Standing together, Eva, at eighteen, and Olivia, at twenty-five, held each other's hand as they watched the dirt cover the graves of their parents at their large pack's cemetery… “What are we going to do?” I questioned my older sister who was weeping quietly. Giving me a look of sympathy she asserted, “I will drop out of university and get a job at the pack's shopping center.” I side-eyed her in disbelief. “But Olivia, you were getting honors and are close to graduation,” I said softly. Lowering her tear-stained eyes from mine, she exhaled deeply and said, “I promised to watch over you and will honor our parent's wishes.” This seemed unfair, and bitterness filled my heart for the drunk human responsible for fatally crashing into my parents. My eyes narrowed as I glanced over the mourners who attended the funeral and paused briefly at Austin Belmont, who was blatantly staring at my sister. “The pack whore is eyeing you,” I mumbled softly in disgust and Olivia scolded me. “He is one of the Alpha’s sons and a dear friend. Don't be so judgemental, Eva.” Rolling my eyes I told her that we should go since our parents' final resting plots were covered and the others were dispersing. “You're so hard, Eva! It's okay to have feelings,” she berated me, and I swallowed the lump of emotion in my throat. I cared, probably too much but used my walls to keep others from getting underneath my skin, not wanting anyone to get too close. I was an observer, not an emotional person, using my eyes to study the world around me. “Hey, wait up!” Austin called out, and Olivia’s steps slowed, causing me to stop and glare up at the sky in annoyance. “Luna made some meals for you to tide you both over for the next week. They brought the items to my house so we can go there, and I can help bring them over to your place,” he explained, and I eyed him condescendingly. Why the Alpha’s son cared for just a couple of parentless Omegas made my skin itch in a warning. “Please thank our Alpha, well your dad and mom, Austin. It's very sweet of them to think about us,” Olivia said kindly, and I remained tight-lipped, knowing that he was after one thing, and that was my sister’s innocence. I should know since the same crap happened to me when I gave my innocence to another womanizer during my 18th birthday who I thought cared about me. Oh, how foolish I had been. The memory of it caused me to scorn every male I came across. Austin fit in that category and was also a notorious playboy. He fornicated with any and all females willing to spread their thighs for him. Being the eldest of the Alpha’s sons he was the future leader of our Red Moon Pack and flaunted that fact continuously. My sister seemed oblivious to his pursuit and it irritated me immensely. “Let's go,” Austin said as he gestured toward his home. “Come along, sis, so you can help carry the Alpha's generous gift,” Olivia advised as she wiped her damp eyes. “I'm coming,” I muttered sourly as I followed the pair. Nestled on the edge of the surrounding forest, Austin’s home was built near the pack guards' and warrior training area, and as we passed, I eyed the pack warriors doing their daily workouts. Biting my lip I felt that I could join if I could pass the initial tests. “Eva,” Olivia called me from my thoughts, and I saw her standing on Austin's porch, holding the front door open for me. Taking one last glance at the training guards I entered the home. Having been in his house countless times I went to the galley kitchen to see several grocery sacks on the counter full of items. “This is too much,” Olivia commented and Austin chuckled. “Just wanted to make sure that you would not be short of anything,” he said, making me narrow my eyes. “I thought you said that this was from the Alpha?” I questioned him and saw his eyes narrow at me. “I am his son, so technically the same thing,” he muttered, and Olivia shot me a glance to shut it. Rolling my eyes, I grabbed two sacks, ready to leave Austin. They both grabbed sacks and we finally headed back to our home. As we walked I listened to Austin ask my sister about her classes and what she was going to do now that my parents were gone. “I'm going to drop out for the time being and take care of Eva. After things get in order, I will go back to university,” she explained, and I frowned, knowing that I was a financial burden now. “Are you going to work for the pack,” he asked her and she informed him that she was going to apply for the pack's clothing store in town. “If you ever need a ride to work, you can give me a call, and I will gladly be of service,” he said with a handsome smile. Of course, Olivia nodded graciously and told him that she appreciated the kind gesture. Wanting to gag I snubbed him when his eyes landed on me once we neared our modest house.Aurora Belmont’s pov My parents told me it was my choice if I wanted to go with Dante, and seeing my grandmother nodding at me, I made the decision to go. Saying my farewells had been sad but Dante told me that we could visit whenever I wanted. Currently, I was standing before all the Moon Council members while Dante spoke about me and what my position would be. They looked skeptical, but I looked at each of them with determination. After Dante was finished, he turned to me. “Let's go to my room and figure out our living arrangement,” he said nervously. Examining his strange behavior, I nodded and told him that I would love to see his room. Lowering his eyes from mine, he exhaled softly and said, “Please don't judge me by its contents. I'm a cold-blooded assassin, after all.” Giggling at him, he looked at me with a frown. “Relax goofball. I'm sure your private area is dark, gloomy, and brooding just like you,” I said in jest. Nodding his head slowly, he looked
Aurora Belmont’s pov Standing obediently with the other guards of my graduating class, I looked at my parents, along with my grandparents, smiling proudly at me. My mother was holding my baby brother Micah Jace Belmont and smiling proudly at me. I scanned the crowd in hopes of seeing Dante, but it had been over a year since I kissed him when he had given me Goddess Medeina's sword. He hadn't returned physically, but my arm hairs rose occasionally, so I knew he was spying on me. “Are you coming to the Tooth and Claw to celebrate?” My classmate, Abby asked. “I will ask my parents if it is permitted,” I replied, and she rolled her eyes. “You're an adult, Aurora, and don't need your parents' permission,” she teased. Of course, I was aware, but I still wanted them not to worry, but instead, I nodded and told her that I would go with her. The Master's ceremony started, and I waited for Sirius's second to finish our tattoos. When it was my turn, my mom was cheering embarrassingly
Aurora Belmont’s pov Speechless, I just stared at her, completely gobsmacked. “He killed her, yet the Goddess has him working on her council?!” Rubbing her eyes, Elvina peered at me and said, “It was his punishment to serve. Killing your own kind takes a toll on one's conscience.” “He killed a Goddess, and you think I'm capable of fighting against him?” I questioned her in disbelief. Nodding, she grinned slightly and told me I was powerful but hadn't tapped into my full potential yet. “Your druid curse is just at the surface, and I can see it glowing within you. You need a powerful teacher, and I personally feel that it should be Mr. Rafiq,” she stated assuredly. Pinching my lips, I said nothing, prompting her to add, “Let's go see if your mom has spoken with your dad about your training.” Reluctantly, I nodded and stood as I waited for her to join me. “Is he in his office?” “I imagine so. Your dad is a hard-working Alpha,” she snickered. Feeling anxious, I headed out of th
Aurora Belmont’s pov “Well, he's fawned over you before you were born but doesn't understand that you are you and not that dreadful Goddess Medeina,” my grandmother huffed. Elated that someone else understood my predicament, I gasped, “Exactly!” Furrowing her brow, my mom appeared confused. “I thought Medeina was a protector of the wolves and forests we live in?” “She is, well, was, but she also enjoyed lots of intimate company even after she and Dante were supposed to be monogamous mates,” Elvina replied. Rubbing my eyes, I groaned. “I fueled his past memories by flirting. I just wanted to get his attention, Goddess. I'm a fool,” I groaned. “Well, we're going to have to get you tested out of pack school now,” my mother huffed as I gave her an apologetic half smile. “Can I join the guard training?” I asked her to lighten the mood. Giving me a stern eye, she told me that we would have to discuss it with my father, and I grinned slightly. “I want to learn the kind
Aurora Belmont’s pov Racing to my bedroom on the verge of weeping, I shut my door before a cascade of tears streamed down my cheeks. “How can he accuse me of being a whore when I haven't even kissed a boy?!” I muttered sullenly. Sinking on the edge of my bed all I could think about was Dante. His long black lashes, silky hair, and his inquisitive golden eyes that I found myself getting lost within. Suddenly, gritting my teeth, I shook my head and dismissed my silly crush. “He will only ever view me as that Medeina and not see that I am ME!” I exclaimed bitterly as I thumped my chest. I may possess her power but my thoughts and person were my own. Feeling the atmosphere shifting, I narrowed my eyes at where Dante appeared and rolled my tear-stained eyes in aggravation. “Great, of course it's you,” I mumbled sourly and noticed that he cringed a little. “I um, I came to apologize. I shouldn't have put my past issues onto you,” he rushed out uncomfortably. Raising my eyebrow I
Eva Belmont ’s pov Aurora jumped up, eyes wide in concern, and jumped over the couch toward Dante. I felt the energy shift and saw the glow around my daughter as she reached his side and took the sword from his hand. “Don't, you can't touch it,” he warned, but she had taken it and laid it down beside herself and asked him what happened. Too shocked to speak, Dante just stared at her with wide eyes. “Speak fool! Where are you hurt?!” She growled at him. Exhaling deeply, he muttered that he just had a tough job but finished it and was sore. Examining him, Aurora huffed and asked, “So out of all this blood, none is yours?” Sitting down on her butt she shook her head and then reached behind herself for his weapon. Grasping the black leather hilt, she lifted it and felt its weight before swiping the air with a grin on her face, hearing the blade sing. “I'm going to take after my mom and become a blade master,” she announced until Dante grabbed his weapon from her as he
