During the time that the princess didn't visit him, Marcus had been preparing himself to withstand his next torture. Meanwhile, these humans were sucking the blood out of him. This couldn't simply be to study his blood. They were doing something else with it.

Before going out for this mission, Marcus had prepared himself by taking sedatives, consuming poison, and all kinds of other things that could be injected into his blood so that by the time he was caught his blood would already have developed resistance.

What he didn't prepare himself for was to find his … he cursed hating uttering the word even if it was only in his mind but it didn't matter anymore. Yes, she was his breedmate, but it would change nothing because she was human. And there was nothing he could have done to prepare himself to resist her. He would just have to remind himself of what her kind did and why he was here.

As he waited for her to come and see him, he thought of different strategies that would lead her to f

Once Marcus returned home, his brothers were waiting in the supreme hall. He had expected this moment. Saul, the eldest after him, stood at the front, with Joel, Kenan, and Aaron behind him.“Can we talk now without involving our mother?” Saul asked, his voice hard. “What do you intend to do with humans?”“I’m keeping her,” Marcus replied evenly. “She has inventions we need.”Saul tilted his head. “Then maybe I should keep her for you?”Rage stirred in Marcus, though he knew his brother was speaking from hurt. “I’ll handle it myself.”Saul stepped closer, his tone sharp. “I hope you don’t intend to make that human our queen. Because if you do, I won’t only challenge you with words.”Marcus frowned. “You would go that far?”“Yes!” Saul’s voice thundered. “If you won’t protect our people, then I will.”Marcus clenched his jaw, glancing at his other brothers. Joel and Kenan stood with Saul. Only Aaron remained uncertain, caught between them. His chest tightened. Already, his bond with hi

Marcus stared at the blood running down Aria’s hands. It cut into him even though she didn’t seem to feel the pain herself. Coming back here, seeing the broken look in his brother’s eyes, and remembering his sister’s suffering gave him the strength to fight whatever pull this woman had over him.He hadn’t wanted to believe it. He didn’t want to think she would use this weakness against him, twist it into a weapon. Because if she did—if this was true—then what was left of him? What else could he do but rip himself away from the bond that tied him to her? To live like a man half-dead, not crippled in body but broken in mind. But now, she had made him believe. When he saw her standing on that rooftop, even though he was freed from death, something inside him still died. He was doomed to the same fate as his sister. And knowing it now, knowing the agony she must have carried, made the weight of it crush him even harder. How could he have forgotten that while chained? How could he have eve

There was a heavy silence after Marcus admitted she was his breedmate. His brothers, especially Saul the one who had ordered her capture, looked between her and Marcus with anger and disbelief.“Tell me this is a joke.” Saul’s voice was sharp.“It’s not,” Marcus replied firmly. She let her hair fall over her shoulders, but Saul only laughed, though Marcus stayed serious, his eyes locked on her.“Is that so?” Saul muttered as he stalked toward her. Without warning, he grabbed her arm and yanked her closer. His hand shot up to her jaw, gripping it harshly and forcing her to look up at him.Marcus’s brow furrowed.“Saul! What are you doing?” their mother cried, distressed.Marcus lifted his hand slightly, signaling her not to step in.Saul’s grip tightened until pain shot through her jaw. “How do you know she didn’t poison you, trick you into thinking she’s your breedmate?”“Nothing was done to me,” Marcus said evenly, though it was a lie. “She is my breedmate.”“Bloody hell,” Saul hisse

  • The Wolf King's Vow   Chapter 44: The Price of Freedom

Aria kept her eyes shut the entire flight, silently begging for it to be over. Instead, it ended with a crash. The beast released her while she was still too high in the air to land safely, and she hit the ground hard, rolling across the gravel. Her arms and hands stung with fresh scratches. So it begins, she thought grimly as she forced herself back to her feet. The werewolf clearly didn’t know physical pain was nothing new to her. She brushed the dirt from her clothes as he circled back, landing with ease before shifting into his human form. When her eyes caught on the trousers that appeared with his transformation, her mind flickered briefly to the reminder of how magical these creatures were. But the thought vanished the moment his dark eyes locked on hers.“My apologies,” he said, stepping closer. “I forgot you were human… not built to land gracefully.”Aria didn’t respond. Her mind was already elsewhere on Ares. God, was he even alive? What would her uncle do to him? He had risk

Aria sat on her bed, flipping through books on pregnancy prevention. None of them seemed safe enough. The risk was always there. But strangely, she realized she was more worried about protecting her heart than protecting herself from getting pregnant. She let out a dry chuckle at her own frustration. If nothing was truly safe, then being with Marcus wouldn’t be safe either. She couldn’t keep pretending with him, playing along with his charm. She couldn’t let him touch her. Maybe it was for the best. Like Ares had told her—pretending too long would only make her lose herself. And then there was Ares. Just thinking about being with him felt different. The idea of giving herself to him while keeping her walls up unsettled her. She knew the truth: when she let those walls down, feelings had already crept in. If she allowed more, those feelings might grow. And then… what if she changed her mind? What if she abandoned her mission? What if love made her weak before she faced the enemy?Aria

  • The Wolf King's Vow   Chapter 42: Jealousy in His Veins

Ares sat in the laboratory, reading about breedmates. The more he read, the more certain he became of his suspicions yet anger and frustration grew alongside them. He hated the thought of her belonging to another man, especially one he despised. At first, he had wanted to be her first, to give her a memory worth keeping. But now he wasn’t sure. Would it mean anything if she kept her walls up? The point of intimacy would be lost. And if he asked her to lower those walls, even just once, he knew raising them again would be nearly impossible. It would only lead to heartbreak for them both. His grip on the book tightened, his jaw set, his eyes burning. He had already gone too deep. If he took her to bed, if he learned what it felt like to have her beneath him warm, bare, wrapped around him then he would crave more, not less. And wanting more would only destroy him.He had learned the truth: knowing something was often more painful than never knowing at all.Now look at him. Once, he had n
