Chapter Twenty Five

Aurora’s POV

“No…no…no. This is crazy!” I say, snapping out of whatever spell I'd been under. “I can’t marry you, Michael”

“Why not?” Michael said, still on his knees. He looked very surprised.

“Michael, please stand up. I can’t do this. Please stop this…” I said.

Michael reluctantly got up and pocketed the little box. “Why are you doing this Aurora? Is this some form of payback for what I did to you?” Gone were any traces of emotion in his voice.

My heart hardened as I remembered my humiliation and pain. “As much as I would love to get back at you, that’s not what this is about. This doesn’t….it just doesn’t feel right!”

“It feels very right to me. I traveled such a long distance to get to you of course it feels right. But I’ll respect your decision for now, that doesn’t mean I won’t try to convince you every time I’m here,” Michael says.

I was suddenly feeling genuinely sorry for Michael, he seemed so sincere that my determination almost waivered.
