Elias’s POV

I should have been furious that Isabella had come.

Instead, I felt something close to relief. She was Nathan's Luna, round with his child, and she'd ridden eight days to drag her husband home by the collar. If anyone alive could make him think twice about what he was doing in my father's house, it was her.

But relief wasn't the only thing.

I had known Isabella for years. I knew the sweetness of her voice and the sharpness behind it. I knew how she smiled while she measured the weak

  • The Rejected Plus-Size Mate   Black Magic

Elara’s povBlack magic. The words hung over the table like smoke, and the blood left my face.I knew what they meant. Every child in every pack knew. The old laws were the same from the northern hills to the southern coast. A witch who bent the minds of the living, who twisted bonds with dark craft, was cast out beyond the borders or put to the sword. There was no trial. There was no appeal. Only the Alpha's word and the elders' vote. And I was sitting at that Alpha's table. My eyes flew to Elias's mother. She stood trembling, one finger leveled at my heart, her face blotched with righteous fury. But beneath the fury, I saw something else. A small, bright, calculating gleam. She means it.The earlier schemes had been pinpricks. The scissored gown, the rattling walls, the soldiers with torches. This was the blade. A single word, spoken in front of witnesses, in a house where the Alpha was her husband. If it stuck, I would not live to see the spring.Don't let it.I pulled my hand from

If anyone alive could make him think twice about what he was doing in my father's house, it was her.But relief wasn't the only thing.I had known Isabella for years. I knew the sweetness of her voice and the sharpness behind it. I knew how she smiled while she measured the weak spot in a room. She was the most conniving woman I had ever met, and now she stood in the middle of my entrance hall, weeping prettily into her husband's collar, with Elara watching from the stairs.*She'll make trouble,* I thought. *The moment she gets the chance.*I looked up at my wife.Elara stood with one hand on the banister. Her face was calm. Not stiff, not forced. Simply calm, as though a pregnant woman clinging to the man who had stared at her all night were a passing cart on the road

  • The Rejected Plus-Size Mate   I have a problem

Nathan’s POV She had smiled at me.It was a small thing, a flicker at the corner of her mouth, gone almost before I'd seen it. But I had carried it up the stairs like a lit candle, cupped in both hands, afraid to let the draft touch it.My face was hot. I pressed the back of my wrist to my cheek like a boy.*I stood beside her.* Every one of my men had drawn steel because I had. I had spoken in front of a queen and a hall full of strangers, and for once, *once,* I had said the right thing in the right place. Elara had looked at me and she hadn't looked away.It wasn't forgiveness. I knew that. But it was a crack in the wall, and I was a man who had spent a year pressing his ear to stone.I turned the corner into the east wing, humming under my breath. The humming stopped.A tall figure leaned against the frame of my door, arms folded, one boot crossed over the other. The corridor torch threw half his face into shadow. He didn't move when I approached. He simply watched me come.*Elia

  • The Rejected Plus-Size Mate   See her worth

Elara’s POV Steel glittered all around me.Royal guards on one side. Goldstone grey on the other. Elias's father's household men hovered in between, hands on hilts, not sure whom to stand with. The candles hissed. A dropped goblet rolled in slow circles across the floor.I stood in the middle of it with my cheek burning, and I did not move.Behind her brother's shoulder, Yvonne had gone small. She clutched his sleeve with both hands, peering out with red, swollen eyes like a child hiding behind a door. All that bravado, all that spite, and she couldn't bear to stand in front of the consequences."You brute," the prince snarled. His face was purple. "You ugly, stupid, prudish cow. Do you have any idea who you've struck?"I looked at him. Then I chuckled. It surprised him. I saw it. His mouth stayed open on the next insult."I know exactly who I've struck," I said. "A girl who's been dragged out of this house once already, and keeps crawling back. And you." I tilted my head. "You've be

  • The Rejected Plus-Size Mate   Retribution

Elara’s POV "Bless you, my lady."The old man caught my hand in both of his and pressed it to his forehead. His fingers trembled. A bowl of stew steamed in front of him, a hunk of bread tucked under his arm like treasure."It's only soup," I said gently."It's not the soup." He looked up, and his eyes were wet. "It's you. The healer from the ward. You set my daughter's leg, my lady. And you sat with my wife all night when she couldn't breathe.""I only did what anyone would.""No." He shook his head fiercely. "No one else did."I swallowed. I couldn't answer. I ladled another helping into the bowl of the woman behind him and turned to the next in line, and the next, and everywhere I looked, the same thing happened. They knew me. A boy with a bandaged hand tugged my sleeve to say thank you. A mother held up her baby so I could see that its fever had broken. A man I had never met whispered that I'd healed his brother, and his brother's wife, and that he would never forget it.They didn
