*** Nate’s POV ***

I held the coffee mug in my hands, taking small slips as I leaned against the wall. It had continued to rain throughout the next few days. The weather service was up in arms over the amount of rain we were getting. As usual, the west side of the territory flooded, so patrols monitored for landslides and damage.

Worst of all, there was a warm front or something coming in from somewhere. It was ripe for winds and tornados. Sam and Silas were getting the new evacuation plan sorted out with the pack as quickly as possible. Charles was working overtime in the city with his force, trying to get Jackson ready.

We offered Mer to stay with us in the guest room while her husband was gone, but she said a little thunder couldn’t scare her at her age. Still, it was shaping up to be more than a little thunder. Taking another sip of coffee, I sighed.

For some reason, things had been better.

“Nate, come on! Nate! Stay with me!”My eyes fluttered open, but all I saw were the wood beams, some twisted metal, water running off the pieces of drywall and roofing. I heard shuffling above, but I couldn’t see anything other than dust falling. Closing my eyes, I was just so tired. All I wanted to do was just to sleep.“Talk to me. Come on.”My voice cracked. “Silas?”“I’m getting to you. Just hold on. Hang tight with me.”“I…”As I started to reply, a sizable chunk of wall or roof above me moved. Looking up, my eyes met Silas, but it wasn’t him. Eros had taken over. He reached down, his fingers brushing my cheek, his eyes filled with worry.“I’ve got you, my mate. I’ve got you.”My eyes filled with tears and I wanted to reach out to him, but it was like I was back in the hospital. I could barely move. He pulled back m

Thunder shook the walls of the pack house and it startled me awake. Looking around, my entire room was dark. Reaching and grabbing my phone from the nightstand, it showed 2 a.m. My brow furrowed and slowly pushed myself up in bed.First, I tried turning on my light, but after a couple of flicks, I realized the power was out. Placing my foot on the floor, I pushed up. It wasn’t steady, but I could stand without holding onto anything for a little while. Reaching out, I used the wall to help take the three steps to the window. Grabbing the curtain and swinging it open, it was like a damn hurricane had blown in while I was asleep.Looking down at the driveway, Sam’s car and Silas’ truck were gone. Charles’ car sat in the driveway, though. I turned just as my door opened. Charles stepped in, surprised registering on his face.“You’re awake.”“What the hell is going on outside? I feel like this is way worse than t

I found myself floating in the darkness. At first I thought I was dreaming, but this felt different. This felt more like I was being pushed into my mind. As though Eros was taking over and locking me behind. He hadn’t done that in a while and I could count on one hand for him, pushing me completely back to where I couldn’t see anything.Righting myself, I felt better able to walk upright. The inky blackness weighing on me as I turned, seeing if there was a way out.‘You think you deserve that spot?’I spun around, coming face to face with my father. He didn’t look like the man I saw when I went to interrogate him over Aelia. No. This was my father, Alpha Tristin. His eyes were sharp and dark. The strong, large, in command Alpha that I had seen him so many years.“What?”‘Do you think you belong in that position, pup?’ He growled low, his face scre

I stepped past the kitchen, but stopped. Nate was doing dishes at the sink. Charles and Sam had gone out after dinner for a late night date into town. The shocking part was the fact that Nate was standing at the sink doing the dishes.Walking into the kitchen, I stopped at the island, watching him for a moment. “Did you need help?”“No, Silas. I’m fine.” His tone sounded nothing but tired.Tapping my finger on the counter, I had to shove back my thoughts. He was standing, sure. Why wasn’t he walking? Why wasn’t he running? Why did he think he could still be my leadership? All he was right now was a weakness. If anyone discovered our mark, they could easily destroy me.Closing my eyes for a moment, I breathed through the rush of thoughts. Coming around the island, I rolled up my sleeves. I grabbed a clean dish towel from the drawer.“At least let me dry.”Nate stopped for a moment, his hand at the bottom of the pot holding a sponge.

Nate didn’t seem to agree or disagree with me. Instead, he came over and turned me around. I swallowed, the sparks racing over my body. It was involuntary, but I felt myself get hard. This was exactly why I didn’t touch him. Luckily, I wasn’t facing him anymore.“This is bad. Sit down on the chair. I’ll grab the first aid.”His presence left my back, and I debated going up stairs. Instead, I did as he asked and sat on the chair at the breakfast table. I sat facing the window, where he could roll up to my back. My arm rested on the back of the chair.“Did he run you into a tree?”He placed the first aid kit on the table and opened it. His fingers pressed into my back and I hissed. Worst, my dick jumped back to attention. I draped my arm across it to keep it down.“Pretty much.”‘Did not. If you were strong enough, you could have caught yourself.’ His snark was loud and clear.“You need to be more careful.”My e
