MasukInside the study, Alpha Collins stared at his children, a frown in his face. He looked like he had much to ask but chose to ignore the questions.
Gemma sat with a pout, her brown eyes wandering everywhere but at her father. Julain remained silent, almost too relaxed. Drawing a deep breath, Alpha Collins said, “The blood moon is in a few days, and I've just been informed that we are hosting it.” For a brief moment, the study fell into complete silence, only to be broken by Gemma, who jumped with a clap of her hands. “You mean everyone will come to Winterpack for the blood moon?” She asked, eyes staring expectantly at her father. “Yes,” Alpha Collins replied. “We are hosting a ball, that's great,” Gemma said, unable to contain her excitement. “Who knows, my mate might just be among the males this year.” “It's not great,” Alpha Collins said. The smile on Gemma's lips faltered. “This year's summit is also being held here,” Alpha Collins said. “So?” Gemma asked, sitting back down “It's the day after the blood moon, and that means Alpha Dante will be here as well,” Julian chipped in, his tone monotonous. “I still don't get it,” Gemma said, brows tightly pulled together. She didn't care who Alpha Dante was. The name sounded familiar, she couldn't let him ruin her mood today or her time at the ball during the blood moon. “He'll demand for his compensation the moment he gets here,” Alpha Collins said. “We can't refuse him either, and since he has no mate yet, he might demand for…” “What's that supposed to mean?” Gemma asked, slamming her hand on the desk, nose flaring. She stared disbelievingly at her father. "It means you'd belong to him the moment he gets here,” Jullian said beside her. Gemma felt like punching her brother for being so calm and talking as if she didn't matter. Someone would take his sister away, and this is how he behaves? “I'm not going anywhere with anyone who isn't my mate,” she protested, but her words didn't have much impact on the two men in front of her. “Have you forgotten who he is?” Jullian asked. “Do you believe we can stop Alpha Dante? Do you think the Crimson Claw Pack would allow such disrespect to their Alpha?” Gemma froze when she heard the name of the pack, and realization struck her. Her knees grew weak. “It's not all bad. If you are lucky, he might make you his luna, and Winter Pack will benefit even more from it,” Jullian continued, his eyes on his sister. “Imagine being the luna of the strongest pack and mated to the strongest alpha, wouldn't that be…” he said, leaving his words incomplete. Knowing his sister, she would take the bait if not immediately, then a little more push was all that was needed. “Crimson Claw Pack, the strongest pack, and strongest alpha,” Gemma repeated. Slowly, she pulled the chair back in its place and sat down. Alpha Collins just watched the two without interrupting, although it hurts hearing his own children call another Alpha the strongest, even if it was the truth. “Doesn't sound bad, right?” Asked Julian. “Mhm,” Gemma hummed. “I heard he was handsome too,” Julian added, and Alpha Collins frowned. Just what was his son up to? “Really?” Gemma beamed as if that was the most important thing. “Fine. I'll do it,” she said, already decided. “Then there's much to prepare and very little time. I'll leave at once to start,” she stood and left before anyone could stop her. “What do you think you are doing, Julian?” Alpha Collins asked, his eyes narrowing at Julian. “This is what will benefit the Winter Pack, Father,” Julian replied without blinking. “She's old enough to help the pack in the only way she can.” “And you think Alpha Dante will accept her because…?” Alpha Collins asked, not convinced. Julian was silent for a moment, just staring at his father. He took a deep breath and said,“Gemma is beautiful and the daughter of an alpha. He is mateless and there's no guarantee he'd find one during the blood moon either. If shows up late or skips it as he always does, then Gemma is his next best option.” Alpha Collins let out a breath. “Fine,” he said. “I will take care of it.” Days passed with the ball on the night of the blood moon on everyone's lips and Gemma bragging about how she would marry an alpha Meanwhile, Rhea slowly heals from the wound inflicted on her. Surviving her only thought and biggest concern. She was an outcast, unwanted by all, she had no big dreams of a big, strong alpha who'd whisk her away to a better life. She'd learn that dreams were for the privileged. Someone like her only got nightmares. “It's finally here,” an omega working in the packhouse said to another as they moved about preparing the ball room. “Right? I hope I find my mate tonight and be done with this job,” the other replied. “Which Alpha do you think Gemma will marry?” Another conversation drifted to Rhea’s ears. “Do you think he's her mate or was it...?” Rhea, closed her eyes, and shut out all the conversations around her. She tightened the cloth that covered her head then her gaze returned to the food on the plate on the floor beside her. She was hungry, barely eaten anything for days, just worked to the bone and with existing injuries too, yet no one cared about her. No one even asked if she was okay even when they saw her limping around. The sound of carriage wheels from the distance had her looking out the window but she couldn't see anything. Not with the other maids already blocking it. “The guests, they've started arriving,” someone said. “Someone go and tell the Alpha,” another voice said. Hearing this, Rhea stood up. It was time she made herself scarced before she became the main entertainment for the night. She was used to such humiliation, but it still hurts every time. But her attempt at a silent retreat didn't go as smoothly as she wanted because the moment she stepped out of the door, she was met by Julian and Gemma.“Who the f*ck did this to you?” Dante’s growl vibrated through the room, low and dangerous, the kind that made the air feel heavier. For a moment, no one spoke.Julian stiffened.Rhea instinctively took a small step back. Not because she thought Dante would hurt her. It was just instincts and the raw anger she saw in his eyes. His eyes were still fixed on her cheek. The red fingerprints stood out clearly against her pale skin.Dante’s jaw tightened.“Answer me,” he demanded,“Who did this to you?” Rhea trembled, and when he saw her like that, he drew in a deep breath as holding something back. His jaws clenched.Rhea looked away, her eyes now on her feet as fear began to take over once again. She bit the inside of her cheek as if that would help get rid of the fear. Her fingers slowly dropped from her cheek, but the burning sensation remained. She glanced at the door briefly, knowing Gemma was still somewhere outside.“...It's nothing,” she said softly. He was already this angry. He m
Rhea tossed and turned on the bed, unable to sleep no matter how hard she tried. The bed was comfortable, better than anything she'd ever laid on, but it was something that was foreign to her.She rolled and lay on her back. Her eyes on the ceiling and her mind began processing everything that had transpired since that morning until now. “Alpha Dante,” she whispered, the name heavy on her tongue. She lifted her hand and stared at her wrist where he held her and led her here. She also remembered the warmth she felt from his body when he picked her up after breaking the chains. Her tail moved on its own, and her cheek turned pink as blood rushed up.She tapped her cheeks, shaking her head as she reprimanded herself to stop thinking like that. When was the last time she felt such warmth? The last person to hold her so close and with so much care was her mother, and that was a long time ago. Thanks to Alpha Dante, she had eaten until she was filled. Her wounds were also healed by a hea
Several moments later, inside a guest's room, Rhea sat on the edge of a bed. Her posture was cautious, and her senses on high alert. She could hear their voices behind the door as Dante addressed his subordinates. She followed Dante when he told her to because she knew it was better to go with than to stay behind. She would be nothing but a sheep in the midst of literal wolves. Everything that happened inside the ballroom still felt like a dream. It all happened so fast that she was unable to follow it all, but what stuck with her was that Alpha Dante was hellbent on keeping her by his side, and it baffled her. What was his motive? He was ready to kill Gemma and make an enemy of Alpha Collins and the Winter Pack, all for her sake. Rhea couldn't think of any reason why he would do that. The door opened, and Dante entered. His steps halted for a second when their eyes met before he fully stepped in and closed the door behind him. Under his gaze, Rhea felt small like a rabbit bef
Dante’s words hung heavy in the air, the silence that settled over the ballroom, making them louder. Dante and Alpha Collins held each other's gaze, the air charging with growing tension. For a moment, Alpha Collins' eyes shifted towards Rhea, but Dante was quick to block his line of sight, shielding her from Alpha Collins. “Well?” Dante probed. “It would be a shame to give something as insignificant as that to you,” Alpha Collins said through clenched jaws. “I don't care,” Dante breathed. “Do we have a deal?” “And if I refuse?” Alpha Collins asked. “It changes nothing,” Dante replied, stepping back until he reached Rhea. He grabbed her hand. “I will just take her and leave.” Rhea swallowed a lump in her throat, and her body turned stiff. His words overwhelmed her. Why was he so persistent about taking her with him? No one has ever done that before. She raised her head slightly, peeking cautiously at him as if afraid to be caught looking at him. His countenance was dark, al
The more he looked at her, the more his patience was being tested, but at least she responded to him, however faint her responses were. But one thing truly grated against his nerves, and that was her reaction to Alpha Collins’ son. It was as if his presence was a blade hanging over her neck.Should I just kill him? He thought, his gaze locked on Julian whose eyes remained on Rhea. He gritted his teeth. Instead, he asked, “Where is your father?” Julian’s gaze finally shifted from Rhea to Dante, and he almost took a step back as soon as he met Dante’s glare.“He is with the other alphas,” Julian replied before he could even realize it.“Lead the way,” Dante said, his hand taking hold of Rhea’s wrist. His gaze met hers, and he said, his tone soft, compared to how he had spoken to Julian. “Let's go meet Alpha Collins.”Rhea just stared at him, her eyes silently pleading with him to leave her behind. “You'll be fine,” he assured her. “Trust me.” Rhea’s gaze moved from Dante to the oth
Rhea didn't know why, but when he picked her up, she did not resist. Maybe it was due to instincts, not wanting to be beaten for disobeying. Or perhaps it was because he was kind enough to notice her wounds and had shown concern for. Right now, they moved through the snow, his long legs made the distance seem much shorter than she knew it to be. Then she saw his eyes glazed over in a mindlink, and once again, panic surged, and she struggled to leave his arms, but his hold on her grew firmer the more she struggled.“I won't hurt you,” he assured. But Rhea couldn't believe any of it. “My people will get you a healer soon,” he said. “Where would you like me to take you? Just point in the direction.” Rhea hesitated but eventually gave him directions. Meanwhile, inside the ballroom, Reid stood with a frown. The message he had just received from his alpha replaying in his head again.“Find a healer and bring them to me. Be fast about it,” his Alpha had said.He didn't explain and didn't
