Chapter 3

Faye's POV:

My smile flattered almost instantly and my face turned cold. I was cracking my head, trying to find something to say, anything. But nothing was forthcoming.

"Can't you talk? Are you dumb all of a sudden?" Dad asked sternly. I straightened my face and braced myself, snapping my back into position.

I spoke calmly even though my heart was racing irregularly against my chest, "I went out early this morning with Lean, we went to check on a provision at the town store but we couldn't find it so I drop her off at her house."

I looked up at him and noticed that he was silently observing me with skepticism.

He shook his head and without uttering any word, he turned back and walk inside the house.

That was so close.

I heaved out a sigh of relief and covered my face with my palm.

I promised myself to never follow Lean out to a club again. Never would I sleep with someone I don't know again.

Not only was I feeling guilty for lying to my father, I felt guilty for cheating on my boyfriend. As someone who would soon rule the great Nighthunt Pack, it was a great shame to sleep with Kian Santos of all people; the Scarred Alpha.

If Father gets to know about it, he would disown me.

I walked inside the house and met Max and Mom inside the living room.

I was shocked but I quickly composed myself and forced a smile on my face. "Good morning, Mom." I greeted her as I walk up to both of them.

"Good morning, my love." She grinned widely. I peck her cheek and kissed Max.

"Are you here already when you called me?" I inquired and he nodded his head.

Oh shit. What the fuck?

"Where did you go?" He whispered harshly as he stared at me. I didn't want to say anything in front of Mom so I just smiled and went inside the kitchen. Before I could sit down on the kitchen table, Max's firm hand wrapped around my arm and pulled me to himself.

I gasped loudly, my eyes blinking in shock as I place my hands on his chest.

"Babe....." I stuttered nervously. He placed his right palm on my hair and caressed it then look into my eyes.

Can he tell?

Can he tell that I cheated on him? I didn't know.

Even though I was so nervous, he smiled reassuringly and kissed my forehead then swerve around and walked out of the kitchen.

I stared at the door for a long while, confused about what to do.

"You are lucky that he didn't find out," Mina grumbled. "You are such a whore."

"Shut up." I snapped, and my hold tightened on the table and I glanced at the fridge.

Kian Santos.

Oh, my goddess!

Out of every werewolf there last night, I slept with Kian Santos.

What would my parents think of me?

What would my Pack members think of me?

What would my boyfriend think of me?

"Are you okay?" I hear Max whisper behind me.

I let out a deep breath and nodded my head. "Yeah... I'm fine."

I turned around and forced a smile on my face then walked up to him and wrapped my hand around his neck. "I love you," I mumbled softly.

Max silently regarded me, his eyebrows raised, his mouth contorted in a grimace, and his nose perked up. I tried to get away as I realized what was happening, but he grabbed me tightly and stared into my eyes.

I observe as he grimaces angrily and makes a fist with his hands. "Who is it?"

My Goddess!

"Ma..... Max." I stumbled and retreated out of impulse. "Baby, pay attention to me. Not at all like you imagine."

Max's hands balled into tight fists as his face twisted in rage. "How confident are we in your ability to lead the Pack if you can't even be faithful to your man?" He spoke while shaking his head. "We are done."

"No! Max, please. You can't do this to me." I screamed and nimbly seized the collar of his shirt. "Baby, look at me."

As tears stream down my cheeks, I implored Max to listen to me, but he refused. The moment Mom entered the kitchen and saw the huge mess I had made of myself, Max threw off my hand from his shirt and walked away. My lips were trembling, and my eyes were heavy.

Mom murmured, "Oh, dear," as I collapsed to the ground. "What took happened?"

"I..... It was a mistake...." I cried. "It was a mistake."

She was able to bend over and give me a private hug. I sobbed uncontrollably while grabbing her dress.

I didn't intend to end things in that manner. I adored Max and desired for him to be my mate. However, fate had other plans for me.

"Honey, you ought to tell me what's going on." Mom pleaded desperately. "Tell me how I can assist you."

Would have been great if it were that simple.

I knew that telling my mother the truth was out of the question for me, thus I was unable to do so. It would rather become a major catastrophe.

I can never allow it to occur.

****

I kept my room door closed the entire day. avoiding all eye contact.

Again, a light knock came on my door, and when I heard a voice, I wanted to dismiss it as usual.

"It's me." Lean complained. My gaze slanted over the door as I unconsciously twitched the side of my eyelids in rage.

That bitch.

How many hours later?

I hurriedly rose from the bed, made a hasty and short journey to the door, and opened it.

She clutched both of her ears and blinked her eyes quickly at me, as if anticipating my rage. "I apologize, Faye." She grunted.

I muttered under my breath, "Fuck it," and headed back to my bed.

"Relax, Faye. He is not even our mate." Mina said to me. She didn't care. She didn't like Max that much to begin with.

"What occurred last night at the club?" Lean asked with intrigue.

I gave her a look and almost instantly, my face turned sour. I could feel it in my bones, the aftermath of a breakup.

Kian Santos.

He was the reason for everything. I wanted to curse him, but it wasn't his fault.

I was the one who let a Scarred Alpha, a social outcast, and my Father's fiercest adversary to fuck me and ruin my perfect relationship.

"What the hell happened?" Lean squeezed her lips together and arched one brow in my direction.
