Wonder why the little people were attacked? Let me know your thoughts.
JOSH POV My teammates act as a team but, they still look out for themselves. Playing as a team will further their own careers, but if they can throw you under the bus to advance even further, then they will and not think twice about it, especially if it gets them a bigger contract. But here… Blue Meadow pack members are so very different. They literally lay down their lives for one another. And I overheard Maddie and Greta speaking about death benefits and checking on the pups of sacrificed warriors who are off at college to make sure they have everything they need to succeed. No one here is alone and that is what my entire goal has been for my foundation, for no child to be alone in the battle of their lives. Almost everything about a pack aligns with my personal ethics of life, family and friendship. I realize as I ascend the packhouse front steps, I could do this. I could be the Luna to these shifters, and I think I’d enjoy it too. I'm hesitant t
JOSH POV “Yeah.” He nods in agreement. “I think that was it.” “Yes. He’s still around. I’ve met him and his mate. Bruno is his youngest kid. His oldest two are the Gamma and Beta for Maddie. Bruno is the Delta.” Rocco’s eyes widen in shock, but then he gets control of himself with a nod, but the tears lining his lower lashes stay present. “I’m really glad he wasn’t killed for helping us escape the warriors. I hope I get to meet him while I’m here.” “I’m sure you will…” I begin but get cut off as Rocco’s head sharply snaps over to the door; a quiet growl emanating from his chest. Standing there, with a completely stunned look on her face is the IT woman I met in the packhouse saferoom, Poppy. She’s carrying a computer bag over her shoulder, but she’s not looking at me. She’s staring at Rocco. “MATE!” They both say in unison. Rocco stands from his chair, but instead of going to her, he takes a step back, away from h
JOSH POV I watch Maddie as she turns from me and leaves Jenna’s hospital room. I turn my attention back to Jenna and check on her. The medical monitors show she’s breathing normally, and her heart rate is normal too. She has an IV line hooked up with what looks like a saline drip, and she has a blood bag in another line, giving her another transfusion. I’m not sure how many she’s had today. “The doctor came in while you and Alpha were checking on the little shifters. The rogue tore into her brachial artery. She would have bled out if the tourniquet hadn’t been placed on her arm, but subsequently, she’s lost quite a bit of blood. More so than she probably should have, given she’s human. She really needs that Bruno guy here to help her heal. Even if she doesn’t want the bond, his touch will speed up the healing process.” Rocco tells me. “Maybe I should give another unit of blood then, just in case.” “No. There were over a dozen human donor
MADDIE POV Now I growl out in anger. “Actually, I’m exactly like my daddy, but I’m nothing like my sperm donor, Kent Michaels. If I could erase him and his family from Blue Meadow’s history, I would. They give alphas a bad reputation. There’s a reason I changed my last name to my true dad’s, I never want to be associated with the Michaels line, if I can help it.” “I assumed you had mated into the Evans family, because I’ve known of you for years. But when I realized Josh is your mate, I was confused. You were adopted into the Evans family. You’re one of the lucky ones.” That last part he mumbles under his breath. “Rocco, I know you and your family were banished by Kent when you were a child. How did you survive and not become feral?” This is the question I’m most curious about, plus my history isn’t a secret, but it isn't what we need to focus on right now. I see Josh turn and look at me in confusion out of my peripheral and I know even more explana
MADDIE POV I see Josh sitting in a chair in the surgical waiting room. He’s sitting across the room from the rogue who was with Jenna. Josh is glaring at him and the rogue has his head down, staring at the floor, his foot bouncing in agitation. Bruno is between them, pacing the floor, anxious about the status of his mate. I’m sure he’s tried to link in and bug Dr. Langford multiple times already. Josh sees me and stands up, making his way over to me. I check him over and sniff his scent while he’s walking. He looks and smells healthy, no wounds from the battle, but I do smell the lingering scent of blood from his donation. His inner elbow now properly bandaged up from the needle. I also smell me on him, and I feel Infinity shake with glee, loving our claim is still so prominent on his skin. We meet in the middle of the doorway and Josh holds me at arm’s length. “How much of this is your blood? Do you need to see a doctor?” He asks and I smile up at
MADDIE POV Fucking rogues! Attacking again! This time though, I know they aren’t here for me and my pack. They are going after some of my allies who aren’t as strong as us. Mitch and Fergie’s short people’s camp is one of those less strong allies. They choose to live in the forests, usually near rivers since most of their members are beaver and otter shifters. There are others shifter species as part of their group too, like fox and badger shifters. Even though they are all different species, they like to live together for safety reasons. They do, on occasion, hire themselves out to human circuses to make money. And they travel around the world, visiting other shifter packs and camps for trade. They are much more nomadic than wolves and they tend to keep to themselves as much as possible. However, the little people shifters have found their own ways to mingle with humans. Along with circuses, they have found other niches within the human
