Lauretta’s Pov

The driver pulled up before the venue, came down from the limo, then opened the door for us. My mom got down first, then I followed suit.

“You look sad. What is it, my child?” My mom asked me; the worry not leaving her face.

“The press. They should be here taking pictures and flooding them on social media. How are my friends going to know that I attended this party in a limo?” I grumbled.

“Come on, sweets. We can always take pictures ourselves.”

“Yes, I know. But wouldn’t it be honorable if they saw the videos and pictures on the top bloggers’ page? They would be so shocked, especially the ones who doubted me.”

“True but you shouldn’t jump to conclusions. I am sure the press are inside. Maybe two or three. You know this is a private party and it was hard to get a pass too. Don Travous probably wants to respect and protect the privacy of his guests.” Rhoda said but I was still not convinced. I already envisioned how today was meant to be. By this time, I was to be po

Shawn’s Pov “I thought it was my secretary.” I mumbled.“Your secretary? Don’t tell me you left your sick wife at home when you can clearly work from home.” Kelvin scolded.I let go of the paper I was holding so I could focus on the call.I said nothing.“Come on, Shawn. What’s more important than your wife’s health?” “I’m busy, Kelv. Why did you call?” I spoke, knowing I had no strength left in me to engage in any banter.“Why are you this rigid? I called to ask how Cassie is doing. I thought you both were already getting along pretty well?” “The pain has subsided, and I’m following up with the doctor. Doreen will keep an eye on her while I’m away.” I answered. “That’s not the trait of a good husband. She needs you now more than ever.” Kelv pushed.“No, she doesn’t,” I responded.“Did she tell you that, or are you just making up stories for me so I can let you be?” I heaved a deep sigh. “We are presently not on good terms, but that doesn’t mean I do not care about her. I’ve got

Shawn’s Pov Yes, I was angry because my wife put her life in danger over a misunderstanding that could have been cleared up in minutes if she had opened up to me. I was also mad at myself for not going after her immediately when she left the table and most importantly, I was pissed to know that Stella did all of these and made her believe her nasty statements. But I started to hate myself all over again when tears rolled down Cassie’s cheeks.I puffed out some air, then brought my hand up to wipe her tears but she slapped my hand away before I could touch her face. “Don’t touch me.” She sniffled, glaring at me at the same time.“ I shouldn’t have let you leave my side in the first place. I know I said some harsh words, but it’s the truth. I care about you, but sometimes you really push me to the edge. Stella is my ex, of course, she’s not going to tell you anything good about me.”“So, she didn’t leave you because you were not ready to start a family?” Cassie challenged. Those were

Cassie’s Pov It took a while for my vision to clear after I had opened my eyes. I was sleeping on my side, and opposite me was a single couch that Shawn occupied. I think he passed the night there. He was still putting on the outfit he wore last night. The only things he discarded were his jacket and shoes. He looked really uncomfortable. I let out a soft groan as I sat up, being careful of my hand.Shawn opened his eyes, then rushed to my side as fast as his legs could carry him. He placed a kiss on the side of my forehead before taking a seat opposite me. His eyes were filled with worry, and he looked so exhausted. As though he hardly had any sleep last night. “How are you? Are you still in pain?” He asked with a hoarse voice, staring at me intently. He reached for my hand. Not the one I sprained, but I pulled away.I didn’t miss the hurt in his eyes. “Are you still mad at me?” I said nothing, even though I stared at him in return. “I would rather you hit me or shout at me th

Shawn’s POV I stared in confusion because all of this was just so hard to comprehend. I shook my head. “We were cool, but when I came back to the table, she seemed pretty upset. Then she excused herself.” “This is probably not the right time to say this, but I don’t think she was happy seeing you with your ex.” Kelvin voiced out. I arched my brow. “You know it’s work, right? I would not have called Cassie to the stage and then gone running after another woman moments later.” “I know! So it’s best to appoint someone else to take over your negotiations with her.” My younger brother advised. “I’m sorry to interfere, but I don’t think this conversation is important. At least for now. As much as I would love to believe that she had an accident, I know it’s not. I have a feeling she was attacked, but she wouldn’t say anything to me. She just kept crying because she was in pain.” Kelvin’s Girl said. I ran my fingers through my hair while letting out a very loud puff. Cassie had very

Lauretta’s POV “Take that food away or else I’ll make a mess and I won’t feel sorry about it.” I sniffed. My mom was seated beside me, holding a tray that contained a plate of pasta.“Yeah, I know you hate me so much right now, but you need to eat. You’ve not had anything all day because of your excitement for tonight. Eat your food first, then we will think of the way forward.” Rhoda pleaded.“I don’t deserve to eat anything. The one thing I wanted has been taken away from me. Let me just starve to death since life seems to be against me.” I brought my hands to my face and wiped tears off the corners of my eyes. I had taken off my so-called designer dress and was now in my nightwear. I had taken my makeup off, too. Same with my mom. “No, my child. You do not deserve to die.”“I know this is partly my fault, but I wouldn’t have known because they appeared to be poor before me. I mean, why would I be rich and then disguise myself to be crippled? Or why the hell would I be rich and w

Cassie’s POV “You okay?” Tessa asked, bringing me out of my thoughts. “Yeah, yeah!” I mumbled, trying to shrug off the itchy feeling in my eyes. “You don’t seem as cheerful as you were. Did I say anything to offend you?” “I’m sorry!” She added, looking guilty already. “No, no, it’s fine. She doesn’t attend events anymore?” I reiterated. Tessa nodded. “Stella used to be very outgoing. Always present at high-class events, but it changed when she got married. She wasn’t even at the company’s anniversary last month.” I arched a brow at Tessa. She smiled shyly. “I work at her Father’s company.” “But you are cool. Very pretty and nice. I like you for Shawn. Even though I don’t really like him.” She said, I don’t know if it was the tone of her voice or the distaste in her eyes when she spoke about not liking Shawn that made me chuckle. I think I was grateful for that as it eased my tension from what I saw earlier. “Why?” I asked. “And here I was, thinking he had so many fans.” “He

Cassie’s Pov The desk I was seated on was so perfect. It was as though it was made for us because Shawn could comfortably fuck me on it. It was only now I realized how hard silent sex was. It was difficult stuffing in my moans because I didn’t want anyone to suspect us, especially when the sex was so good. “I’ve been wanting to do this since I saw you in this dress.” “Your cock!” I moaned as I felt my eyes heavy with tears. Tears of pleasure! There was something so different about the way Shawn was making love to me right now. His pace was not fast and neither was it slow. It was just perfect and what made it more intense was the fact that we couldn’t touch each other as much as we wanted so as not to ruin our dress or my makeup. It felt as though we were trying to be good kids while slightly violating the rules. “What about it, baby?” His voice filled with desire as he continued to drill me.“Feels so good.” I moaned. Shawn pulled me down from the table, he bent me over the de

Lauretta’s POV “Cassie’s name as one of the donors of Risseus? Are you freaking kidding me?” I challenged Joel, ignoring whatever my mom said. “What did she even do to deserve that? It’s hardly a month since she got married and she did to a cripple. Not Shawn. I really do not understand what is going on but Shawn is not being truthful either.” I said at a go, ignoring the tricks that my mind was playing on me about Cassie having a better life than me.“I get that you are furious but I am only telling you what I know. That document didn’t look fake and besides, my uncle instantly got a text from the estate company, congratulating him on being a resident.”“What?” I said in disbelief, my eyes wide. “Also, he wouldn’t want to ruin his reputation before his father and brother,” Joel said.I frowned. “His father and brother are in there?” “When we got to the dessert table, you left me to go attend to some people.” I shook my head. “That was my step-sister, her lover, and her asshole fa

Lauretta’s Pov “How dare you lay your filthy hands on my…….” My mother challenged, about to hit Cassie in the face but Cas held Rhoda’s hand halfway, stopping her before she even finished making her sentence. She pushed my mom and soon enough, my mother was on the floor beside me. I was confused as to how she had the power to toss us away like we weighed nothing. “Don’t you dare call me names in your life anymore!” Cassie warned, pointing at us as though we were some piece of shit.“You all, don’t mind her, please.” My mom started to defend us because truly, the situation was embarrassing. Being treated like this before the cream of society means we were done for good. I brought my finger up to my face and wiped tears away from the corner of my eyes. “She’s an ungrateful child. Ever since she lost her parents, I have been the one taking care of her and fending for her but just look at how she repaid me for all the love that I showered on her?” my mom sniffled. “I loved her even mor
