I sighed as I adjusted the apron around my waist, preparing myself for another long night of work.
As an omega, my place in the pack was obvious. I was destined to serve.
And tonight, I'll be serving at the Alpha's party which was being held in the pack club house.
It was a celebratory party for the partnership between our pack and another powerful pack.
You see, our pack recently made an alliance with a powerful Lycan King.
I heard of his arrival on our pack grounds but only the elites were allowed to see him. I had never seen him face to face. I didn't have the privilege or audacity to.
We omegas aren't allowed to come out when certain people are in the pack or meet with them.
When I do go out for any reason, I keep my head down most of the time. If I make eye contact with anyone, it's seen as an insult and I can be punished.
I barely see anyone anyway. I'm mostly in the servant quarters, waiting to be assigned my tasks for the day.
All the low ranking wolves, orphans and maids stay there. We do menial work such as cleaning, bartending and other jobs for a small fee.
Our manager, Kim, takes the large cut. If we dare complain, she'll punish us. She tells us how grateful we should be to be under her roof and we should appreciate anything we're given.
It's a smart way to collect money forcefully from the poor but hey! Who am I to complain?
I remember when someone tried hard to fight for her rights. Kim reported her to the Alpha and she was banished. She's a rogue now.
That incident was a clear warning to us all.
It taught us all a lesson. We would take whatever we were given, no matter how small it was.
We didn't have a choice, most especially me.
Back to the present.... The entire pack was invited for the party. Everyone here was having a good time.
As a mere waitress, I wasn't meant to partake in the festivities. My job was to serve and to ensure that everyone's needs were met.
The loud music and flashing lights in the club were more than enough to make my eyesight blurry.
I made my way to the kitchen to get more food for the guests.
I leaned on the counter to catch my breath. I did my best to steady my eyesight.
If you can't tell already, the party thing isn't really my scene.
I wonder how people go to the club almost every weekend. I'd get tired.
"Hey babe!" a voice said excitedly.
I turned my head and saw Lily, a friend of mine.
She was my only friend in the pack. She was the only decent person who lived in the servant quarters. We've been tight for a long time.
"Hi Lily" I murmured.
"Guess what?" she squealed "I saw this cute guy. He's super hot. We made a connection. He might be my mate"
My heart skipped a beat as I listened to her words. I always thought about what it would be like to find my mate.
Maybe my other half would make me happy.
I've lived a miserable life for as long as I can remember.
As an omega, the chances of finding a mate were slim.
I was nineteen already and I hadn't found my mate.
Honestly, I had given up.
I'm sure that my mate would reject me even if I did find him.
Who would love someone like me anyway?
Unlike me, Lily wasn't born an omega. She actually came from a good family but her pack got taken over by an enemy pack which forced her to flee.
While she was in the forest, she was rescued by one of our guards.
"Are you sure he's your mate or are you just horny?" I teased.
She stared into space as if thinking about it "Hmm.... Maybe both?"
I laughed.
"What's going on here?!" a loud voice boomed through the kitchen.
I recognized who it was as soon as I heard her voice. It was Kim.
All servers in the room stood up straight as soon as we were aware of her presence.
Kim stood tall with her nose held high.
She had a dominant wolf. An aura of power followed her wherever she went.
Just by looking at her, you could tell that she's not someone to be messed with.
"Why are you two busy talking?" Kim barked at Lily and I "There are guests out there to attend to"
"We're sorry, ma'am" we chorused.
"Mia" She called me "Where are you supposed to serve?"
"I finished serving the guests at section 4. I'm to serve the private area next"
The private area was where the Lycan king was. All servers had our sections divided for us to serve.
"Hell no, you're not" Kim said "The Alpha would have my head if he found out I let an omega serve the Lycan King. I'll do it myself. You can take the VIP section"
I was a bit scared when she said that.
High ranking wolves such as friends of the Alpha, the Beta, Gamma and other ranks were at that section. They were all snobs and could be mean when they wanted to.
I couldn't argue with her. I just hope they don't give me any trouble.
"Yes ma'am" I said.
"Back to work!" she barked at us "All of you!"
As soon as she said that, we all scurried to various places.
I took the specially made drinks by the bartender then made my way to the Vip section.
When I approached, the guards let open the velvet rope that guarded the entrance so I could pass through.
The bouncer who was dressed in a suit checked my name tag and the drinks I carried before letting me in.
As soon as I stepped inside, I was hit with the vibrant energy from the room.
People danced under the black and red lights.
The space was adorned with luxurious leather couches. Each seating area had its own table adorned with sophisticated glasses and expensive champagne.
The room was infused with loud music that blasted from huge speakers.
The bar situated at the left side of the room contained expensive drinks and custom cocktails. Gleaming bottles on the counter were illuminated by soft colored lights. Bartenders dressed in sleek suits poured drinks.
I made my way to the important table first. Here, we had three high ranking members: Nate, the Gamma, Bea, the Alpha's mistress and Madison, one of the Alpha's friends.
Bea is one of the most beautiful women I had ever laid my eyes on.
She had luscious blonde hair that fell to her back in deep waves. Her skin was so smooth. She had a gorgeous face and obvious curves.
It's not a shock that the Alpha would be interested in her.
She was from an elite family too.
I admired her silently.
Unfortunately, her eyes met mine. I looked down immediately, setting their drinks on the table.
"Did you just make eye contact with me?" she asked me.
I looked down "I'm sorry"
Madison was crouched down on the floor, doing a line of coke on the table.
She sniffed it all at one go. She let out a sigh of relief.
Madison laughed "This is some good shit right here!"
"Shut up, Maddy" Lizzy said "I'm saying something important"
"That's on you, princess"
Lizzy turned her attention back to me "Do you not know your place, omega?"
"I apologize. I was only admiring you"
Lizzy laughed "You hear that, Nate? She was admiring me. As if she has the right to"
Lizzy stood up and walked closer to me "The next time you look at me for longer than a second, I'll scratch your eyes out with my claws. Got it?"
I nodded "Yes ma'am. I'm sorry"
"Get lost"
As I turned to walk away, I hit something as hard as a wall.
I stepped back then that was when I realized it wasn't a wall.
I looked up to see Alpha Jax - The Alpha of the pack.
I could have melted right then and there. I've never had the opportunity to see him up close before.
As I locked eyes with him, sparks of electricity jolted through my veins. I felt a warmth round my body, enveloping me like a blanket.
I felt like we were the only ones in the room. I could feel a deep connection between us. I could feel it deep inside me.
My whole body awakened at the sight of him.
I felt alive.
I felt passionate about him.
I felt as if he was the missing piece to my puzzle.
My wolf, even in her weakened state came alive.
"This is the one" she whispered to me.
"Mate" Alpha Jax and I said at the same time.
