Mag-log inSeeing me speechless, Simon immediately snatched his phone from my hand. He looked even angrier than before, as if I had crossed a line I shouldn't have crossed.
"Hello?"
"Simon, was your wife the one who answered my call? What now?"
"Calm down, it's okay! I'll be right there, just wait!" He said, ending the call.
I stood there, waiting for his explanation, my heart almost stopping. Simon glanced at me with a look of anger in his eyes. I didn't understand why he was so angry with me? What had I done wrong to make him so cold?
"Didn't I tell you never to touch my phone, let alone answer it!"
"What's wrong with a wife holding her husband's phone? What did I do wrong?"
"You're making me sicker by the day!"
"You're in a relationship with her? You're in a relationship with Erika Gonzales, aren't you...?" I shouted, filled with emotion, hoping he'd give me an explanation that would make me feel better.
"Are you accusing me of cheating?"
"It's true, you bastard...! Do you think I'm stupid? You went to her apartment to have sex with her, didn't you...?"
"Don't yell at me, you bastard...!"
A hard slap hit me in the face, making me fall to the ground. The slap made me accidentally bite my lip, causing it to bleed.
"Blood?" I muttered. Blood dripped onto the floor, and the pain worsened. I turned to Simon, hoping he'd regret it, apologize, and help me immediately. But instead, I was ignored.
He hurried away, leaving me wounded. I stood up and tried to chase after him. No matter how much it hurt, I didn't want him to see that woman again.
"Simon, wait...! Please don't go!" I said, pulling at his hand. I promised I'd forgive him as long as he stayed.
"Let go of me, I have to go now!"
"Take me to the hospital, please!"
"You're a nurse, you can treat yourself! Erika is in pain, she needs me!"
"I need you more, Simon! I'm your wife...!"
"Let go of my hand, don't you hear? Don't you see what you look like now? Go to church and become a nun, because no man will ever be interested in a boring woman like you again...!"
Simon slapped my hand away and left after shouting at me. I froze on the cold, empty floor of our house. Did I still have the right to cry? Was I allowed to cry? A woman like me, did I still deserve happiness?

"Nina, what happened to your lip?" Rachel asked when she saw my face. I smiled weakly and tried to look okay.
David approached me after hearing Rachel's words. The young man stood right in front of me and held my chin to examine my swollen, bruised lip and cheek.
"Did someone hit you?" David asked. He was even more worried about me than my own husband.
"I fell last night," I replied, swatting his hand away. I didn't want to linger, as it would only make them suspicious.
"Really? Your husband didn't hit you, did he?"
"No, David! He couldn't have hit me. My husband isn't a violent man!"
"Okay, then let me treat your wound!"
"That's not necessary, I've already applied the ointment."
"Nina...! Are you here?" Francesca, the head nurse at the clinic, exclaimed.
"Yes, I'm here, Francesca!"
"Okay, can you come to Doctor Pierre's office now? Today we'll have a patient referred for surgery, so this will be his first shift at the clinic. Doctor Hans has assigned you to assist him."
"Me?"
"Yes, considering you're one of the senior nurses and have worked at this clinic before. So Doctor Hans said you're the most skilled and responsive!"
"Wow, Nina, I thought you'd be promoted. You could be an assistant now, right?" Celine teased me.
"How could I possibly be a doctor's assistant? I'm just a nurse."
"By the way, Nina, that new doctor is really handsome. He's so young and incredibly handsome. It turns out not all geniuses are nerdy, huh?"
I responded to Celine's remark with a faint smile, and besides, I didn't have the energy to think about someone's appearance right now. My heart and mind were still in turmoil because Simon hadn't returned until morning. He hadn't even answered my calls or texts.
I walked to the office of Dr. Pierre Alexander, a neurosurgeon who was supposed to start work two weeks ago, but had been delayed until today.
Knock...knock...
"Excuse me, Dr. Pierre!" I said, knocking twice on his office door.
"Please come in!" He replied. I could hear a young man's voice, and as they say, I was a little amazed to see him sitting in his office chair wearing a light blue shirt.
He was a fair-skinned young man, tall and muscular, with dark brown hair and beautiful hazel eyes. He turned to me as I entered and smiled gently.
"Good morning, Nina Meiyer?" He greeted me.
"Yes, Doctor!"
"Nice to meet you. Doctor Hans recommended you to help me with my initial duties." It was unexpected. He was a friendly, smiling young doctor.
"I don't know why I was recommended," I said, trying to smile even though my lips and cheeks were still sore.
"Please sit!"
"Thank you," I said, sitting down in the chair in front of his desk.
He looked at me intently, as if noticing something odd about my face. The cut on my lip and the bruise on my cheek were too obvious to ignore.
"Are you okay? If you're feeling unwell, you can rest, and we can discuss things when you're feeling better."
"I'm fine, there's nothing to worry about!" I said, my voice trembling. My heart felt so fragile, the image of Simon's disgusted face constantly bothering me.
I should have stayed home today, waiting for him and checking for him. I wouldn't be able to work well if my feelings made me feel like I wasn't on the ground.
My tears flowed without me realizing it. I really didn't want to cry in front of someone I'd just met. But I didn't know where to take this pain.
Doctor Pierre rose from his seat and approached me, feeling guilty for confusing him with my behavior. He took my hand and asked me to stand up and look at him.
"I-I'm sorry, Doctor! I-"
Without a word, without warning, he kissed my lips. I was shocked, but my mind felt blank. The suddenness of his kiss actually made me forget my pain.
"Don't cry, Nina! Since when have you become such a weak woman?"

It felt like a dream. Everything I'd said last night felt like a disturbing dream. I began to hesitate about actually doing it, especially when I arrived at the clinic where I work. I wondered how I could possibly do such a thing."Nina, are you okay?"Doctor Pierre's voice startled me, instantly snapping me out of my disturbing reverie."G-good morning, Doctor?" I greeted him impulsively. Pierre looked confused, as if he knew something was wrong with me."Good morning, you look a bit disheveled today, unlike usual," he said, teasing my disheveled appearance this morning. How could he not? I hadn't even gone home to get my clothes, makeup, or phone. I hadn't brought anything, and Jake had been kind enough to lend me money for the taxi fare."I'm sorry, Doctor! I didn't go home last night, so I wore the uniform I found in my locker. Sorry if it's a bit dirty, I—""No, that's not it! I mean, you look like you're having a hard time. Are you okay?" He asked, his voice filled with concern.
I froze at his ultimatum, it was clear he was trying to warn me. I couldn't move and was forced to stare at his face, which was right in front of me. I'd seen something I shouldn't have."I-I'm sorry, Jake! I just wanted to get a glass of water and-""I told you that you had to prepare everything before entering the room. You know? I don't like people who can't keep their promises. You're no different than that jerk, you're the one who can't be trusted!"His words scared me even more, and I realized I'd made a fatal mistake. I didn't know what I was doing here."I-I'm sorry, Jake! I'm really sorry! I promise I won't tell anyone about this, I'll definitely keep it a secret-""Who cares if you can keep my secret or not! This isn't something I can keep a secret anyway!""W-What do you mean?""As I told you, ma'am! This is my job, and it's not something I can keep secret!" He said. I was stunned, trying to swallow even though my throat was extremely dry.I glanced briefly at the cameras h
I was speechless after hearing that name, which reminded me of an old wound. Maxime Andrew, the name was definitely familiar. But even so, I knew it wasn't the same person. My hands were shaking, and I tried to hide it. Now I was too afraid to ask anything further."What's wrong? Is there something you want to ask?" Jake asked. He asked suspiciously. I felt nervous; if I was right, he was Max's son, that meant there was a chance I'd see him again."No, it's nothing! I'm feeling a bit tired. Can I rest now?" I asked. I'd been feeling overly tired lately."Okay, I'll show you to your room!""To your room?""Yes, there's a spare room you can sleep in.""But is that okay? I don't mind sleeping on the couch. You're willing to let me stay at your house tonight, and I'm very grateful, so—""I have to work tonight, and I'll be using the sofa in the living room, so you can't sleep here. The bedroom is on the second floor, and there's a bathroom inside, too. So you don't have to go outside if y
Kyoto, JapanJuly 28, 2008"Hi Nina? How was school today?" The man asked every time I got home from school. It was a very hot day, and even though I was wearing a short school skirt, it was still very hot."Do you need anything, Mr. Andrew?" I asked, trying to offer him a friendly smile and the courtesy of being a guest at our inn. It was a traditional inn with hot springs and a very popular natural attraction. Despite being an old inn, the building was over 100 years old, tourists still came to stay."I'd like a cold beer if I have one, but it seems like everyone else is busy."He smiled at me kindly, and his handsome face sometimes made me feel uneasy. I felt guilty toward Kenji for having to reject his advances because I seemed attracted to a much older man."Okay, I'll have a cold beer delivered to your room right away!" I said. I began to feel a strange flutter in my chest every time I saw him. It's strange, I've met many inn guests since I was little, but this is the first time
I stood in front of Jake's door, staring at his backside, which was right in front of me. I began to doubt myself. Was it okay to stay overnight in a man's house like this? Would it be a problem?"What should I worry about? Simon clearly doesn't love me anymore. He chose Erika over me, so what should I be afraid of?" My heart was churning. I felt uneasy, realizing that I might have done something wrong, and feeling hurt and angry at my husband's betrayal."You're so beautiful, Madam! You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Even without makeup, you're so beautiful."For some reason, I remembered the words Leo had said earlier that day. Beautiful? He said I was so beautiful? If I were that beautiful, my husband wouldn't have left me and chosen another woman over me. He wouldn't have cheated on me."What's wrong? Come in!" Jake's voice interrupted my thoughts. I felt so hurt and confused. It didn't matter how much I prayed and confessed my sins. God still wasn't on my side, he st
I endured the pain with a bitter smile that I still tried to put on. Let's just say he was right and I was wrong. This was his house, after all; even if I were his wife, it wouldn't be my home."Okay, I'm sorry!" I said as I headed to my bedroom. My mother-in-law and her three children were holding back their smiles at how Simon was treating me; I could see their smiles.Maybe this was for the best; I didn't have to involve myself with this family anymore. I stripped off my clothes and sank into the bathtub. I hoped this would immediately ease some of my stress. But before I could fully enjoy it, footsteps rang out, and the door opened.I gasped in surprise when I saw Simon's face behind the bathroom door. He was still acting the same, cold and curt. I thought ignoring him would be much better, but in reality, he still couldn't completely free himself from me."What are you doing?" He asked me, trying to calm down in the quietest part of the house."Can't you see I'm taking a shower?"
