Eva Gibson’s pov

Entering the house, I turned to Austin and asked, “Why does this place seem so cold and empty?”

Smiling, he informed me that we were all alone in the huge home, and I shook my head.

“I realize that I meant the atmosphere seems oppressing,” I muttered.

“Ah well, like I explained before, my father grew cold after he sent my birth mother away, and it seeped into the walls,” He stated.

“Why did he? She was his mate, wasn't she?” I asked him in befuddlement.

Pecking my cheek, he said, “Because he feared what she was, and I believe that I told you that as well. Enough questions you need substance.”

Following him into the kitchen, I stated that he must have grown depressed after she was gone.

“He obviously loved her if he had grown so bitter,” I commented, and he snorted.

“My father has no love, and I doubt if he even has a heart,” he asserted as he rummaged through the fridge and pulled out several containers.

  • The Second Choice Mate    Chapter 63

Eva Gibson’s pov Licking his lips and eyeing, Austin Gideon smacked his lips noisily before huffing, “You're definitely Elvina's son. Give me a moment to visit with both brothers.” He disappeared from where he stood, and I glanced at Austin with the sunlight glistening off his bare tan chest. Scrunching my lips in silliness, I looked up at his face and met his eyes watching me, causing me to giggle slightly. “You find all of this humorous?” Shaking my head with my fingers on my chin, I studied his features and couldn't see any resemblance to Patrick Belmont. He looked nothing like Patrick or Nick, for that matter, which was confusing to me. "He must take after his mother," I thought. “His real father's wolf could be similar. Nero is black, and Austin is brown-haired,” Lana growled, causing my brow to furrow. “What color are Patrick and Nick's wolves?” Creasing his brow, he looked at me questionably. “What does that matter?” Shrugging casually, I muttered that

Eva Gibson’s pov Impressed with how quickly Austin learned how to handle a sword, I taught him how to wear out his opponent, as Gideon had suggested to me. I could tell Austin’s confidence had grown and wiped off my sweaty brow when Gideon tapped me out to take over. Noticing Jace come strolling into the area, he was holding a handful of documents. I then noticed the suit-dressed man behind him pushing his glasses up on his nose. “Hi Eva, I need Austin to sign a few things in front of this notary sent by his uncle from the Gray River pack,” Jace whispered in my ear as he passed by me, and my eyes widened at the apparent traitor in our midst. I was curious about what documents were needed for a notary in our wolf community. I scurried after Jace. Standing to the side, I listened to Jace inform Austin that his will had been rewritten, and he needed to go over what his uncle had changed and get it notarized for it to be legal. “I only agreed to one change, and that was my o

Eva Gibson’s pov Seeing my captor shudder and then shake out his limbs, I grew curious. Growling angrily, Jaxon came before me with his eyes narrowed at me. “Who do you know that can teleport?” he questioned with his voice like ice. Raising my brow at him, I shrugged as I thought about the assassin, then said, “Oh shit, you're screwed, bud.” Pinching his lips, he stood straight and smirked. “Enlighten me, Miss, how am I screwed,” he asked, using finger quotes. “The Moon Council's former assassin is my friend, and he can teleport,” I asserted and heard him curse colorfully. “Nero asked me for our location, Austin is searching for you,” Lana growled in my head as I narrowed my eyes at my captor. He was shaking his head and tossing my knife in his hand. “Hey, don't mess around with my knife,” I growled, gaining a scowl from him. “Keep your mouth shut, or I'll gag you! I'm trying to think,” He barked. Hissing, I mumbled, “I hope Mister Landers takes your head.” I

Austin Belmont’s pov After Eva left the room, I poured another glass of the strong wine and took a big gulp. “Slow yourself, buddy; I don't wish to carry you out of the steakhouse,” Jace growled. He didn't understand the turmoil I was going through. I was certain that I was going to be dead in a matter of days. My uncle was a crazed beast when he fought. Sighing, I rubbed my eyes to clear my blurring vision. “You were stupid to drink,” Nero, my wolf, commented, breaking through my chaotic thoughts. When our food was brought to the table, I narrowed my eyes at Jace. “Where is Eva?” I questioned with a growl. He glanced around the room and asked me where she said she was going. “Uh, to the bathroom to pee, but she should have been back by now,” I growled low. Standing up suddenly, I gripped his shoulder to steady my balance. "Call her cell phone," Jace suggested, and I informed him that she had left it at home. “Your uncle probably took her! You should have accom

Eva Gibson’s pov Arriving in the parking lot of the steakhouse, I was overwhelmed with worry. Parking the jeep, Austin asked me if I was ready to eat, and I gave him a sour look. “My concern is causing me to get queasy, but I must eat for our pup,” I mumbled. Nodding briskly, he suggested we head in, so I unbuckled and hopped out of his jeep. As we headed toward the entrance, we heard a gruff voice shouting, “Nephew,” and I stopped cold in my tracks. Glancing over my shoulder, I swallowed uncomfortably at the huge, barbaric-looking beast of a man who was hailing down my mate. “Uncle,” Austin growled as he came to my side. Dressed in a dark gray suit, Nick Belmont looked like the head of a mafia organization. His appearance was clean-cut, but the ragged scar down his cheek gave him a cold edge that exaggerated his dangerous nature. I shuddered when his soulless steel-gray eyes met mine. “Who is this, Austin?” “She is none of your business! Now leave my town,” Austi
