“clara? Clara?” someone called out to me in a hushed tone.

I fluttered my lashes, managing to raise my weak head from the cold floor I laid on. “mm.”

Mabel peeked at my face with concern in her eyes. “oh my goodness child. see what they have done to you?” she whimpered, dabbing my face with a wet handkerchief.

I managed to smile. Having someone aside my parent worry over me is something new that I haven’t encountered in the past five months. “thank you.” I mouthed.
