Chapter 1

As soon as I stepped through the Pack's archway, my parents, Marcus and Margaret, were already blocking my path.

Marcus used the Alpha's Command on me to force me to speak. "Before Sophia passed out, she told us you took her antidote!"

Even under the pressure, I simply answered coldly, "She was already poisoned by the vampire's poison. You're really going to trust the word of someone who's out of it?"

He was trembling with rage as his claws shot out, and he lunged at me. I easily moved to the side, and he missed me.

Margaret stood to the side and spoke in a hurt tone, "Anna, don't you know how much your sister, Sophia, cares about you?! She got hurt protecting you. She wouldn't have lied!"

My mother was right!

Ever since Sophia had come back to the pack and was confirmed as Marcus's biological daughter, she had never once blamed me, the one who had been adopted. Instead, she treated me better than any real sister would.

Whenever we went out and ran into danger and I didn't have enough strength, Sophia would step in front of me.

She was also the one who had originally suggested going with me to the Shadow Forest. If I passed the trial, I would finally form a formal bond with the Pack.

I had just killed the beast that had harassed the Pack for a long time when a dozen vampires burst out of the bushes and instantly surrounded Sophia. I did not even have time to wipe the beast's blood off me.

Their leader moved so fast that all I saw was a blur. Then, the silver blade laced with poison in his hand had already cut open Sophia's throat. Blood spilled from Sophia's neck as she looked at me, her eyes full of despair.

I did not move to save her.

Instead, I took the vial of antidote from Sophia's belt during the confusion.

The memory of what happened made me laugh coldly. "I was also doing everything I could to escape back then. I had no time to worry about her."

"You traitor!" Marcus snapped, his voice shaking.

After what happened to Sophia, Marcus had been busy taking care of her, and he hadn't managed to get any rest at all. His eyes were completely sunken, and his face looked worn out.

He stopped releasing his aura, and he started pleading with me instead. "Margaret and I saved you and brought you home all those years ago, and we raised you like our own. Have we ever treated you badly? We took you into the pack, yet you still chose to betray us!

"Sophia is our only biological daughter. Even if you don't care about kinship, shouldn't you at least be loyal to the pack?!"

Seeing how grief had taken its toll on him and made him look even more worn out, my chest tightened. However, my voice was still just as cold as I said, "I'm just a Beta. How could I possibly steal the antidote from the Alpha's daughter? Don't blame me for everything."

"Blame it on you?" Marcus finally exploded, and his aura began to warp because of his fury as his claws came toward me again.

Once again, I stepped sideways and dodged the attack. However, Marcus's claws slashed his own arm instead. Blood poured out of the deep gash in no time.

"Alpha, are you alright?!" Margaret cried, immediately rushing to his side to check the wound.

However, her scream drew the other werewolves over.

"Isn't that the Alpha's adopted daughter?"

"I heard a venom-coated blade was used to cut Sophia's throat while she was protecting her adopted sister, Anna. But not only did she leave Sophia to die, she even stole the antidote."

"What a selfish werewolf! It must be because she's jealous Sophia was born with the Alpha's blood!"

Sophia's fiancé, Lucian, rushed over upon hearing the commotion.

Lucian and I had grown up together.

Before Sophia came back, I had been his chosen mate. But after she came back, Fate had finally revealed the savage truth.

Sophia was Lucian's destined mate.

Standing before the bond decided by the Moon Goddess, all the determination that a fake like me had was shattered.

Sophia knew how I felt, so she had never gotten too close to Lucian in front of me. She had even kept finding excuses to push the ceremony back.

"So what?" I said coldly. "I met Lucian first. Sophia's only trying to make herself feel less guilty."

Margaret gritted her teeth as she said, "Anna, how could you be so vicious?! It was all because Sophia was missing back then that you even had the chance to stand in for her as the future Luna! How could you claim Lucian as your mate anymore?!"

The people around us agreed as well.

"Exactly! Anna stole an identity that was never hers to begin with!"

Lucian's gaze was filled with disappointment. He had always thought I was just a little hotheaded but ultimately someone kind. He had never imagined I could be this vicious.

I was done listening as I turned and walked toward the pack's compound.

My parents transformed in a heartbeat, using their giant wolf bodies to block my path again. "If you don't hand over Sophia's antidote today, you're not leaving this place!"

The accusations around me were getting louder and louder, almost as though they were trying to drown me in them. The pack all started shouting at me.

"Treacherous traitor!"

I shut their voices out and looked toward the distant Shadow Forest. That was where the Vampires had attacked Sophia.

I still remembered how Sophia had smiled at me before we left. "Anna, once you officially join the Pack Bond, you can protect me then!"

Her dimples really showed when she smiled.

There was a bitterness in my mouth.

Because I was truly the one who had taken her antidote.

When I took the vial of antidote from her belt, her blood had stained my hands.

Her eyes had been full of pain and confusion.

I had a very long dream. In that dream, there were no Vampires, no silver chains, and no disdainful stares.I was still that little cub running around in the snow, my father lifting me high into the air while my mother followed behind, laughing as she told us to be careful…-When I opened my eyes, sunlight was pouring through the tall window and onto the warm blankets. This was not the dungeon. This was the best room in the pack's compound. Only Sophia had stayed here in the past.I moved my fingers, and my body felt light as a feather. The wounds on my wrists had faded into pale silver lines. That was the proof that a bond had been forged."When will you wake up?" A familiar voice came from beside the bed.I turned my head around, only to see Sophia sitting in a chair next to me. She wore a long white robe, looking healthier than ever, with a soft halo of holy light around her. She held a damp cloth as she gently wiped my hands. When she saw my eyes open, the towel slipped

My blood went into Sophia's mouth and into her throat.Suddenly, Sophia's body went rigid, and light burst from every pore. The black lines on her skin began to quickly retreat as if they had been exorcised from her body. The healing was brutally painful as my blood was mending her body and soul. Sophia let out low growls repeatedly. That was her Wolf Soul being stitched back together by force. At the same time, I could feel the power inside me draining fast. With every drop of blood that left my body, my mind grew a little more hazy."Stop! Stop it!" Marcus finally managed to escape from the vampires and rushed toward us, his voice shaking so hard it barely sounded like him. He stared at my face that was becoming paler as every second passed. He finally understood the price of all this."Anna… That's enough! You're going to die!" He tried to shove me away, but the moonlight energy flowing out of my body threw him back. That energy pushed everything away in nature. Until the cleans

Flames roared over the compound with the stench of blood mixed with the smell of burned fur.A dozen vampires were circling overhead. With every dive, they took another werewolf's life.Marcus, in his massive wolf form, stood in front of the door to the room where Sophia was resting. His back was covered in claw marks, and the blood made it hard to see. Inside the room, Margaret was holding the frail Sophia as she sobbed. Lucian swung his longsword, guarding them. However, there were just far too many vampires. With the core of the barrier collapsing, the pack's power had been severely reduced.I saw Cyrus moving with the crowd, pretending to cast defensive spells while quietly bending the path of incoming attacks. He wanted to use this chaos to wipe out the current Alpha and his bloodline for good."That traitor got out!" Someone spotted me and shouted.Marcus turned his head, and his golden pupils burned with wild hatred. "Anna! How dare you show yourself!"He roared, dropped

As Lucian dragged me away, the pack continued hurling their curses at me.I could not stop myself from looking back, only to see Sophia staring at me. The sorrow in her eyes scared me more than any poison.I closed my eyes.-Once I was in the dungeon, the darkness consumed me completely. I curled up on the cold stone floor as every small movement caused me unbearable pain. It was a reminder that my body was being torn apart. From outside the door came the sounds of branches being snapped as someone walked over them. Then, the bolt on the iron door was slid open.Cyrus stepped inside the cell.In the dim, flickering light, the face that had appeared so stern and virtuous in the daylight now looked malevolent and twisted. He stopped in front of me and lifted my chin up with the toe of his boot. "Oh, Anna. You're still just as stubborn."I forced my eyes open and spat a mouthful of blood at that face full of deception. "Cyrus... You're scared."The edge of Cyrus's eye twitched.

Inside the vial was a thick, black liquid. When a drop hit the ground, it sizzled as it corroded the ground. The smoke was so biting that it made it difficult for Richard to open his eyes. This was not the golden Moonlight Antidote. This was Void Poison, the deadliest toxin known to werewolves. It could make one's soul wither before it devoured the flesh.Marcus stared at the spreading black stain by his boots."This..." He muttered under his breath before looking up at me, and the disgust in his eyes hurt me more than he would ever know. "This is what you have in your pouch?! You've been carrying this very thing that can kill your sister?!"My mother let out a broken scream as her knees buckled, and she collapsed to the ground. The pack also let out a collective gasp. That was when the Great Elder, Cyrus, stepped over the doorway. He was the oldest werewolf in the pack. He had never stopped preaching about virtue and justice, but his heart was colder than anyone else's.He po

  • The Traitor and the Betrayed   Chapter 3

Sophia staggered toward us, her once healthy face now pale as a sheet, her once full cheeks hollowed as the vampire's poison spread through her veins.Lucian ran over to support her. "Sophia, don't push yourself. The effect of the witch's potion is wearing off. If you get too worked up, your wounds will only get worse."Sophia endured her sorrow and looked straight at me, tears welling in her eyes. "Anna, did those vampires threaten you and make you take my antidote? If you're in trouble, you have to tell me, tell Mom and Dad! We won't blame you!"My heart ached as I watched her still fighting to keep me safe despite being in such a frail state. However, I hardened my heart as that moment passed and said in a harsh tone, "Enough with the pathetic act. Since when have I ever taken your antidote?!"Sophia's eyes widened. "What are you saying?"I looked at her with contempt. "I'm saying that you're framing me for something I didn't do."Her tears finally spilled over, dripping onto
