KADE

I was reviewing border patrol reports when Marcus burst into my office.

"To the clinic, Now. Sera's losing control."

I was moving before he finished speaking.

The hallway seemed endless, every step felt too slow. When I reached the clinic, I heard it, the hum of raw power, frightened voices, something breaking.

I moved through the door.

The scene stopped me. The back wall was cracked, wood splintered like something had exploded against it. Cassandra sat slumped beneath it, blood dripping from her nose. Elena was trying to approach someone, hands raised in a calming gesture, Other rogues crowded the doorway, their faces painted with fear and fascination.

And in the center of it all was Sera.

Silver light blazed around her like wildfire. Her eyes were pure silver, unseeing, lost. Her injured arm hung at her side, but her good hand was raised, power crackling between her fingers. She was shaking, her breath coming in short gasps.

"You just need to calm down," Elena was saying gently. "Sera, listen to me…"

"She attacked me," Cassandra said, her voice strained. "I was just talking to her and she.."

"Everyone shut up," I ordered, my voice cutting through the chaos.

Silence fell immediately, every eye turned to me except Sera's. She was still lost in her power, her fear feeding it, making it stronger.

"Elena, tend to Cassandra. Everyone else, out, Now."

The rogues scattered. Elena moved to Cassandra, shooting me a worried look before focusing on the injured woman.

I approached Sera slowly, keeping my movements calm and deliberate. The power around her crackled, reaching toward me like it was testing whether I was a threat.

"Sera," I said quietly. "Look at me."

No response. Her eyes stared at nothing, silver and blank.

"Sera." I took another step, the power lashed out, a tendril of silver light that stopped inches from my chest. Warning me to stand back.

I ignored it and kept moving forward.

"Kade, careful." Elena warned.

I didn't stop. Another step brought me close enough to feel the heat of Sera's power, the raw energy making my skin prickle.

"You're in control," I told her, keeping my voice steady and low. "Remember what I taught you, the power answers to you not the other way round."

Her breathing was still ragged, panicked. The silver light pulsed brighter.

"Breathe with me," I said. "In, out, slow."

I took an exaggerated breath, making sure she could hear it. Then another and another.

Slowly, her breathing began to match mine.

"Good," I said. "That's good, now feel the power don't fight it, just feel it."

I was close enough now to reach out. Dangerous, probably stupid, but necessary. I extended my hand slowly, palm up, waiting.

"You're safe, Sera. No one's going to hurt you, I won't let them."

Her silver eyes flickered. Just for a moment, I saw brown beneath the glow.

"Come back," I said quietly. "Come back to me."

My hand touched hers, the power surged, burning hot against my skin. I didn't pull away, Just held her hand, grounding her, letting her know I wasn't afraid.

"You're not dangerous," I continued, my voice steady despite the pain. "You're not a monster, you're Sera and you're in control."

The silver light wavered, her eyes cleared a bit more.

"Breathe," I reminded her. "In, out, with me."

We breathed together, my hand still holding hers despite the burn. Slowly, gradually, the power began to recede. The wild crackling softened, the blinding light dimmed.

Her eyes met mine, brown again, terrified and exhausted.

"Kade," she whispered.

Then her legs gave out.

I caught her before she hit the ground, pulling her against my chest. The last of the silver light faded, leaving her limp and shaking in my arms.

"I've got you," I said. "You're okay."

"I hurt her," Sera mumbled against my shirt. "I didn't mean to…I couldn't control it.."

"Shh, We'll figure it out."

Behind me, Elena had finished with Cassandra. "She'll be fine, bruised ribs, bloody nose, nothing serious."

"She touched me," Sera said, her voice barely audible. "And I just..it just.."

"I know." I adjusted my grip, preparing to lift her. "Elena, is she injured?"

"Power exhaustion," Elena said. "She needs rest, lots of it."

I stood, cradling Sera against my chest. She was too tired to protest, her head falling against my shoulder.

"What about her?" Cassandra asked from the floor, gesturing at Sera with obvious bitterness. "She attacked me, you're just going to let that go?"

I looked at her coldly. "You touched her after you dislocated her shoulder, after you spent days undermining her. Her power reacted defensively, that's on you."

"Defensively?" Cassandra's voice rose. "She could have killed me!"

"But she didn't." I started toward the door. "Elena will finish treating you then you stay in your quarters, we'll discuss your situation tomorrow."

"My situation?" Cassandra laughed bitterly. "I'm the victim here.."

"Tomorrow," I repeated, my tone making it clear the discussion was over.

I carried Sera through the compound, ignoring the stares from rogues who'd heard about the incident. She was barely conscious, her breathing shallow, her body trembling with exhaustion.

In her room, I laid her carefully on the bed, mindful of her injured shoulder. She made a small sound of pain but didn't wake.

I should leave, let her rest but something kept me there, watching her pale face, the dark circles under her eyes, the way even in sleep she looked exhausted.

How long had she been struggling like this? How many nights had she gone without real sleep, haunted by nightmares and fears she refused to share?

I pulled the chair from her desk to the bedside and sat down.

Her breathing was evening out now, the trembling subsiding but occasionally she'd make a small distressed sound, her face tightening with whatever she was dreaming.

"You're safe," I said quietly, knowing she probably couldn't hear. "I'm here, nothing's going to hurt you."

My hand moved without conscious thought, brushing a strand of hair from her face. She leaned into the touch slightly, some of the tension leaving her expression.

Tomorrow we'll talk, really talk. I'd find out what had put those walls between us, what had changed her from the fierce woman who'd argued with me to this hollow version going through emotions.

And once I knew, I'd fix it. Whatever it took.

But tonight, I just sat beside her bed and watched her sleep, and tried to ignore the way my chest tightened every time she made a sound of distress.

Tried to ignore how much it mattered that she was okay.

Tried to ignore that somewhere along the way, keeping her safe had stopped being about the Council and started being about her.

Just her.

SERAThe room felt too small, maps covered every surface, council territories, known headquarters locations, patrol routes. Marcus had gathered everything we had and it wasn't nearly enough."The main headquarters is here," Marcus said, pointing to a mark on the largest map. "Fortified structure in the heart of Council territory, at least a hundred guards at any given time, probably more.""How do we get in?" I asked, staring at the layout, It looked impossible."That's the problem," Kade said. "We don't have current knowledge, these maps are five years old. Guard rotations could have changed, new security measures could be in place, we'd be going in blind.""So we send scouts," I said, "to get updated information.""That takes time we don't have," Marcus replied, "and getting close enough to observe without being detected is nearly impossible. Council headquarters isn't some abandoned warehouse, It's the most heavily guarded location in all pack territories."I pressed my hands again

SERA"Tell me about Lydia."The words came out before I could stop them. We were still on the wall, the morning sun brightening, and I'd been working up the courage to ask for the past ten minutes.Kade went very still beside me, "Why do you want to know?""Because she mattered to you, understanding what you lost helps me understand you." I looked up at him, "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."He was quiet for a long moment, staring out at the forest. "She was fierce, stubborn, and had a way of making me laugh even when everything was falling apart." His voice was soft, distant, "She believed the Council could be stopped, that exposing their corruption would change things, I didn't expect to lose her.""I'm sorry.""But I'm learning that holding onto grief doesn't honor her memory, living does, fighting for what she believed does, and maybe.." He looked at me, "maybe letting myself feel something again does too."I was about to respond when I heard rapid footsteps on the

KADEEvery time I closed my eyes, I saw her, felt her. The way she'd looked at me with those brown eyes filled with want, the softness of her skin under my hands, the sound she'd made when I'd kissed her neck.My wolf was purring like some satisfied house cat instead of the feral beast it had been for the past five years.I'd kissed Sera Blackwood, more than kissed her and I didn't regret a single second of it.That should have terrified me, It did terrify me.The last time I'd cared about someone, really cared…she'd died. Lydia had been murdered because of me, because I'd been stupid enough to think love could survive in a world controlled by the Council. But lying there in the dark, all I could think about was the way Sera had laughed after Elena caught us, the way she'd looked at me like I was something worth wanting.I gave up on sleeping around dawn. By the time I'd showered and dressed, the compound was starting to brighten. I could hear patrol shifts changing, perceive the smel

SERAI didn't know who moved first, one moment we were standing, foreheads pressed together, breathing the same air. The next minute, his mouth was on mine and everything else disappeared. The kiss was nothing like before, no hesitation, no pulling back. Kade kissed me like he'd been starving for it, one hand sliding into my hair, the other pulling me against him. I gasped against his mouth and he took the opportunity, deepening the kiss until my knees got weak. His wolf was close to the surface. I could feel it, a wildness in the way he held me, something raw under his skin. His eyes were gold when we broke apart for air, and the sound he made in his throat sent a wave of heat through my body."Sera," he growled against my lips. A warning, a plea.I answered by pulling him back to me.The kiss became hungrier, my fingers threaded through his hair and he made a sound that vibrated through my chest. His hands gripped my waist tightly and I grabbed his shoulders, needing to feel every i

SERALila looked so small on the clinic bed.Elena had cleaned her up, checked for injuries, nothing serious. Just bruises, exhaustion, the lingering effects of whatever drug Vivian had used, but she was pale, weak, trembling even in sleep. My little sister, the girl I'd raised after our mother died. The one person in the Silvermoon Pack who'd never treated me like I was worthless and I'd almost lost her."She'll be fine," Elena said quietly, placing a hand on my shoulder. "She just needs rest."I nodded, not trusting my voice. My hands were shaking as I reached out to touch Lila's forehead. She was too cold, too fragile.I wished I could do more, wished I could take away her pain, her fear, everything Vivian had put her through. The thought sparked something inside me. A warmth in my chest, spreading down through my arms, silver light began to glow around my fingers that touched Lila's skin."Sera," Elena said, her voice was filled with surprise. "What are you…"The light intensified

SERAThe scouts returned within two hours."Seven guards," the lead scout reported, spreading a hurriedly drawn map on the table. "Vivian is inside, on the second floor. We spotted your sister through a window, alive but restrained.""Entrances?" Kade asked."Front door, loading dock at the back, side window on the first floor." The scout pointed to each location. "Guards are positioned here, here, and here, two at the front, three at the back, two patrolling inside.""Seven guards and Vivian," Marcus said. "Against how many of us?""Doesn't matter," I said, standing. "I'm going in.""Sera..""We're going now Kade." I looked at him, and he nodded."Fine, here's the plan." "Sera goes in and draws attention, Marcus, you take four fighters through the back during the chaos, get to Lila and rescue her.""And Vivian?" I asked."She's yours," Kade said simply. "Do what you need to do."Minutes later, we were moving through the forest toward the warehouse. My power eager and ready. I'd spent
