Deep heavy panting woke me up from my comforting sleep. I struggled to open my eyes but when I finally did, I saw Asher taking out push-ups on the floor. Dazed, I continued staring at him. I can wake up to this every morning!
His biceps relaxed and contracted as he bent down. The muscles of his back bulged out and his leg muscle cuts popped as applied pressure on them. I gulped. He stood up and released a heavy breath. Picking up a bottle from his desk he poured water from it inside his mouth without touching his lips. His neck stretched up and his Adams Apple bobbed up and down as he gulped the water. As if I wasn’t already so mesmerized, his ideal jawline made me even more so.

Have you ever gone through a phase when something happens and you know it might happen sooner or later but when it finally does you can’t really accept the fact that it did? Thump! A sting rushed through my fist as I punched the thick bark of the tree in front of me. Stubborn trees like Aurelia, didn’t even affect it! I kissed her because of that bastard to make a point. That is not how and why I wanted to give her a kiss from me. But it felt good. She moaned. A smirk appeared on my face. And I didn’t do even a tiny portion of what I can do to her. The things I want to do to her. It was a small kiss. I didn’t realize I was laughing. She’s pretty easy to please. My little babe! Stretching, I changed my side. Something was strangely familiar about my couch. It was more comfortable and I felt warmer than before. My eyes flickered open and I saw Asher lying next to me. His lips were slightly parted and the black blanket covered half his chest. The couch can’t take the both of us. I frowned at myself because that is the first thought that crossed my mind. Realization hit me; I was on his bed. Panic rose within me. How did I get here? When did I get here? I slept on the couch. I got up instantly, my heart pounding in my chest. I watched him sleep. Everything around me went quiet and still almost as if time stopped. No more swishing of the leaves or the wind. Even the birds stopped chirping and the squeaking sound of the squirrels coming before were now nowhere to be heard. Not a single sound was made! Gulping, I tried to keep my stance firm. All types of scenarios hit me all at once. He can kill me right here and now and I wouldn’t even see it coming. With my mind still occupied with today’s events, I entered the room completely forgetting that Asher was inside. Making my way to the bathroom, I took off my hoodie and threw it on the couch. I felt a cold sting on my arms and chest. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand. I twisted the door knob but it didn’t open. Must be stuck, I thought. I tried again and luckily it opened. It was more like a touch than a hold and twist. The door opened by itself. It was Asher. He was inside with a towel wrapped around his torso. There was some space between us. Immediately, blood rushed to my cheeks and I flushed. His eyes were on me. I could feel them piercing through me as I took notice of his wet hair which hung roughly above his head. Taking the stairs, I hopped down wearing a dark blue hoodie over dark blue jeans which hugged my thighs and legs along with white thick sole joggers. Five days went by with Asher and I not talking to each other. It was either a small nod or a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ and at the most, not more than five words, literally. Things were getting depressingly tedious for me. My routine was the same as always. Breakfasts were in the room or in the kitchen with Maya, sometimes alone; I was not a fan of lunches that leave dinner. Dinner was downstairs in the dining room, the huge room with just a table and its chairs. It had twenty seats in total. Asher always sat in the front single chair and mine was on his right hand side. “Are you sure she is okay Cole?” I asked as she ran towards the woods. “Yeah, don’t worry about her,” he assured but I wasn’t satisfied by his answer. Something happened but I’ll leave it for now. “If you say so,” looking at the two guys I sighed, “Okay then, do your thing, I’m leaving,” “What thing?” Adrian frowned. I opened my mouth to speak but Cole interrupted, laughing, “She means training,” His mouth formed an ‘o’ before he gave a suggestion, “Why don’t you practice with us?” Cole looked at him. “I mean you should know how to fight,” he elaborated. “Yeah right. Fight who exactly?” I said, smiling weakly.

Taking in a hot sip of my coffee, I took a quick glance at everyone sitting at the table. They were all so focused into their own worlds. This was never the way with my family. We talked and laughed, we actually looked forward to having breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Anything that brought us to the table! It was exciting to talk about the littlest of things. But here, it’s like pack business, pack training or the upcoming ‘Winter Ball,’ otherwise nothing. Well Winter Ball sounds exhilarating to be honest. I hear Ball and I imagine a huge hall with formally dressed men in tuxedos or suits and women in dresses and wine and delectable food and the fresh aroma of enthusiasm and slow dancing. It’s quite…picturesque. Deciding to lighten up the boring atmosphere, I spoke up, taking everyone by surprise especially Asher, “Alpha Solomon, will your pack be joining us at the Winter Ball?”
