Chapter 1

Werewolves.

Two things mattered the most to them.

Bond and territory.

But Tomasi Astra of Blue Rose pack did not care about either. While everybody fought to find their mates, she couldn't care about getting one. If she did, no problem and if she didn't, all was well. The female believed in freedom, and not having to be tied down and she felt bad for those that were mated to douchebags, jerks, murderers, and so on. She felt bad that they had no other option than to accept it because they were fated. She didn't like that. Fate or not, she would choose whoever she wanted.

The freckled redhead was the opposite of her twin sister. Alba Tomasi was happily mated but then again, her mate, Ezra was a total sweetheart.

While Alba found her mate when the girls were just at the ripe age of eighteen, she already had a child by the time she was nineteen. Now, twenty-four, Astra was playing aunt to a five-year-old Jakob.

Raine had done a very good job raising her daughters, one was mated and the other was going to be mated soon, she hoped.

Astra knew just how much her mother wanted her to find her mate. Of course, there was a bit of pressure on her but Raine tried her best not to be prejudiced over the two girls but Astra could sense it, she knew her mother wanted to carry her pups too.

So although Astra didn't give two flying knocks about mates, she also gave a flying knock about it because of her mother.

Alba is an idiot, Astra repeated in her head as she counted the loaves of bread.

"I'm not an idiot." Her twin sister replied as if she knew what the other had just said telepathically.

"Really? then why haven't you delivered to the warehouse yet?"

"Because I-Just do it." Alba pouted, batting her long eyelashes at the identical twin who rolled her eyes as she arranged the bread.

"It's been almost six years since you got married. You have a son and you're still running around with your mate like a teenager. I can't believe you did it here."

"We didn't, Ezra didn't wanna get caught so we went home and had a quickie," Alba responded.

"Wow, you should have spent the whole day home then."

"Then what's the point of a quickie?" Alba answered missing the sarcasm.

Astra began to separate the bread into different delivery bags ignoring her sister's comment. "You know I love you right?" Alba hugged her from behind.

"Ew, don't touch me. You smell like sex."

"You smell like a virgin," her sister retorted.

Astra froze before turning around to glare at her sister. Alba smiled nervously before backing away. "I was only joking, I know you're waiting for your mate."

"You used to smell like a virgin and then Ezra happened and I'm not waiting for my mate, just a little bit asexual."

"I understand and I was asexual until I met Ezra. Just like yours is going to happen".

"No, you were just a timid virgin but thanks. Please get to work." The older twin, Astra ascertained.

Alba tried to pick a loaf of bread but her sister yelled before she could. "Wait!"

Alba furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Please wash your hands." her sister pleaded.

She rolled her eyes but did as she was told. Alba and Astra Tomasi were paternal twins with Astra being three minutes older. Just like many other families, they had also lost their father to the war when they were just toddlers.

Ah, the Great War.

The war claimed the lives of almost all the male werewolves and pregnant she-wolves. It had been a war between the mundanes, vampires, and werewolves. The mundanes against these two supernatural races.

The war claimed many lives, destroyed many homes, and separated many lovers. After the war was over, werewolves began to move around becoming nomads until they finally settled again away from mundanes and all was as well as it could be now.

Their mother, Raine had opened her bakery business and it wasn't long before she became popular as her twins were supportive. She was happy when her first twin, Alba found her mate at eighteen and she had expected her second twin, Astra to find her mate soon after Alba.

Right from birth, the girls did everything together so it was quite confusing to the mother when after five years of Alba finding her mate, Astra was still mateless.

"I know I can't force it but how do you expect to find your mate if you're always in the house or the bakery?" the poor woman had ranted to Astra earlier in the day before Astra had gone to the bakery to meet a sex-smelling Alba.

"Mom, just give it a rest."

"But I want to see my grandchildren," her mother pressed on.

"You already have a grandchild. You can't even handle Jakob and you want more already? Don't worry, I think Alba is planning to give you another one very soon."

"This isn't about your sister. This is about you," her mother frowned.

"But I don't want it to be about me," Astra whined.

"Well, it is."

"What do you even expect me to do? Put up flyers saying 'Astra Tomasi is in need of a mate, all single he wolves should come to EatMore bakery to find out the lucky guy'. Is that what you want, mom?"

"Maybe if you didn't stay indoors all the time, he might bump into you or something. Oh, you think he's just going to come here and knock on my door?"

"Mooom."

"No, you have to meet him first. Make eye contact and it won't happen if you're staring at flour all the time."

"Maybe I'll make a flour mate."

"How about a real one? that the moon goddess gave you. I heard there's an Alpha at the pack house, make sure you go there."

"You really think my mate is an alpha?" She knew how clingy and possessive Alphas can be. Why would the moon goddess give her one when she didn't even care much about mates?

"Why not? it is possible," her mother shrugged.

Astra had simply rolled her eyes and kissed her mother's cheeks before leaving for the bakery. "Tell your sister to stop by!" Raine yelled after her.

"Okay!"

"And tell her to bring Jakob."

After Alba found her mate, she moved out of the house to go stay with her mate leaving Astra and her mother in the two-bedroom house.

"When are you going to deliver the Grand Luna's bread?" Astra asked.

"Uhm as soon as I'm done packing these, she asked for three packs of white bread. I heard they're back from the supernatural meeting."

"I'm sure Ezra will give you the scoop later."

"Oh which reminds me. Did you hear the alpha has found his mate?"

"No."

"She's mute. I think her name is Diya. She hasn't left his room since she arrived in the pack."

"How do you know all these?" Astra asked her sister.

"Ezra's sister works at the pack house. Hey, maybe you should go to the pack house and I'll deliver the bread to the warehouse."

"No, thank you."

"It will be fun. Hopefully, You'll get to see that guy with pretty eyes," Alba nudged her shoulder.

"He's not my mate." Astra rolled her eyes playfully.

"But he's still an eye candy. Seriously, I think he has the hots for you."

Astra sighed and looked at her sister.

"If go, will you drop the matter?"

"If I do, do you think your mother will?"

"Ugh don't remind me and she's our mother."

"Just go," Alba pushed the delivery bag Into her hand and began to nudge her gently towards the door.

"Fine," Astra groaned and her sister chuckled.

"You'll thank me later."
