Chapter 3: Her Pain

It was finally the Shadow triplet’s sixteenth birthday, and they were preparing for their birthday party. “Hey sis, you ready?” Kasper asked excitedly.  “No but I guess you and Kycen are.”  She said still unsure of everything.  “You bet I am.”  Kycen said with a twinkle in his eye.  She could feel his excitement and nervousness.  “Kycen what’s up?”  She asked.  Kasper chuckled.  “You don’t want to know.”  He said tucking her hand in the bend of his elbow along with Kycen.  She thought for a moment.  “Eeewww!”  She groaned out.  “That’s something I didn’t need to know.”  She whispered-yelled.  “Oh please, you won’t be saying that when you find your mate.”  He grinned.  This is one time that she was okay with not having her sight.  They walked down the clearing where the party was in full swing.  “You have nothing to worry about, you look amazing, you’re going to be the most beautiful she-wolf there.”  He told her.  “I’m your sister, you’re supposed to say that.”  She giggled.  “Even if I wasn’t your big brother, I’d still say that you’re the most beautiful she-wolf around.”  He nudged her.  “Eeewww.”  She giggled, scrunching her face up.  “Don’t make things creepy.”  She said as she pushed him away lightly.  He chuckled at her.  “What’s so funny?”  Kycen asked walking up to them.  “Nothing just Kasper being gross.”  She said with a disgusted look.  “When is he not being gross?”  Kycen snorted.

“There are my birthday babies.”  Kora cooed.  “Awe mom.”  The boys groaned but Kyde basked in her praise.  “You’re such a mama’s girl.”  Kasper teased.  “Nope, I’m just the favorite.”  She said sticking her tongue out at her brother.  “In your dreams.”  Kycen snorted.  “You’re just jealous.”  She teased back.  “Okay my loves, it’s time to make your entrance.”  Their Aunt Lily and pack Luna clapped her hands in excitement.  “Now boys, Kyde will be standing in between the two of you as you walk down the stairs, so please be careful and step down together.”  “Yeah, don’t throw me down the stairs.”  Kyde giggled.  “Nah…we did that when you were five.”  They both laughed.  When they looked down at her, she’s 5 foot 3 to their 6 foot 3 and she was glaring at them.  “Awe…we would NEVER do that again.”  Kycen bopped his little sister’s nose, and she leaned in to bite him.  “Okay, settle down you three.”  Karson laughed.

“Come along, let’s not keep everyone waiting, it’s getting late.”  Kora told them.  “It’s already 11:30 (pm) and we need to get situated before midnight.”  She reminded them.  Kycen and Kasper escorted Kydence down the stairs out to the porch where pack members greeted and wished them a happy birthday.  The party was in full swing when they walked out to cheers and hoots from their friends.  And to Kydence’s thrill, Andrew was front and center waiting to welcome her.  They spent about twenty minutes visiting with their friends and visiting wolves that were in attendance hoping to find their mate.  As midnight ticked closer Alpha Kelvin steered his nephews and niece to the clearing where the new wolves could shift in privacy with only their family and trusted friends.  It was up to the young shifter to decide if they wanted to shift in front of the pack or not.  Since they weren’t sure what Kyde’s wolf would look like, Kyde decided that it would only be her family.  She was a little self-conscious about shifting but her family assured her that no one would mind as long as there was food and drink, they would be just fine.

Kora had an extra set of cloths ready so they could change after shifting.  Kyde and her brothers wore special robes that would easily tear off as they shift.  “Are you ready?”  Kelvin asked.  “Yeah, but I’m really nervous.”  Kyde said as she bounced on her toes.  “What if we’ve been wrong this whole time and Andrew’s not my mate?”  She questioned.  “Then we will deal with it, and I am sure that the Moon Goddess will gift you with the best male who is worthy of you and your love.”  Kora assured her daughter.  “There is a reason for everything.”  Lily smiled at her niece.

“Now remember, when your shift starts, let your wolf take over, they know what they need to do.  All you have to do is give in to them, if not then the pain will be a lot worse.”  “What it supposed to feel like when the shift starts?”  Kydence asked.  “Your body will start to hurt…”  “Okay then, I think it’s starting.”  Kasper panted out.  “Remember let him take control.”  Karson repeated.  “Daddy!”  Kyde whimpered out.  “It’s okay punkin, just let your wolf take control, she knows exactly what she’s doing.  Let her take over.”  Karson whispered to her.  “Relax, don’t fight her.”  Kora said.  “I know it’s hard, but you can do it.”

The triplets followed the instructions of their parents and allowed their wolf to take over.  “Hello Shadow triplets.”  They heard a female voice echo through their heads.  “Hey sis!”  Two male voices chimed in.  “I’m Kydence’s wolf, Diamond.”  She introduced herself.  “I’m Kasper’s wolf, Rathbone and that idiot over there is Ronan, Kycen’s wolf.  Ronan snorted.  “Uh, HI.”  The trips said in unison.  “Just relax and our shift will be complete in a couple of minutes.”  Rathbone said.  The trips relaxed and allowed their wolf to take over and complete their shift.  Once their shift was completed, they let out a long loud howl up to the Moon Goddess.  “Oh my, such handsome boys.”  Kora smiled and ran her fingers through her son’s fur.  Rathbone sat up straight and allowed his mom to admire him.  Ronan rubbed up against her and released a low contented rumble.  “Such good boys.”  Kora cooed at them.  “Maybe now you can keep your humans outta trouble.”  Both wolves looked at their mom with what would be a smile.  “Now where’s your sister?”  Karson asked shaking his head at his boys.  “Aaawwwooo.”  He heard and turned to face his little girl who was being cuddled by Kolby.  “Look daddy, isn’t she just gorgeous?”  Kolby asked as she admired her big sister.  Kora, Karson and the boys turned to see Kydence’s wolf.  “Punkin, you are gorgeous.”  Karson said as he reached out to pet the top of her head.

Diamond was about 6 ft tall; her fur was a slate grey that shimmered under the moonlight.  Her eyes were grey with a milky white film that covered her eyes, it showed that she had no sight.  “Oh punkin,” Kora lightly sobbed.  “It’s okay mom.”  Kydence assured her mother through their mind link.  “I can see a little, I can make out shapes but not much more.”  She lightly snorted.  “That’s good and we love you no matter what.”  Karson responded.  “Do you want to go out and meet the pack?”  Kelvin asked.  Rathbone and Ronan looked to their little sister, even though she stood about ½ an inch taller than them in wolf form, and she is their little sister, they wanted her to make the decision.  She titled her head and thought and then nodded her head and followed her family to the pack house where everyone was celebrating and waiting to meet them.

“Everyone!  Our guests of honor have arrived.  Help me wish the HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY!”  Alpha Kelvin, their uncle boomed.  After the birthday greetings the siblings stood and slowly sniffed the air.  Kycen tensed and followed the scent of his mate.  When he found her, he engulfed her in a loving embrace and gently kissed her.  “MINE.!”  He whispered in her ear.  “Who is she?”  Kydence asked Kasper.  “It’s Keane, the girl from the ice cream shop.”  “That’s awesome.”  Kydence was happy for her older brother.  “What about you, anything?”  She asked Kasper as an amazing scent started to fill her nose.

“Kyde, it’s our mate.”  Diamond said softly, she sounded as if she was sad.  Just as Kydence was going to say something a sharp pain hits her heart, and she falls to her knees.  “Kyde! What’s wrong?”  Kasper asked kneeling down next to her.  “It’s those pains again.”  She cried as she got to her feet.  “I’m okay.  I promise, but will you come with me?  I think I’ve scented my mate.”  She whispered.  “But Di isn’t going all crazy.  I think something’s wrong.”  She whimpered.

Kasper helped her follow the scent that filled her nose, deep down they both knew what was about to happen but neither of them said it.  They came to an abrupt stop as Kydence inhaled deeply.  “Andrew?”  She whispered.  “So, you found me?”  He said with this back facing her.  “What’s going on?”  She asked fighting back her tears.

“What does it look like is happening?”  He smirked.  “Oh wait, you can’t see a thing, can you?”  He smirked smugly.  “But why?  I’m your mate not her!!!”  Kydence snapped.  “Wrong, you are NOT my mate.”  He spit.  “Why would I want a weak, pathetic, useless she-wolf like you?  When I can have so many others that can satisfy my needs and give me everything I will ever need.”  He smirked.  “How could you do this?”  Kasper yelled.

“How could I not?  You see this beautiful piece of ass in front of me, she’s my mate now.  We have mated and marked one another. So, if you don’t mind…” he said as if nothing was happening.  Actually, I do mind!”  Kydence bellowed.  “You’re hurting my sister with your actions. You have been whoring around knowing that she feels everything and every touch you make!  She has been bearing your betrayal marks for the last three months!  If you are going to go whoring around, then at least release her as your mate!”  Kasper yelled.  “You have no respect for her.  You could have rejected her years ago.  Let her go!”  Kycen growled.  “You can’t even pull out of your whore!”  The female he was with moaned, “he can’t, he’s just knotted me.”  She smiled.  “Babe, please reject her so we can get on with our own life.”  She groaned.  “Anything for you, my love.”  He told her.

“I, Andrew Grady Chambers, Delta for the Shadow Mountain pack, reject you, Kydence Diamond Shadow, as my true fated mate now and forever.”  He grunted as he thrusted one more time into his chosen mate.  “I have no need to ever claim you.”  With that one thrust, Kydence’s heart was shattered and broken.  The one person who promised to love and protect her had already betrayed her before she even knew he was her mate.  She collapsed into her brother’s arms.  “You bastard!”  Kycen yelled.  Kydence was holding her stomach and crying out in pain.  “Daddy!  It hurts?”  She whimpered.  “Please make it stop!”  She pleaded.  “Kora, her medication!”  Karson called out in panic.  Kora dug in her pocket and pulled out a bottle of pills that Dr. Waters left for them.  “Here baby swallow this.”  Kora said putting the pill on Kyde’s tongue.

“Chambers, you will come with us.”  Alpha Kelvin ordered.  “You can’t order him around, you’re not his Alpha anymore.”  Wendy growled.  “Actually yes, I am, he hasn’t cut ties with Shadow Mountain, and I haven’t banished him.  So, that still makes me his Alpha.”  He smirked.  “Now, both of you will come with me.”
