I found myself floating in the darkness. At first I thought I was dreaming, but this felt different. This felt more like I was being pushed into my mind. As though Eros was taking over and locking me behind. He hadn’t done that in a while and I could count on one hand for him, pushing me completely back to where I couldn’t see anything.
Righting myself, I felt better able to walk upright. The inky blackness weighing on me as I turned, seeing if there was a way out.
‘You think you deserve that spot?’
I spun around, coming face to face with my father. He didn’t look like the man I saw when I went to interrogate him over Aelia. No. This was my father, Alpha Tristin. His eyes were sharp and dark. The strong, large, in command Alpha that I had seen him so many years.
“What?”
‘Do you think you belong in that position, pup?’ He growled low, his face scre

I stepped past the kitchen, but stopped. Nate was doing dishes at the sink. Charles and Sam had gone out after dinner for a late night date into town. The shocking part was the fact that Nate was standing at the sink doing the dishes.Walking into the kitchen, I stopped at the island, watching him for a moment. “Did you need help?”“No, Silas. I’m fine.” His tone sounded nothing but tired.Tapping my finger on the counter, I had to shove back my thoughts. He was standing, sure. Why wasn’t he walking? Why wasn’t he running? Why did he think he could still be my leadership? All he was right now was a weakness. If anyone discovered our mark, they could easily destroy me.Closing my eyes for a moment, I breathed through the rush of thoughts. Coming around the island, I rolled up my sleeves. I grabbed a clean dish towel from the drawer.“At least let me dry.”Nate stopped for a moment, his hand at the bottom of the pot holding a sponge.
Nate didn’t seem to agree or disagree with me. Instead, he came over and turned me around. I swallowed, the sparks racing over my body. It was involuntary, but I felt myself get hard. This was exactly why I didn’t touch him. Luckily, I wasn’t facing him anymore.“This is bad. Sit down on the chair. I’ll grab the first aid.”His presence left my back, and I debated going up stairs. Instead, I did as he asked and sat on the chair at the breakfast table. I sat facing the window, where he could roll up to my back. My arm rested on the back of the chair.“Did he run you into a tree?”He placed the first aid kit on the table and opened it. His fingers pressed into my back and I hissed. Worst, my dick jumped back to attention. I draped my arm across it to keep it down.“Pretty much.”‘Did not. If you were strong enough, you could have caught yourself.’ His snark was loud and clear.“You need to be more careful.”My e
*** Silas’ POV ***“Where is Nate?” I rubbed my forehead, trying to get a pinpoint on him in the territory.“Deluce and Austin picked him up a little while ago.”Blinking, I looked at my Gamma. How was it so hard to keep track of him nowadays? Nate was in a wheelchair for goddess sake. He couldn’t get very far. He couldn’t even shift at this point. Yet I had trouble tracking him on the daily.“Why? Why would he need to be going anywhere? I thought I explicitly told him he was to help with the paperwork. Not with roaming all over the pack with a bunch of other wolves!”Sam blinked at me before I saw him fighting a smirk. “He is helping with the emergency plans. Charles has been working on the ones in Jackson. So Beta thought it would be good to revisit the ones we have. Especially since they are predicting August to be a doozy storm-wise.”Shaking my head, I pinched the bridge of
I was quiet as Charles drove me down to the Wayward Tap. We’d finished with the physical therapy and I somehow felt worse right now than I normally did. Charles stayed quiet for the rest of the appointment after that. He also said very little as we got out and drove. Silas had popped into my head when he felt us going in the opposite direction of the pack house.Telling him we were going to the Wayward Tap, he broke out into an entire lecture. At one point, I just ignored him until he finally shut off. We passed the edge of the territory and the mind link stopped. I sighed and rubbed my temples.Charles pulled into the parking lot and it was still early enough that there were only a few cars. I plopped into the chair and rolled over to the entrance. Since it was Friday, Ryan was standing out front already. He opened the door for us, smiling.“Good to see you, Nate.” He cleared his throat. “You too, Chief.”“Not on duty, Ryan. How’s school?”Ryan sn
There was a knock on my office door. The door opened and Charles smiled, popping his head in. I sighed and tried to not look disappointed. Silas had been on strike since Wednesday, refusing to speak with me after our fight. Sam ranted about him being impossible to work with right now, but I knew I wasn’t at fault here. So, if he was waiting for an apology, he wasn’t going to get one.“Ready to go?”Nodding, I pulled back the wheels from my desk and rolled around the desk.“Sam wanted to take you, but Silas has him doing some work in town.”I frowned. That was supposed to be me. Sam was having to look at the planned site and making sure that the layout was correct. I’d done my best to help prep him for speaking to the guys, but I felt I’d get a call tomorrow trying to get the specifics down.Charles turned on the stairs and I locked the wheels of the chair. He picked me up and carried me down. Usually, they would set me on the couch at the bottom an
