FAZER LOGINEliana POV
Two years had passed since that awful birthday night when Eliana's world shattered, and every single day since had been a living nightmare. The morning after she was forced to accept Silas's rejection in front of the entire pack, she was thrown out of the main house. Her comfortable room, soft dresses, and special status vanished overnight. She was moved to the cold, cramped Omega quarters at the edge of the pack territory and assigned the lowest jobs in the pack: scrubbing floors, washing clothes, and cleaning up after everyone else. She was no longer Alpha Marcus's adopted daughter. She was just Eliana the Omega. "Hey! Orphan! Are you deaf?" A heavy wooden bucket slammed onto the stone floor right next to Eliana's feet, splashing soapy water all over her worn leather boots. Eliana wiped a streak of sweat from her forehead and looked up. Standing over her was Brenda, one of the senior cooks, her hands resting on her hips with a sneer. "I asked for those vegetables chopped ten minutes ago," Brenda snapped, pointing a thick finger at the cutting board. "What are you doing sitting around like a princess? Do you think because late Alpha Marcus brought you home, you get to slack off?" "I'm not slacking off, Brenda," Eliana said quietly, keeping her voice even as she picked up the kitchen knife. "I just finished scrubbing the main hall floor like you told me to." "Well, work faster!" another Omega named Thomas called out from across the room, tossing a pile of filthy aprons into her lap. "Add these to your laundry list. And make sure they're washed before sunset, or I'll tell the Beta you were lazy again." Eliana swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded. "I'll get it done." It was like this every day. The same lower-ranking pack members who used to smile at her and compliment her silver dress now took pleasure in pushing her around. They wanted to prove that she was beneath them now. Eliana kept her head down and chopped the vegetables quickly. She had learned over the last two years that speaking back only made the chores and the cruelty worse. Suddenly, the kitchen doors swung open, and the room went completely quiet. "Attention!" a guard called out. "Lady Lyra is in the courtyard!" Every Omega in the kitchen immediately put down their work, scrambled out the side doors, and lined up near the stone steps. Eliana stood at the end of the line, holding her breath. Through the grand iron gates came Silas and Lyra. Silas looked broader and more commanding than he had two years ago. He wore a dark jacket with the Alpha crest embroidered in silver. Walking closely beside him, her arm wrapped tightly around his, was Lyra. She was draped in a fine fur coat, her gold jewelry catching the morning sun. Over the past two years, Silas and Lyra were inseparable. They paraded their relationship across the pack territory, making sure everyone knew Lyra was the undisputed future Luna. Silas was whispering something into Lyra's ear, making her laugh loudly. But as they walked past the line of bowing Omegas, Lyra stopped dead in her tracks right in front of Eliana. Silas paused too, his dark eyes briefly sweeping over Eliana's faded brown tunic and mud-stained hands before turning cold and unreadable. "Well, well," Lyra said, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. "Look at our little birthday girl." Eliana kept her eyes fixed on the dirt floor, refusing to give Lyra the satisfaction of a reaction. "Lady Lyra. Alpha Silas." "Look at me when I speak to you, orphan," Lyra commanded sharply. Eliana slowly raised her head, meeting Lyra's arrogant smirk. Lyra reached out with a manicured finger and tipped Eliana's chin up, inspecting her face like she was looking at a stray dog. "You know, Silas," Lyra cooed, turning her head to look at him, "I was thinking the grand hall floors looked a bit dusty this morning. I think Eliana should scrub them again tonight before our dinner party." "She already scrubbed them this morning, Lyra," Silas said, his voice flat. "And?" Lyra pouted, tightening her grip on Silas's arm. "I want them spotless for our guests. Unless... you still feel sorry for her?" Eliana's chest tightened as she looked at Silas, waiting to see if a single drop of humanity remained in him. Silas didn't even blink. He looked straight past Eliana, his voice cold as ice. "Do as Lady Lyra says, Eliana. Make sure the hall is ready by eight." "Yes, Alpha," Eliana whispered, her fist clenching tight at her side. Lyra smirked, thoroughly satisfied. She pulled out a delicate silk handkerchief, wiped the dust off her shoe, and carelessly dropped the dirty cloth right onto Eliana's chest. "Clean my slippers while you're at it," Lyra said with a cruel laugh, turning back toward the main house. "Come on, my love. We have a party to plan." Silas let Lyra pull him away, walking up the grand stairs without looking back once. Eliana stood alone in the dirt, watching them disappear into the main house. Around her, the other Omegas began to giggle and whisper to each other, clearly enjoying her humiliation. Brenda smirked and tossed another dirty rag near Eliana's feet before turning back toward the kitchen. Eliana slowly picked up the silk cloth, her chest aching with a familiar, heavy emptiness. She looked past the grand stone walls of the mansion, staring toward the dark pine trees of the forest that surrounded the pack territory. A desperate wish rose deep in her heart—a wish to just run into those woods and never look back. She wanted to escape. She wanted to leave this place so badly it made her throat tight. But where could she go? This pack was the only world she knew. She had no memory of where she came from before the age of eight. Her early childhood was nothing more than broken, scattered pieces in her mind—faint flashes of a voice she couldn't recognize and places she couldn't name. Alpha Marcus had been her entire world, and the Moonstone Pack was the only home she remembered living in. Beyond their borders, she had no family, no friends, and nowhere to run. Eliana squeezed her eyes shut, taking a shaky breath to hold back her tears. She smoothed down her worn apron, turned away from the grand stairs, and headed back toward the cold, noisy kitchen. She was trapped in the only home she had ever known, praying for a way out.Valerius POV Valerius watched Eliana set her fork down. She had barely touched the chicken—eating only a small piece of toast and taking tiny sips of her tea.He glanced at the small white dish on the wooden tray, where the pieces of dark chocolate were still untouched."You haven't tried the chocolate," Valerius said, his voice soft in the quiet room.Eliana looked at the dish, her fingers fidgeting with the silk blanket. She hesitated, looking uncertain, as if asking permission to take a piece was a test she might fail.Seeing her reluctance, Valerius picked up a piece of the dark chocolate between his fingers. He leaned back in his chair and looked at her, a playful glint in his eye."Do I need to feed it to you?" he asked, keeping his tone light and teasing to bring a smile to her face.Eliana’s eyes went wide. Instantly, a deep, burning blush spread across her cheeks, rushing all the way down her neck. She quickly snatched a piece of chocolate from the tray herself and popped it
Eliana's POV He had taken off his heavy dark coat, wearing only a plain black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He looked big and strong in the small room. In his hand, he carried a wooden tray with a clean white cloth. Steam rose from a teapot and a covered plate. The moment Eliana saw his face, her heart jumped into her throat. The picture of him coming close to kiss her in the dream flashed right in front of her eyes, and her cheeks turned hot all over again. She quickly looked down at the soft blanket, unable to look him in the eye.Valerius stopped near the door, looking at her sitting up in the big bed. He saw how she moved back slightly, her hands holding the blanket tightly, and the red blush spreading over her face and neck.He pulled his eyebrows together a little bit, looking worried. He thought her red face meant she was sick or had a fever from the long trip."Eliana?" Valerius asked gently, closing the door behind him and walking slowly toward the bed so h
Eliana POV The cold was the first thing Eliana felt.In her dream, she stood alone in a big white field filled with heavy snow. Big trees stretched up into a dark gray sky, their branches weighed down by white frost. The wind blew softly, biting at her bare arms and making her shiver. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to keep warm, but the cold went straight to her bones. Then, she heard heavy footsteps walking in the snow. She turned around and saw Valerius walking toward her. He was not wearing his heavy dark traveling coat. Instead, he wore a simple, warm sweater that made him look soft and friendly. In his hand, he held a big ceramic mug. White steam rose into the cold air, carrying the rich, sweet smell of hot coffee. He stopped right in front of her, his dark eyes filled with a gentle warmth that seemed to push the cold away."You look so cold, Eliana," he said softly, his deep voice sounding like a warm blanket. Before she could answer, the cold field seemed to vanis
Valerius POV The car door clicked shut, blocking out the cold morning air of the Moonstone territory.Valerius sat back into the soft leather seat as the engine started up. Beside him, Eliana sat as still as a statue. She pressed herself far into the corner, her hands folded tightly in her lap. She kept her head down so low that her long hair fell forward, hiding her face. The car began to move, rolling smoothly down the road.Valerius watched her out of the corner of his eye. Seeing her try to make herself as small as possible made his stomach twist. She looked like a scared animal waiting to be hit.He wanted to reach out, stroke her hair, and tell her she was okay. But he knew better. To her, he was just a scary stranger from the North.Be patient, he told himself. Take it slow."The drive to the border will take a few hours," Valerius said, keeping his voice soft and quiet. "Are you comfortable, Eliana?""Yes," she whispered to her lap."You can turn on the seat warmer if you are
Valerius POV Valerius stood near the large wooden front doors, dressed in his heavy northern traveling furs. Commander Vance stood beside him, keeping his polished, diplomatic smile while Alpha Silas and Lady Lyra stood a few steps away."We are deeply grateful for your hospitality, Alpha Silas," Commander Vance spoke smooth political words, acting as the public voice of their delegation. "And we thank you for extending your friendship by allowing your omega to assist our staff. We trust this is the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship between our packs."Alpha Silas barely gave a tight nod. His jaw was clenched, his expression hard and unreadable as he stared toward the hallway stairs.Right on cue, Lady Lyra spoke up with a forced smile. "Ah, here she is now."Eliana walked into the entryway, carrying a single, worn canvas bag over her shoulder. She kept her head down, her movements quiet and small as if trying to make herself invisible. Before anyone could move, Alpha S
Eliana POV Early the next morning, before the sun was fully up, Eliana stood in her small basement room. She looked around at the cold stone walls and the thin mattress. There was almost nothing here that belonged to her. The pack gave her the few worn dresses she wore, and she had no money or valuable things. Her eyes fell on a small wooden box sitting on the table. It was the only thing she truly owned. The former Alpha—Silas's father—had given it to her on her twelfth birthday back when she still lived upstairs. He had handed her a beautiful hairpin with a crest carved into it, telling her it was the only thing left from the parents she could no longer remember.Eliana opened the lid and looked inside. Alongside the hairpin lay a small polished river stone Silas had given her when they were children - long before he became Alpha and rejected her, a picture of herself, Alpha Marcus and Silas, the hairpin the alpha had given to her on her thirteenth birthday and told her it belonged
