Calm Soul

It looked like a beautiful summer evening, the sky, a deep shade of orangish-red, with hints of purple and pink. I could hear the crashing and falling of the waves as I closed my eyes to feel the moment with my soul. It was truly a serene sight, the turquoise waves highlighted by the sunlight and the crisp, light wind on my face healed my tormented soul.

"Hey Mez, it's time we got back, everyone's waiting for you," Evin whispered not wanting to break the calm of the moment.

"Yeah I know, where are we though?"

"Your soul."

"My soul? What do you mean?"

"Haha, I'll explain once we're back, now open your eyes."

*******

I awoke to see the familiar cream walls of my dorm, as I tried to sit up my head felt rather light, but I felt very much at ease. Wait, what happened last night? Memories from last night suddenly came flooding back, the forbidden garden, the blue rose, blue rain everywhere, tears, and an overwhelming sense of relief. I think I passed out due to the strong energy of that place, but I had a good sleep with no nightmares, hmm, that dream was rather strange however. The dream seemed eerily real, I could still feel the wind on my face and the beautiful scenery remained clearly etched in my mind. Evin said that it was my soul, what did he mean?

Wait where is everyone?

I looked around and saw that my room was empty, I guessed everyone must've gone for breakfast. I decided to take a shower and get dressed in the meantime, everyone would be back in a while. Just as I was done, I heard voices outside the door. Evin seemed to have completely forgotten the concept of knocking before entering and just barged in with a cartload of snacks. I guessed this was something he normally did as Victor and Katy seemed very unbothered by his jocularity.

"Mez, are you alright?" Katy asked worriedly, "Where in the world did you go walking with him at the midnight? you were completely out when Evin bought you back! Even though he says that you're bound to feel a ton better, I'm not trusting it until it comes from you!"

"Haha he wasn't lying about that Katy, I do feel a thousand times better actually, I don't know what he did, but from how I feel at the moment, I can say that I am perfectly fine!"

"Mez...you don't have to be too kind, you can be honest, but hmm.. you do look a lot better than before, Evin what in the hell did you do?!" Victor looked surprised like he didn't expect anything good to come out of Evin being involved.

"See, I told you my skills are a ton better than three years ago Victor, I did a healing spell, and it worked! c'mon guys I'm not a kid anymore, I know my stuff. Don't worry I would never mess with Mez's life until unless I was absolutely sure about it."

"Good gods, I really can't believe that Evin actually did something as complex as a healing spell without messing it up, I guess it must have been the strong energy of that place that knocked you out Mez, anyways we're really glad you're feeling better," Katy said with a sigh of relief.

"Thank you all for your concern, and you too Evin, my mind is very much at ease now, actually, I have a lot to ask you and..."

"Hold up Mez, let's go out and discuss that shall we?"

"Huh, why should she follow you Evin? why can't you just discuss it here?"Victor asked.

"Hey I cant explain things to her with you and Katy breathing down my neck, I'm heading out now! Mez you can follow me if you want, but I can only give answers outside." Evin said with a smug smile, he was deliberately doing that to annoy Katy and Victor alright.

Since Evin couldn't do much in broad daylight, Victor figured it was ok to let me go with him, he felt like an overly anxious father letting go of his daughter to an obnoxiously stupid groom. Evin decided that today we go to the training grounds outside to discuss the myriad of mysteries that I was curious about. What really surprised me was the sheer contrast in his demeanor as compared to now and last night. He felt like two completely different people at the same time. He was all cool and goofy now, whereas last night when he stood up after touching the rose he looked like someone who was broken apart so much, that one could not bear to imagine the lengths of pain that he must've endured. There was so much sadness and despair in his eyes in addition to a perpetual sense of loneliness that haunted his soul.

I felt like whatever spell he did, didn't just heal me, he too was healed in the process, although I couldn't tell whether or not he was aware of that. He seemed to be a natural at hiding his emotions, almost no one could tell what he truly felt by talking to him, from the way he always playfully teased everyone and joked around it was impossible to tell. He hid his true self behind layers of impenetrable walls, but yesterday I got a glimpse of what he was hiding. Secrets covered over with more secrets and feelings of guilt and loneliness so strong, it would shatter oneself.

He was hiding a lot, and I felt that a huge chunk of those secrets had something to do with me...

As we approached the outdoor training arena, the sun was setting, and the sky mirrored the colors I had seen in my dream. My soul felt calm and at ease, I felt like I had gotten myself back. Even though my memories had not returned I felt like some part of me that had broken had been mended. Tears filled my eyes as I felt my being return to myself. I had been feeling like an empty shell since the moment I had come here, but now I felt curiosity and excitement surge through every inch of my being, I felt like the adventurous Mez that Katy talked about.

"This scene looks familiar to you, doesn't it, welcome back Mez," Evin said,

"Yeah, I sure hope I have, I hope I'm not dreaming, it feels good to have myself back!" I smiled as tears of joy streamed down my face.

Evin came up to me and gave me a warm hug, "You're home now Mez."
