...

By the time Judith reached her eighth month of pregnancy, everyone had become paranoid.

Liam was paranoid.

Her mother was paranoid.

Julian was beyond paranoid.

At one point, Judith sneezed and three people asked if she needed a doctor.

It was ridiculous, completely ridiculous.

Unfortunately, nobody listened when she pointed that out.

One Friday evening, Judith was leaving Lux Group headquarters after a long meeting when her phone rang.

Liam.

She smiled before answering.

That was becoming a problem.

A very serious problem.

"Hello."

"Are you still at work?"

His tone immediately made her roll her eyes.

"Don't start."

"I'm not starting."

"You are."

"I'm simply asking a question."

"That sounds suspicious."

Liam laughed.

The sound sent an annoying warmth through her chest.

"Judith."

"What?"

"Go home."

She walked toward the elevator.

"I am going home."

"Good."

A pause.

Then.....

"Text me when you get there."

She smiled despite herself.

"You're becoming unbearable."

"Noted."

The elevator doors opened.

The call ended shortly afterward.

Judith never got the chance to send that text.

Because halfway to the parking garage, everything went wrong.

A sharp pain hit her stomach.

So sudden she stopped walking.

Her breath caught.

For a moment she remained frozen.

Then another pain followed.

Stronger, much stronger.

Fear immediately settled in her chest.

Not because she didn't know what contractions were.

Because she did.

And she knew it was too early.

Way too early.

Judith reached for her phone.

Her hands were shaking.

The first number she called wasn't her mother.

Or Ava.

Or Julian.

It was Liam.

The call connected instantly.

"Judith?"

The moment he heard her breathing, his voice changed.

"What happened?"

For the first time in months, she sounded frightened.

"Liam..."

His heart dropped.

Immediately.

"Where are you?"

"I think..."

Another contraction interrupted her.

Pain flashed across her face.

"I think something's wrong."

The world seemed to stop.

Liam was already grabbing his keys before she finished speaking.

"I'm coming."

"Liam—"

"I'm coming."

The line disconnected.

Across the city, Liam broke more traffic laws in fifteen minutes than he had in the previous ten years.

Nothing else mattered.

Nothing.

Not meetings.

Not business.

Not consequences.

Only Judith.

Only the baby.

When he arrived at the parking garage, he spotted her immediately.

She was sitting on a bench.

One hand on her stomach.

Trying very hard not to panic.

The moment she saw him, relief flooded her expression.

And something inside Liam nearly broke.

Because she had called him.

Him.

Not anyone else.

Him.

He was beside her seconds later.

"Look at me."

Judith lifted her eyes.

"You and the baby are going to be okay."

The confidence in his voice sounded absolute and unshakable.

Even though inside he was terrified.

Together they rushed to the hospital.

The next few hours became a blur.

Doctors.

Tests.

Nurses.

Questions.

Waiting.

Endless waiting.

Family members arrived one after another.

Eleanor.

Richard.

Julian.

Ava.

Even Ethan.

The waiting room slowly filled.

Nobody spoke much.

Everyone was worried.

Liam paced continuously.

Back and forth.

Back and forth.

Back and forth.

Julian watched him for several minutes before finally speaking.

"Sit down."

Liam ignored him.

"Smith."

Still nothing.

Julian sighed.

Then something surprising happened.

He stood.

Walked over.

And placed a hand on Liam's shoulder.

Liam froze.

The gesture shocked both of them.

"You'll wear a hole in the floor."

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Liam laughed weakly.

The first laugh he'd managed all night.

Hours later, a doctor finally appeared.

Everyone stood instantly.

"How is she?"

The question came from at least four different people.

The doctor smiled reassuringly.

"Mother and baby are fine."

Relief hit the room so hard it was almost physical.

Several people sat down immediately.

Ava actually started crying.

Then denied it.

Repeatedly.

The doctor continued.

"It wasn't labor."

Every person in the room visibly relaxed.

"However..."

The word immediately ruined everything.

Liam felt his stomach drop.

The doctor smiled.

"It's time for her to stop working."

Julian looked victorious.

Absolutely victorious.

"I've been saying that."

Nobody cared.

Because Judith was okay.

The baby was okay.

That was all that mattered.

An hour later, Liam was finally allowed into her room.

The lights were dim.

The room was quiet.

Judith looked exhausted.

But she smiled when she saw him.

That smile alone made the worst night of his life feel bearable.

"You look awful."

Liam laughed.

"So do you."

"Rude."

"Accurate."

For several moments they simply looked at each other.

No jokes.

No distractions.

Just relief.

Then Judith's expression softened.

"Thank you."

Liam frowned.

"For what?"

"For coming."

The answer surprised him.

Because from his perspective, there had never been a choice.

Never.

He moved closer to the bed.

Then gently brushed a strand of hair from her face.

The gesture was instinctive.

Natural.

Intimate.

"I'll always come."

The words settled between them.

Simple.

Honest.

Absolute.

Judith felt tears sting her eyes.

Because she believed him.

Completely.

Without hesitation.

And maybe that was what finally changed everything.

Not the months they'd spent rebuilding trust.

This.

Knowing that if she needed him, he would come.

Every time.

Without question.

Without hesitation.

Without fail.

For the first time since their divorce, Judith realized she wasn't afraid anymore.

And that realization terrified her far less than it should have.

Forever, This Time...Three Months LaterThe Smith mansion had never been this noisy. Not because of business meetings. Not because of family gatherings. Not because of corporate events.Because of one tiny baby girl.Liam stood in the nursery holding his daughter while she stared at him with wide, curious eyes."You know," he said seriously, "your mother is unreasonable."The baby blinked.Clearly listening."She says I can't buy you a pony."The baby made a small sound.Liam nodded."Exactly."The nursery door opened.Judith walked in."Who are you conspiring with?"Liam immediately looked innocent."Nobody."Their daughter chose that exact moment to squeal.Judith crossed her arms."She's definitely your daughter.""Because she's adorable?""Because she's helping you lie."Liam grinned.Three months into parenthood, he was still ridiculously obsessed with their daughter. Not that Judith was any better. The only difference was that she pretended to be rational.Liam didn't bother pr

Welcome to the World.....By four o'clock in the morning, Judith had officially decided that childbirth was a terrible idea.A truly terrible idea. The fact that it was too late to change her mind only made things worse."Liam."He immediately looked up from beside the hospital bed."Yeah?""This is your fault."Liam blinked. The nurse laughed. The doctor laughed.Even Judith looked like she knew the accusation made no sense.Unfortunately for Liam, logic wasn't particularly useful at that moment."I'm sorry.""You should be."Another contraction hit before she could continue.Judith grabbed his hand so hard he was fairly certain she was testing the limits of human bone strength. When it finally passed, she released him and took a slow breath.Liam looked at his hand. Then at her. Then back at his hand."I think that's the third time you've almost broken my fingers.""You'll survive."The nurse nodded."You'll definitely survive."Liam was beginning to suspect nobody in the room respe

The Worst Day to Go Into Labor...Judith was thirty-six weeks pregnant when she decided she was perfectly capable of attending a board meeting.Everyone else disagreed.Especially Liam."You're not going."Judith looked up from her breakfast."Watch me."Liam sighed. They were sitting in the dining room of the Lux estate, where he had somehow become a permanent fixture. At this point, nobody questioned it anymore.Even Julian had stopped complaining.Mostly."You were in the hospital three weeks ago.""I was fine.""The doctor said rest.""The doctor also said I could move around.""Not for twelve-hour meetings."Judith ignored him and continued eating.Across the table, Eleanor quietly moved her chair farther away.Richard did the same.Years of marriage had taught them when an argument was about to happen. And when survival required distance."I'll only be there for a few hours."Liam gave her a look. The kind that clearly said he didn't believe a word she was saying.Unfortunately,

The next few weeks went by surprisingly fast.Judith was now officially forbidden from going to the office unless absolutely necessary, which meant she spent most of her time working from home and complaining about it.Nobody sympathized.Especially not Liam."I'm bored."Liam glanced up from his laptop. They were sitting in the library at the Lux estate, both supposedly working."That's unfortunate."Judith narrowed her eyes."You don't care.""I care deeply.""You don't sound like it."Liam smiled without looking up."I've heard this exact complaint seventeen times this week.""You're exaggerating.""It was nineteen."Judith grabbed a cushion and threw it at him.Unfortunately, she missed.Liam looked far too pleased with himself. Before she could launch a second attack, her phone rang. She glanced at the screen. Her mother.Immediately suspicious."Hello?""Don't make plans for Saturday."Judith frowned."What plans?""You don't need to know."That was never a good sign."Mom.""Sa

Getting back together was surprisingly anticlimactic. There were no headlines. No dramatic announcements. No grand gestures. One day Judith and Liam were divorced people trying to co-parent, and the next they were somehow acting like a married couple again. The only difference was that this time they actually talked to each other.A lot.Three days after their conversation in the garden, Judith was sitting in the living room when Ava stormed into the house."Is it true?"Judith didn't even look up from her book."Good afternoon, Ava.""It's true."Judith sighed."Who told you?""Liam."That made her look up."He told you?"Ava looked deeply offended."Do you know how long I've been waiting for this?"Before Judith could respond, Ava threw herself onto the couch."I deserve compensation.""For what?""For emotional damages.""You weren't emotionally damaged.""I absolutely was."Judith laughed. For the first time in a long while, the future didn't feel complicated. It felt normal. And

The Answer....Judith barely slept that night. Not because she didn't know what she wanted. The problem was that she did.For years, she had imagined Liam standing in front of her and telling her he loved her. She had imagined him fighting for her, choosing her, seeing her.Now that it had happened, she couldn't stop thinking about everything that came with it.Love wasn't the issue.Trust was.Liam had spent months proving he had changed, but part of her still remembered the woman who used to sit alone at dinner while her husband worked late. The woman who waited for calls that never came. The woman who convinced herself that being lonely was normal.By the time the sun rose, Judith was still awake. And exhausted.Around eight o'clock, there was a knock on her bedroom door. Before she could answer, Ava walked in carrying coffee and a bag of pastries."You look terrible.""Good morning to you too."Ava sat down on the bed."You didn't sleep."Judith groaned."Is it that obvious?""You
