The first few minutes of the car ride were quiet.

I sat stiffly beside Aaron, every part of me aware of his presence.

He had given me a slight nod of acknowledgment when I came down, but that was it.

While his eyes remained fixated on the window, I couldn't help but steal glances at him occasionally.

He looked dapper in his well-tailored tux. Effortlessly powerful and confident. He looked devastatingly handsome. It was maddening.

After what had seemed like forever, he finally turned to me.

“Elizabeth,” his voice was calm, but firm. “I need to throw in some rules”

I rolled my eyes. What rules again this time?

“The way you were dressed earlier today,” He paused slightly, as though choosing his words carefully.

“You are no longer allowed to dress that way around the house, especially when I have visitors… male visitors,” he said.

I shot him a glare, my annoyance building up.

“Excuse me. I had no idea you were even home or that you had a visitor. It must be so sinful for a girl to dress c

  • The Stranger I Met On The Altar   My ex wants me back

ELIZABETH’S POV.I didn't resist when he began guiding me away, his hand still firm on my waist.I felt color form on my cheeks. I was beyond stunned, at what had just happened. My mother’s words, Aaron stepping up to pull me away, and telling my mother off, the proximity of our bodies.“We are leaving right now,” he said leaning closer towards my ears. His hot breath fanned me.I merely nodded, still unable to form my words properly.“My darlings,” came the shrill voice of Joyce Vanderbilt as she bumped into us.Even though I was still rattled, I smiled sweetly at her. I liked the woman. She radiated so much positive energy, the complete opposite of her husband.“Hello Joyce,” I said.“Oh Elizabeth, I can't help but be in awe of your beauty every single time! You look so divine in that dress. So perfect” she gushed, taking my hand in hers. She complimented me. Something my mother would never do.“Thank you,” I said trying not to glance at Aaron who still had his hands on my waist. He

  • The Stranger I Met On The Altar   Pregnancy talks

AARON’S POV.She looked beautiful, my wife. Immediately we entered the hall for the gala, she quickly disappeared from my side, but when i searched for her, i saw her talking with her dad.I was soon engaged in small talk and potential business partners, but that didn't distract me from stealing glances at her often.More often than i wanted. I didn't understand why i did that. But i just couldn't stop myself. When i looked her at again, for what seemed like the hundredth time, our eyes met. She quickly looked away, but my eyes were too silly to do the same. This time i didn't look away quickly, until i saw her walking to a direction. I tipped my head a little to observe where she was headed. She was headed in the direction of her mum and my dad who were discussing.“So Mr Vanderbilt,” the man I had been talking to said, pulling my attention away from Elizabeth.“I am really interested in investing in this new project your company is venturing into. And now that VD Industries has mer

  • The Stranger I Met On The Altar   When Mothers wound

I was itching to hear what my mum and father-in-law were discussing so badly. I was so curious that I decided to go there, even if it meant being in my mum's breathing space.I walked closer to them hoping to catch something before they saw me.Perhaps I didn't move quickly enough because my mum saw me before I could get closer to them.Initially, Charles was backing in my direction, but it seemed my mum had given a signal or something because he suddenly turned and faced me.Shit.I almost wanted to turn back. Mission failed. I didn't want to have a conversation with either of them. But it was too late.“Elizabeth,” Charles said with a smile on his face. “You look beautiful as usual. Where's Aaron?” He asked looking around.I forced a smile and pointed in the direction I had seen Aaron.“I’ll excuse you two then” He gave my mum a knowing glance, and he walked away.My mum looked at him briefly as he left before returning her gaze to me. I tried my best to study their body language b

  • The Stranger I Met On The Altar   Between two fires.

Aaron’s POVWhen we got into the car, I quickly regretted inviting Ryan over.He had this smug irritating grin and I knew he was up to no good.“Damn bro,” he said as he leaned backward “Life is always so fair to you. It's not every day you have a gem handed to you on a platter of gold! You're so lucky man”I groaned. “What nonsense are you on about this time?”“Your wife is smoking hot, fuck! If I had met her even a day before your wedding day, I would have convinced her to jilt you for me, and we would run away to some islands, I'm not joking”“Was that why you looked like you wanted to undress her there and then?”He laughed. That motherfucker.“Was it noticeable? Those bare thighs though. Does she walk around the house like that? I wouldn't resist the urge to bend her over every single time if I were in your shoes”I clenched my jaw subconsciously. “Don't talk about my wife..” I stopped myself “Don’t talk about Elizabeth in that manner”That familiar mischievous glint returned to

  • The Stranger I Met On The Altar   Cruel timing

Elizabeth’s POV.I was cooped up in my room for a week. I didn't step out. Everything I needed was brought up to my room by either Heather or Anna. But earlier today, Heather came up with a note from Aaron saying we had a gala to attend. It was to celebrate the successful merger of Knight Corp and VD Industries, meaning my parents would be there.I squirmed at the thought of seeing my mother.“How could he give me less than 12hours’ notice? I have nothing to wear!” I exclaimed to Heather.“A stylist is waiting downstairs for you ma'am. I can call her up if you don't feel like going down” Heather responded. My face lit up at the sound of that. “Stylist? Who sent for the stylist? Please don't tell me it's my mother”“Mr. Aaron sent for the stylist ma'am. Should I send her up?”“No. I'll be down in a minute”She nodded and left.I rolled my eyes at the thought of Aaron sending a stylist. It was a good thing since he had informed me at very short notice. Who even does that? He must have t
