ceremonial steward standing near the hearth.“May I have your attention?” the steward declared in a deep, commanding voice. "Tonight, we don’t only celebrate a reunion, or even survival. We celebrate love, loyalty, and the unwavering ties of b

Liam stood rooted to the ground, the smile he’d worn moments ago stretched tightly across his face like a mask too brittle to hold. Daniella’s retreating figure moved with quiet resolve, her back straight, her shoulders squared against the world. She didn’t glance back—not once. That alone gutted him more than anything else.He swallowed hard, something bitter clinging to the back of his throat. It felt like his heart had been ripped out of his chest and thrown into the wind, left to scatter in pieces he’d never gather again. The ache in his chest wasn’t sudden—it had been there for a while now, like an infection he’d ignored until it became impossible to ignore. But now, watching her walk away with that same quiet strength that once kept him afloat, Liam realized the finality of it. She was no longer his. Maybe she never had been.He blinked fast, furious even at himself, when he felt his vision blur. It was ridiculous. He wasn’t the kind of man who cried. He’d trained his whole life

A waiter handed Grace and Daniella a flute of sparkling wine. “Don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile so much. Careful now. Your face might just get stuck like that.” Daniella let out a soft laugh, her eyes fixed on the dance floor where Dalton twirled Sophie around like she was made of air and starlight. The little girl’s laughter rang out, bright and unrestrained, her hands clasped tightly around Dalton’s as he spun her again.“Look at them,” Daniella whispered, her voice barely audible above the music. “He adores her.”Grace followed her gaze and smiled. “And she adores him right back. She hasn’t stopped laughing all evening.”A soft warmth bloomed in Daniella’s chest, almost too much to bear. Her heart swelled as she watched her daughter shriek with joy, her little shoes tapping against the polished wood as Dalton guided her gently, protectively, like she was the most precious thing in the world.A perfect moment. And yet…For the briefest flicker of a second, a shadow moved acros

It was already past noon when the wedding ceremony ended, and it was time for the reception. The garden outside shimmered under a thousand golden fairy lights, casting a warm, dreamlike glow over the venue. Music floated through the air, soft and romantic. Laughter rippled among the tables, clinking glasses, and heartfelt banter among the guests. At the heart of it all stood Dalton, tall and regal in a dark tailored suit that made his eyes gleam. Beside him, Daniella, radiant in another gown she changed for the reception. The gown was made of moonlight lace and soft pearl, and her hair was adorned with tiny blossoms. She smiled with trembling lips as the band shifted melodies."Ladies and gentlemen," the emcee announced with so much enthusiasm, "please turn your attention to the floor for the bride and groom’s first dance as husband and wife."Applause erupted as Dalton stepped forward and extended his hand to Daniella, bowing slightly. She placed her hand in his, her touch feather-li
