Selena POV

“…cannot keep doing this.” I froze instantly as the voice belonged to my father’s Beta.

Another voice answered sharply. My Father’s.

My chest tightened slightly knowing that they were arguing.I stepped closer to the door without thinking.

“You think I enjoy it?” Father snapped.

“What I think,” the Beta replied bitterly, “is that I’m tired of selling our women like livestock.”

I stopped breathing at the word selling. Confusion swirled through my head.

Father lowered his voice, but I still heard him clearly. “It keeps the vampires away from our borders.”

A chill spread through my entire body. No. That couldn’t be what he meant.

“The next batch leaves tomorrow night,” the Beta muttered.

Batch?Fear slowly began creeping into my chest. My mind struggled to understand the conversation happening beyond the door.

Then the Beta spoke again. “And Selena?”

Silence followed briefly as my heartbeat became painfully loud.

“She was promised years ago,” Father finally answered.

The world around me seemed to tilt violently.

“What?” the Beta hissed. “She’s your daughter.”

“She belongs to the agreement.”

My hand flew to my mouth. No. No, no, no—

“The high lord specifically requested her since birth,” Father continued heavily.

Terror crashed into me so suddenly my knees nearly gave out. I couldn’t breathe. A vampire lord? Me?

I just celebrated my Eighteenth birthday!!!

The Beta cursed under his breath. “You’re truly sending her with the others?”

Father didn’t answer immediately. But eventually— “Yes.”

The single word shattered something inside me. I stumbled backward silently, tears burning my eyes.

All those girls who disappeared over the years…They hadn’t left to marry wolves from other packs like I was told by my father.

They had been sold to vampires and tomorrow night, I would be one of them.

Footsteps suddenly approached from inside the office. Panic jolted through me and I quickly hid behind one of the stone pillars just as the office door opened.

Father and the Beta stepped into the corridor.“She must never know,” Father said quietly.

My chest hurt so badly I thought I might scream as I watched the two men walk away.

I remained frozen behind the pillar until their footsteps disappeared completely. Then slowly, I stepped into Father’s office.

The room suddenly felt unfamiliar and cold.

My gaze landed on my mother’s painting hanging behind the desk. I stared at it through blurred vision.

‘Did he truly love her? Did he truly love me? Or had he spent my entire life preparing me for this?’

A sob escaped my throat then my eyes fell on the large ledger resting on the desk. I remembered seeing Father write in it many times before.

Slowly, I opened it and my stomach twisted instantly. There were names, ages, dates and trade records of girls from different packs.

I felt sick seeing this was real. All of it.

My breathing turned shaky as I grabbed the ledger quickly. Then I snatched Father’s spare cloak hanging nearby and hurried from the office.

I didn’t think anymore.I just ran.

Rain soaked me the moment I stepped outside the castle. The cold wind whipped against my face as I rushed toward the stables.

My hands trembled while preparing one of the horses. “I need to hurry,” I whispered desperately.

Within moments, I climbed onto the horse and rode into the storm. Away from Nightbane, away from my father and away from the fate waiting for me.

Rain lashed painfully against my skin as the horse raced through muddy paths and dark woods. Tears blurred my vision the entire time.

Every memory hurts now.Every smile, every embrace and every moment Father told me he loved me. Had all of it been a lie?

I crossed the pack borders sometime before dawn but still didn’t stop.

Eventually, the forest ahead became too thick for the horse to move through properly. I climbed down shakily and began leading the animal on foot instead.

Thunder cracked loudly overhead.

My thoughts spun endlessly until suddenly— A growl echoed through the trees.

I froze as another growl answered from somewhere behind me and fear shot through my body instantly.

Shadows moved between the trees then men slowly emerged from the darkness surrounding me. Their clothes were torn, their eyes wild, their teeth bared viciously.

Rogues.

One of them snarled at me hungrily. Another circled toward my side, snapping his teeth.

The horse panicked beside me as the rogues closed in on us.

Kael POVThe window exploded inward as glass shattered across the infirmary like a storm of crystal knives. My instincts took over before my mind could catch up as I lunged across the bed and threw myself over Selena.A sharp sting ripped across my shoulder and back as fragments of glass buried themselves into my skin, but I barely felt it.All I cared about was covering and protecting her.Selena gasped beneath me. “Kael—” I immediately clamped a hand over her mouth making her eyes widened. Not because I was hurting her. I just wanted her to understand that someone was here. Someone dangerous.Across the room, Beta Bastien had already rolled behind a heavy shelf, his sword drawn out.The room went too silent as my ears strained to listen to sounds .I kept waiting, then I heard more fast and light footsteps moving across the roof above us.I was very sure these were Assassins, not warriors or rogues. My jaw tightened on remembering the councilman's warnings. Councilman Cedric had be

Selena POV“Stop right there.” My voice came out sharper than I expected.Grengy only smiled but not a normal smile. It was the kind that made my skin crawl. The kind that told me he was enjoying every second of this. The lantern hanging from the wall cast strange shadows across his bruised face, making him look even uglier than usual.“You still don’t know when to keep that mouth shut, do you, kid?” he asked and I took a step backward while my eyes darted around the room. The Three men, one holding Sally with a knife pressed against her throat while the other two stood near the door and Grengy slowly advancing toward me.Marqee suddenly stirred from her bed as she sat upright sleepily. “What is all this noise—”The moment she saw the knife against Sally’s throat, she gasped. “Oh Moon Goddess—”“Quiet!” The man holding Sally snarled as his blade dug slightly into Sally’s neck making her flinched.Marqee immediately covered her mouth as the room fell silent while My heart hammered insi

Selena POVI narrowed my eyes as I watched Sally disappear around the corner. The corridor was dimly lit by lanterns hanging from the stone walls, making it easier for her to move unnoticed. If I had not been paying attention, I would have missed her entirely. But I had been paying attention. Ever since I saw her sneaking away with that pouch earlier, something had felt off.Marqee would probably tell me to mind my business but unfortunately, that had never been one of my strengths.I carefully followed behind Sally, keeping enough distance so she would not hear my footsteps. The castle was quieter than usual at that hour. Most servants had already returned to their quarters while the guards remained stationed at key points throughout the estate.Sally moved too quickly like someone who had always done this before.I turned another corner after her and then I froze as a figure stepped into my path. Actually, two figures. The first one immediately made me groan internally as it was the

Kael POVThe moment Alpha William walked into the antechamber, I felt my mood worsen.Wonderful! Just when I thought my day could not become any more irritating. The familiar scent reached me before the man himself did. He stepped into the room with four warriors behind him, carrying himself with that same confidence that had made lesser Alphas fear him and made me want to punch him in the throat. For a few moments, neither of us spoke. We simply glared at each other and the room seemed to grow quieter around us.Even Councilman Cedric, who never seemed capable of shutting his mouth for more than a minute, wisely remained silent.Alpha William’s gaze settled on me as mine settled on him.The old bastard smiled first and called out, “Alpha Kael.”His voice was smooth and pleasant to others who didn’t know him. But it’s mainly a lie. Everything about that man was a lie.I leaned back in my chair and reciprocated by calling out too, “Alpha William.”His smile widened slightly. “I must ad

Kael POVMy carriage rolled through the iron gates of the Council Estate just after midday. The sprawling property sat at the center of the realm like a crown jewel, untouched by wars, rivalries, and the countless disputes that tore packs apart every year. Ancient stone walls surrounded the estate, while towering silverwood trees lined the roads leading toward the Great Council Court.I stared out the carriage window with little admiration. I had never liked this place. The Council talked… I acted. That was the difference between us.The carriage slowed before the main courtyard. “Alpha,” the rider called mainly to inform me that we’ve arrived.I pushed the door open and stepped down. Immediately, dozens of eyes shifted toward me.The guards, the servants, the messengers, the visitors… Every one of them were intently watching me.I was used to being watched and stared at.Some looked at me with respect, others with suspicion, a few with outright dislike and my reputation tended to prov

  • The Rival Alpha Forbidden Luna   Chapter 14

Selena POVI could barely focus on scrubbing the wooden counters in front of me as my thoughts had been trapped in the Council meeting since morning.Every possible outcome kept replaying in my mind over and over again until I felt like screaming.“What if Father discovered I was in Blackbourne? What if Alpha Kael decided to provoke him and revealed it himself?”The man was unpredictable enough to do something reckless simply because his pride demanded it and worse— “What if they fought?”I gritted my teeth as different thoughts kept replaying in my head and I dipped the cloth back into the bucket of water.I hated the fact that I was worried about Alpha Kael. I truly hated it but no matter how much he irritated me, I still knew one thing. My father was dangerous. Very dangerous.People spoke of Alpha William’s strength like legends around fires.Even when I was little, I remembered seeing warriors tremble after training sessions with him. I remembered hearing stories of how he subdue
