CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX

Her eyes dazzled from Clyde's fading body to the kid's lifeless body. There was nothing she could do to save him. He was gone.

Making up her mind, Emma took out her phone and dialed the emergency number. Her hands were shaking, and she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. After a few rings, a woman's voice answered.

“911, what's your emergency?” the operator asked.

“I just witnessed a murder,” Emma said, trying to steady her voice.

“Can you give me your location?”

“I'm at 87th Street and Lexington Avenue, Minnesota.”

“Okay, officers are on their way. Can you describe what happened?”

“I saw a man kill a kid. He had a gun, and he shot him in the chest. The man's name is Clyde, and he's wearing a black hoodie and jeans,” she lied. Oh, that was complicated. How would the fang marks on the kid's neck be explained? Did she just worsen the situation?

“Did you see where he went?”

“No, he ran off as soon as he shot the kid,” she lied again.
