ログインLively chatter echoed through the ballroom, and mild music in the background kept the mood.
Time was slowly reaching the awaited hour. Excitement and expectation could be heard and seen in the eyes of every unmated shifter present, old and young alike. At the forefront of it all was Alpha Collins with his children by his side, ready to give a welcome speech to the guests. With a spoon, he gently tapped the glass on his other hand, and the soft, crisp sound silenced the ballroom and drew all eyes to him. “It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all on this fateful night,” Alpha Collins began Beside him, Gemma's eyes swept through every face present, searching. “The Blood Moon comes only once a year, and this year's, on this wonderful day, we have the pleasure of hosting you. I and my family and the entire Winter Pack are truly grateful to host you,” he continued. Some of the guests nodded, and a few others hummed. Collins stood still and expressionless at his side while Gemma slipped away. She moved between the guests with a frown on her face. Disappointment beginning to settle. “Let us celebrate and thank the goddess, Selene, for smiling on us and blessing us once again this year…” Alpha Collins’ voice began to fade in Gemma's ears as worry and anger began spreading its roots through her heart and thoughts. “I pray that everyone gathered here seeking for their fated partner to be blessed with them tonight.” The crowd cheered and clapped, the sound startling Gemma who grumbled and cursed. “Where the hell is he?” She muttered, glaring at every corner she looked, especially at the main entrance. “Once again. I welcome you to the Winter Pack and the Blood Moon. Drink, eat, and be merry,” Alpha Collins concluded as the crowd clapped once again. Gemma turned and glared at her father and brother, inwardly blaming them for making her believe her dream man was coming. Her eyes narrowed as she saw Austin, her father's beta approached him and whispered into his ears. She quickly walked back to where they were, almost running, bumping into people but didn't stop to even apologize. Alpha Collins turned to Julian and said, “I'll leave the ballroom to you,” he said, knowing he probably heard everything the beta said. Julian gave a nod and a light hum. Gemma quickly pulled Julian aside, her grip a little tighter than necessary, but Julian’s expression remained placid. “You said he was coming,” she said in a whisper. “Yes, and…?” Julian asked with a hint of annoyance in his tone. “Isn't it obvious?” Gemma asked. “He isn't here.” Julian shook off her hand and stepped back. “Then go get him here yourself.” he said and walked away. Gemma stomped her foot and puffed her cheeks, but Julian paid her no mind. Alpha Collins followed his beta out of the ballroom. He didn't bother much about those in there now because just like Julian, everyone in the hall right now were single Alphas, alpha heirs, or those below these ranks. The guests he should entertain were either still on their way or have just arrived and have been sent to wait somewhere else. That was what his beta just came to tell him. “How many are here?” Alpha Collins asked. “five,” Beta Austin replied, and Alpha Collins nodded. “What about him?” Alpha Collins asked again. He didn't need to be specific as the beta already knew who his alpha was referring to. “There's news that he's on his way. He'll be here soon,” Austin replied. “The other alphas also know this and have become restless, too.” he added. Alpha Collins sighed, running a hand through his hair as they moved through the corridor with large strides. Meanwhile, away from the packhouse where everything else was happening, Rhea sat on the ground, knees drawn to her chest, chin placed on them. Her hands hugged her legs. On her ankles were chains. The music from the ballroom often drifted into her ears, but she never once reacted to it. She just wished it would be over soon so she could go back inside. She never wished to be in the ballroom. All she wanted was to go back to her little room in the basement, but even that wasn't enough because Julian and Gemma didn't think it would be enough to keep her out of sight. And now… She was out in the cold, chained to a tree in the backyard, the ground covered in snow and with no covering whatsoever. Her eyes grew heavier by the second, yet the biting cold wouldn't even let her sleep. But Rhea was determined to have at least a little sleep before they came for her again. But just then, she heard footsteps approaching where she was, and her heart began racing. She sniffed the air, trying to pick up a scent even with a nearly frozen nose, and when she succeeded in picking up the scent, she frowned and sprung up to her feet, alarmed. It was an unfamiliar accent. To Rhea, it was nothing good. There was never anything good about being found or seen by anyone. To her, everyone was danger. The closer the steps got to her, the more her fear grew. Just thinking of what this person approaching would do to her already had her forgetting that she was bound and tried to run only to be pulled back by the chains, and she fell. She wanted to scream and cry out as pain shot through her knees at the impact with the ground, but she knew nothing good ever came from her voice being heard. So she just muffled her voice and fought against the tears threatening to spill. The footsteps soon stopped beside her. A tall and broad figure towering over her. She shut her eyes tightly, but she could feel a heated gaze on her and she wished she could turn invisible. “Why are you chained out in the cold?” The person asked and Rhea flinched. At the Crimson Claw Pack, Stella sat inside the drawing room, her back to the door. Her eyes stared thoughtfully into the distance through the open window. A faint crease settled between her brows. When she heard footsteps approaching and the familiar scent of her Alpha draw near, she turned towards the door, rising to her feet. “She is sleeping,” Dante said before she could even voice her question, already able to read her thoughts.“That's good,” Stella breathed out, relief flooding her. She turned and returned to the couch.“You said something earlier about her fur,” Dante said.Stella paused briefly, and then she smiled and sank into the couch. “I did,” she said, and Dante’s eyes narrowed slightly. “It was snow white. That's rare.”“You didn't sound like it was just rare,” he pointed out, and she nodded. “Then…?”“Have you seen a white wolf anywhere in your many travels?” she asked, but his frown only deepened as he shook his head. Stella's smile was warm as she said, “that's be
Back inside the packhouse, Rhea moved around the room, still mesmerized by everything. She came to stand in front of the full-length mirror. She looked at her clothes, they didn't match the luxury of the room. Then there was her washed off scarf still tied around her head. Her hand reached for it, and she loosened it. Long, dark hair with fiery red tips fell down her back and shoulders framing her face. On her head were a pair of white wolf ears. Rhea took a moment to look at her own reflection. Her eyes that were a dark red shade were now dual color of red and blue. The colors receded whenever she wanted to keep her features hidden as if responding to her silent wish. And whenever she lets out her ears and tail like this, they will take back their original colors. She moved sideways so she could see her own back, and her eyes trailed down to her butt where an oversized baggy pants had been worn and a long, oversized sweater was worn over it. Underneath it was her tail. Rhea gl
The Crimson Claw packhouse was a huge mansion. From where Rhea stood and how far she could see, there were tall trees all around and gardens on either side. The people here smiled when they welcomed their alpha, and she didn't feel any negative energy from them, unlike at the Winter Pack. They looked at her, not with anger, annoyance, and hatred, but with pure curiosity. Especially the old lady who looked at her with eyes so bright that Rhea could see the sparks in them.“Who is this lovely young lady with you, Alpha?” The woman asked, her expression softening when their eyes met. Rhea's grip on Dante’s sleeve tightened, not from fear but because what she felt at that moment was foreign to her, and she didn't know how to react appropriately. Dante looked at her when he felt her grip. She poked out from his side like a little rabbit coming out of its hole for the first time. He smiled, his hand going behind her and circling her waist before gently tugging her forward to stand beside
The ride back to the Crimson Claw Pack was long and filled with a heavy silence. The incident from earlier still fresh on the minds of everyone. Even Rhea had her mind occupied with the happening, but sometimes, a different thought slipped in.Her eyes would occasionally drift to Dante’s face, and she would find him with a frown. The longer the frown persisted, the more uncomfortable and guilty she felt, thinking she had done something wrong that angered him.“...Alpha,” she called, her voice low, barely above a whisper.Dante looked at her briefly, his dark eyes meeting hers, and she shifted where she sat. Her hands clutched the hem of her skirt.“I…I didn't mean to offend you,” she said, “I just…” Rhea was beginning to stammer under his gaze.Meanwhile, Dante’s eyes remained on her for a few seconds longer, and then he sighed inwardly, his thumb went up his face and rubbed the space between his brows. “Do you know what you did wrong?” He asked, his voice still clipped despite tryin
As soon as Dante moved away from the car, Rhea opened her eyes. The sense of security she had felt earlier was gone, replaced by a growing uneasiness. Her instincts roared to life. The fight outside quickly caught her attention. Her eyes darted left and right, fear overtaking all her senses. Her hands flew to her mouth to stop the involuntary shriek that nearly escaped her throat. Outside, she saw Dante move. His back muscles flexed as he took off his jacket and shirt as though they were bothering him. His hands clenched and unclenched as if they itched. He shifted as he strode toward a bleeding creature. Dante was huge, and unlike the other shifters around him who were on all fours after shifting, he stood on two feet. His frame was even larger than before his transformation. Thick black fur covered his massive body, and every step he took carried an overwhelming authority. For a few seconds, Rhea forgot about the danger around her. Her gaze remained fixed on him, as if everyth
Rhea followed Dante to the cars parked outside, her eyes blinking at the sight of the expensive cars. She looked at him, her eyes silent asking if she was allowed inside something like that.Reid and Kael stood beside the car, and Kael held the door open.“Get inside,” Dante said. His hand was placed on her lower back, lightly pushing her forwards towards it but not enough to make her move against her will. “If you don't want them accompanying us, we can send them away, and I will drive.”“No… that wouldn't be right,” Rhea quickly shook her head, eyes widening. How could she make an Alpha drive himself or in this case…drive her? “Let them drive.” She added. “Mhm,” He hummed. He looked at his beta and gamma and gave them a nod. “Rhea.”Rhea paused at the sudden mindlink. She looked around and found the source at a little distance, standing under a tree. She stared at Julian in shock. Why was Julian sending her a mindlink when he had never done that before? The feeling of a mindlink
Several moments later, inside a guest's room, Rhea sat on the edge of a bed. Her posture was cautious, and her senses on high alert. She could hear their voices behind the door as Dante addressed his subordinates. She followed Dante when he told her to because she knew it was better to go with tha
Alpha Collins’ gaze and aura got darker with every second that passed, and Julian remained silent. “Dad,” On the ground was Gemma, coughing and trying to get back on her feet but staggered and fell again. This was the third time tonight her throat had been clamped, and it got worse every time. Bu
A few minutes earlier, Reid and Kael were outside with warriors from their pack and those from other packs, just chatting and drinking away when they felt their alpha’s rage through the pack link.It wasn't just them, but all of the Crimson Claw Pack warriors nearby felt it. They ran inside, knowi
“Who the f*ck did this to you?” Dante’s growl vibrated through the room, low and dangerous, the kind that made the air feel heavier. For a moment, no one spoke.Julian stiffened.Rhea instinctively took a small step back. Not because she thought Dante would hurt her. It was just instincts and the
