Aria’s POV

I ran the comb continuously through my hair while I stared at the mirror.

My reflection was showing a calm, normal girl who’s preparing for her regular day. But my insides were too chaotic and far from normal.

I was back at my Father’s house after giving away my virginity to a random stranger in the woods.

I came home first thing at dawn. The stranger was still asleep when I left. I returned home unnoticed and I’ve been hiding out in my room all morning. Not because I was terrified that my Father would scold me for disappearing last night.

But because I fear he might see through me. Just one glance at me and he might figure out what I did last night. That’s what scares me. That’s why I didn’t go out for breakfast.

The sudden knock on my door made my heart almost jump out of my skin. I pray that’s not Father.

“Aria! Open up!”

Ivy. What does she want?

And just like that, the painful memories of last night came running back into my mind. I still can’t believe I caught her having sex with my boyfriend. And even worse, that they’re both fated mates. That still feels like a dream. A real nightmare.

The ache in my heart returned instantly. The harsh reminder that I got brutally betrayed by the two people I cared about the most.

“Aria!”

I swallowed a deep breath. Took a couple of more breaths before going to unlock my door. She was dressed in a blue dress, looking very radiant and sexy. A slim beauty. Unlike me, who’s unattractively chubby.

“How long does it take to open a door?!” She yelled in my face. She pushed me aside and stepped inside.

I shut the door and turned around. “What do you want?” I asked dryly, crossing my arms around my chest. But God, my insides were shattering. I can’t even be mean to her.

After what she did to me, I still can’t bring myself to hate her. If she apologizes to me right now, I fear I would actually forgive her. And that makes me feel even more miserable; the fact that I suck at holding grudges.

“Where did you go last night? Father wouldn’t stop asking me about you. Like I was your chaperone or something.” She scoffed, playing with her hair.

“None of your business,” I replied, going back to the mirror to continue brushing my hair. This time, seeing my reflection broke my heart. Because tears were lingering in my eyes.

“Father already knows about Jaxon and me. And guess what? He’s not mad at us. Matter of fact, he gave us his blessings!” She squealed dramatically, dropping onto my bed.

I took a deep, shaky breath. I’m not gonna cry. Don’t you dare cry, Aria.

“Congratulations,” I said, wishing we’d end this conversation. It was clear she wanted to torture me even more. But why? She already has Jaxon. She won. Why doesn’t she just leave me alone?

“Thank you, dearest Sister.” She grinned dramatically. “But why does it feel like you’re not sincere about it?”

“Ivy,” I breathed out, briefly shutting my eyes. “Would you please go play somewhere else? I really don’t have the time for this.”

“Oh, you’re such a bore.” She scoffed and got off my bed. I waited for the door to open and for her footsteps to follow. But none of that happened.

I couldn’t see her reflection in the mirror. So I turned around and found her scrutinizing my back.

“What is it?” I asked defensively.

“No, wait. Stay that way.” She turned me around and gasped. “What the hell is that?!”

“What?” I asked nervously, trying to see my back through the mirror. My eyes widened as the reddened, zigzag mark lay a little below my shoulder blades.

What is that?

“Did you get marked?” She asked in astonishment. “You’ve found your mate?”

“Marked? No. I didn’t.” I shook my head vigorously. “Maybe I got scratched by something…or someone.”

“Girl, be for real. That’s not an ordinary scratch. Look at this.” She shoved down her blouse and showed me a mark around her nape. “See that? Jaxon gave it to me last night.”

For a second, my heart hurt knowing he already marked her. That means they’re never breaking apart and he’s never leaving her.

“Except mine doesn’t look as wild as yours.” She added cautiously, “It’s like you got marked by some beast.”

“What beast? Stop that.” I snapped, pushing her off me. My heart was pounding heavily and guiltily. She was making it all worse with her nosy scrutiny.

She squinted her eyes. “Where did you go last night, sister? What wild escapade did you get involved in?”

“Not…nothing.” I stuttered, tears welling up in my eyes.

She scoffed, shaking her head. “And I thought I was the wild one. But look at you.  Just one night of being single, you already got involved with someone else.”

“No. I didn’t. It’s not what you think…”

“If you’re not gonna tell me who he is, then I’m pretty sure you’re gonna tell Father.”

“No, Ivy please!” I grabbed her hand but she pulled her hand out of my grip and ran out of the room.

I held my breath, staring at my reflection. I turned around to stare at the mark. The door opened just at the same time, and I gasped as Father’s reflection stared in the mirror.

I tried turning around but his growl kept me still.

“Don’t move!”

I sucked in a sob. “Yes, Sir.”

I could see he was staring at the mark. And then he hissed. “Who is he? And you better not lie to me, or I’m gonna disown you right now. What bastard did that to you?!”

“I…I don’t know him. I met him in the woods.”

Father’s eyes held so much rage and wrath, that I feared he would come over and strangle me.

I let out a sigh of relief when he turned around and left.

“You’re such a whore,” Ivy snorted and left too, banging the door.

My legs got weak and I slumped to the floor, bawling my eyes out.

What’s gonna happen to me?

AUTHOR’S POV“Get your filthy mouth off me!”Aria shrieked, violently shoving her gloved hands against Jacob’s bare, muscular chest. She tore her lips away from his, panting heavily. The freezing winter wind whipped her brown hair across her flushed face, but the cold did absolutely nothing to cool the boiling heat radiating between them.“You tasted perfectly fine kissing me back, Aria,” Jacob chuckled darkly. He wiped a thin string of saliva from his bottom lip with the back of his hand, his pitch-black eyes gleaming with absolute triumph.“I did not kiss you back!” she screamed, taking a staggering step backward into the deep snow. “You forced yourself on me! You are an animal!”“Liar,” Jacob taunted, taking a slow, predatory step forward. “I felt your tongue. I felt your hands clutching my shoulders. You melted.”“I slipped!” she yelled, her chest heaving rapidly. “I lost my balance! I would rather kiss a feral rogue than press my lips against a murderer’s mouth ever again!”“Keep

JACOBI hid around for a few minutes before I decided to scare her a bit. I wanted to see how strong she could get before breaking and begging.“Leave me alone!”Aria shrieked at the top of her lungs, grabbing a massive handful of snow and throwing it directly at my face. The white powder hit my snout with a soft thud. I did not even blink. Instead, I let out a loud, rumbling sneeze that blew the heavy winter hood right off her head. Her long brown hair whipped wildly around her face in the freezing wind.Sitting in front of her hiding spot in my massive Lycan wolf form, I simply tilted my head. I let my tongue loll out of my mouth, panting a thick cloud of white steam into the freezing air.“Go away!” she screamed again, kicking her heavy boot at my massive silver paw.I easily pulled my paw back an inch. Her boot hit absolutely nothing but empty air. Losing her balance, she slipped on the icy ground and landed right on her backside with a heavy thud.A low, vibrating chuff of laught

JACOB“Alpha! She is gone!”Elias slammed my office doors wide open, his face pale and dripping with cold sweat. He held out a silver object in his shaking hand, clutching it like a death sentence.“Calm down, Elias,” I said smoothly, leaning back in my leather chair. I slowly set down my pen, not a single muscle in my face twitching with surprise.“She took the master map from Room 402, sir!” Elias shouted, his voice cracking with pure panic. “She tricked Martha, slipped past the perimeter shift change, and scaled the old armory roof! We found Alpha Richie's pack lighter buried in the snowdrift right below the outer fence!”A slow, dark smile stretched across my face.“I know,” I stated flatly.Elias blinked, his jaw dropping open in utter disbelief. “You... you know? Alpha, she escaped into a raging blizzard! She has a twenty-minute head start!”“Did you honestly think she outsmarted my entire guard rotation, Elias?” I chuckled, standing up from behind my heavy mahogany desk. “Did y

ARIATucking the final piece of dried beef into my small satchel, my heart hammered a frantic rhythm against my ribs. Preparation was complete. Hiding the stolen goods under the loose floorboard beneath my bed, everything was perfectly set for tonight's escape.Just as my fingers brushed the edge of the heavy rug to cover the hiding spot, three sharp knocks vibrated through the bedroom door."Miss Aria?" Cora called out from the hallway.Standing up quickly, I smoothed down my skirt and took a deep breath. "What is it, Cora?""You have a visitor in the main parlor," the maid replied through the thick wood. "General Elias, the King's head secretary, is requesting your immediate presence."A cold spike of pure dread stabbed my stomach. Elias was looking for the map."Tell him I will be right there," I answered, forcing my voice to sound perfectly calm.Quickly checking the mirror to ensure I looked completely unbothered, I walked out of the bedroom. Stepping into the parlor, I found Gen

ARIA I had barely slept a wink last night. My tired mind spent the entire night tracing hidden mountain passes and memorizing the intricate guard rotations drawn in black ink.A sharp, sudden knock echoed loudly through the quiet room."Miss Aria?" Cora called out from the hallway. "Breakfast is ready. The Alpha requested that you join the table immediately.""I will be right out," I replied, grabbing a dark grey sweater from the wooden closet and pulling it over my head.Walking down the long stone corridor with the muscular maid trailing closely behind me, my stomach tied itself into nervous, tight knots. I fully expected to see Jacob sitting at the head of the long dining table. I prepared myself to endure his dark, obsessive stares and his cocky remarks.Stepping through the massive oak doors of the dining hall, I completely froze in my tracks.Jacob was nowhere to be seen. Instead, a very familiar, deeply infuriating older man sat comfortably at the table. He was casually sippi

ARIA “Who are you? Step outright now!”The sharp voice cracked like a whip through the dusty silence of the archive room.Freezing in place, my heart slammed against my ribs. I pressed my palm flat against my chest, feeling the stiff, folded parchment maps hidden securely beneath the tight bodice of my black dress. Taking a slow, shaky breath, I forced my facial expression to remain perfectly blank.“I know someone is in here,” the voice demanded again. “Show yourself!”Stepping out from behind a towering wooden bookshelf, I walked into the main aisle.A stern, older woman holding a bright brass lantern stood in the open doorway. She wore the crisp grey uniform of a senior pack manager. Her silver hair was pulled back into a painfully tight bun. Raising the lantern higher, her sharp eyes narrowed into suspicious slits the very second the light hit my face.“Miss Aria?” the senior maid asked, caught off guard. “What exactly are you doing in the restricted archives at this hour?”“Jus
