Chapter 9- Elnora POV
The second the door closes, questions burst from me. “What does this have to do with your father? What lineage do you have? What Kingdom has better care? What is happening?” Pulling my feet from Fulton’s hands, I demand the answers. “We will tell you in the car,” Merrick announces, removing my shoes from my bag. “Why not tell me now?” “The walls have ears,” Talvin responds. “Promise you will tell me in the car?” I verify. “We will start the conversation in the car, yes.” Merrick agrees. “Start it?” “Yup! Get dressed,” Fulton calls as they all leave my room. They have closed me in my room with nothing but the sound of the machines beeping and my frantic nerves.
I sit upon the side of the bed and look out at the darkening day. Something in the parking lot catches my eye and g
Chapter 10- Elnora POVBrogan is running full speed towards our car. I am not the only one who can see this happening. “Step on it,” My voice taking on a new tone of hatred on its own as I sit back in my chair and close my eyes to the man nearing my window. I don’t want to see him, and I don’t care to hear him. I just want to go home. Home, it is no longer home. It is the home he wanted, close enough to work yet far enough from everything important to me to stay put in the house. As we pull from the hospital parking lot and get a few blocks away, Merrick slows down. “I am so sorry, Mom. We tried not to let you see that.” His voice is caring and soft. “How long have you boys known?” I ask through my tears as I look out my window. “Fulton told Merrick and me a little while ago. I was under the impression of something else,
Chapter 11- Elnora POV“So not only do we have the fullest level of protection available, no one, including the vampire in question, will be permitted to harm us. If a breach ever were to occur, we would receive guards. The reason we must go to their Kingdom is for two reasons, they want you to gain your strength and courage to move on from Dad, and because they are going to help you support us for the next ten years.” “Why would they help us?” I ask in wonder. “He has labeled the three of us Human Prince’s, and you are the Human Princess. I don’t know what all that will mean for all of us, but it is better than him just taking us as your husband had arranged.” “That is a big honor.” “There is something else you should know.” “What is that?” “The vampire in question” “Yes?” “He is the King of Northern Vampires; his word is the law.” “You
Chapter 12- Merrick’s POV My mind has been reeling all afternoon. Everything that I had suspected and had known to be true is, in fact, true. I still remember the day my father had cornered me in my room and demanded all my books and research. I begged and bartered to the best of my ability to change his mind, and each passing word only fueled his rage and hatred. I watched in horror as my father took my items to the backyard and tossed them into our burn barrel. I thought I would rummage through and save what I could later, that was until he came out with lighter fluid and a lighter. He lit a single sheet of paper and watched it engulf in flames. His wicked eyes turned to lock on me. At that moment, I had lost all respect for this man. Everything I did became between my mother and myself. I did not need him to teach me to drive or do homework. I wanted nothing from him. That was eig
Chapter 13- TalvinTalvin’s POV “RUN,” the voice bellowed in my mind snapping me from the frozen position I was residing. “This way,” I screamed to my family, leading them around the backside of our house. “We need to get in the car and get out of here!” My mom’s voice calling over my shoulder warned. “We can’t drive where we are going,” Fulton calls out to her. The noise of the crushing fence behind us pushes us to run faster than before. “I need a knife!” I call in the direction of Merrick. My knives were all taken from me a few years ago. When I was entering the Kingdom almost daily, my parents thought that I was self-harming by cutting. In their defense, my hands and arms were starting to look mangled. The therapist thought it was best for all sharp objects to be removed from my life. My parents even placed the ki
14- Elnora POV Taking a step through the open doors, I walk into a Victorian Era style living room. The delicate designs catch my interest as we walk through the room, none more eye-catching than a wooden carving in the center. “What is this piece?” I ask Sabastian as I come to a halt in front of it. My hand is moving eagerly to caress the deep colors and swooping designs. “Please don’t touch Princess. That piece is a personal item of the King.” His sorry state piques my interest even more. “My apologies. I don’t know what overcame me.” I return a brief smile and motion that I am ready to continue our tour. Every item has a proper home, nothing out of place. The thought of being in such a pristine home gives me shivers of excitement. “Do you have a certain thread count you would like for your sheets, Princes
15- Elnora POV “Look out there. What do you see?” He asks, pointing over a small section of town. “A town and people walking around.” “Those people over there are some of the scariest beings I have ever encountered. I had to work with them.” “Did they hurt you?” “Oh no. Let me be clear. Besides my father beating the crap out of me, the only thing that hurt me here was myself getting in. My blood isn’t needed to go home, just to come in. You see, the King offered me a position in helping other children like me, who were beaten and couldn’t speak; I would allow them to have a voice. I would draw the attention of the child during the day. I would look for any questionable marks on them, and I would give them a small red flag. I would tell them that if they ever needed help and wanted their abuser to be stopped without any harm coming to them, or them announcin
16- Elnora POV Fulton’s voice is on repeat in my mind. “You also marked him. So do not think much of it. We are already on board with our new stepdad.” Making my way back into the living room, I look around. “I wonder if I have been here before?” I question myself as I run my hand along the back of the couch. Deciding to get a drink before checking out my room for the night, I head to the fridge. “Oh my!” I squeak. Before me in the refrigerator sits rows of my favorite ice coffee. On each shelf holds a label with our names on them with our favorite items. “They outdid themselves.” My smile overtakes my eyes and brings a threat of tears to them. Taking a coffee out, I take a long swig and sigh. This is by far the best coffee I have ever tasted. I must get the recipe from Sabastian; I conclude an
17- Elnora POVA gentle knock at the door sounds. “It's open!” We all call in unison. Hands going wild trying to catch the fast little critter. “I am here to announce,” Sabastian trails off as he witnesses the four of us on the ground laughing together, going after something he cannot see. “Could I be an assistance?” His words filled with confusion. Laughing, I pull myself from the ground and make my way to his side. “Good evening Sabastian.” “Good evening Princess. May I ask what kind of game you are all playing?” Intrigue laced upon his face. “It is not a game. The boys caught a lizard and were planning on playing a joke on me. I startled them, and the lizard escaped. We were trying to pick it up.” I laugh, watching the boys dive for it again just before it slipped under the couch. “I see. If you would like, I can catch it for them?” “Got it!” Merrick
