The pen felt heavier than it should have.

Amara stared at the contract while her heartbeat thundered unevenly inside her chest.

One signature.

That was all it would take to change everything.

Maybe ruin everything.

Damien waited silently across from her, hands resting calmly inside his pockets like he had all the time in the world.

Which, annoyingly, he probably did.

Rich people always looked patient.

Poor people didn’t have that luxury.

Amara swallowed hard.

“This doesn’t even feel real.”

“It

Amara couldn’t breathe. The office blurred around her as Damien turned the phone screen away instinctively, like he already knew she shouldn’t see whatever was on it.Too late. She had heard enough.Warehouse.Tied up.Live feed.Fear crashed through her violently.“I want to see it.”Damien’s expression hardened instantly.“No.”“That’s my brother!”“And I said no.”Anger exploded through the panic.“You don’t get to decide what I can handle!”His jaw tightened sharply.“You are not watching that video.”“Why?!”Because he looked afraid. Not for himself. For her.The realization hit strangely hard.Damien stared at her for one tense second before finally handing the phone to Elias instead.“Describe it.”Elias glanced at the screen carefully. His face darkened immediately.“No visible injuries,” he said quietly. “He appears conscious.”Amara nearly collapsed from relief.“He’s okay?”“For now.”Those two words poisoned the air instantly.Sienna grabbed Amara’s hand tightly.“We’ll ge

“What files?”Amara’s voice barely sounded human anymore. The office remained frozen in silence while Elias handed Damien a phone.A distorted recording played softly through the speaker.Static crackled. Then a man’s voice spoke:> “Tick-tock, Blackwood.”“You spent years hunting ghosts.”“Now let’s see how many people die for your obsession.”The recording ended.Silence crashed down immediately afterward.Amara felt cold all over.Damien’s face became unreadable.Which terrified her more than anger.“What files are they talking about?” she whispered again.Slowly, Damien looked toward the investigation wall.“The evidence I’ve collected against Moretti.”Understanding hit instantly. The photographs. The missing girls. The surveillance.Everything.“They want you to give up the investigation.”“Yes.”“And if you don’t…”Nobody answered.Because nobody needed to.Sienna covered her mouth quietly.Elias stepped closer toward Damien.“We should move Miss Bennett immediately.”“No,” Ama

The world stopped.Amara stared at Damien as the words replayed violently inside her head.> Your brother is missing.No.No no no.“That’s not funny.”Her voice sounded wrong. Thin. Panicked.Damien’s expression didn’t change.Which made it worse.Amara stood so quickly the chair nearly crashed backward.“What do you mean missing?”Elias was already moving toward the door, phone pressed against his ear.“Lock down the hospital,” he ordered sharply. “Nobody leaves.”Sienna grabbed Amara’s arm immediately.“Hey. Breathe first.”“No.” Amara shook her head violently. “No, where’s Noah? What happened?!”Damien crossed the room quickly.“The transport team lost visual contact ten minutes ago.”Her blood turned ice cold.“How do you lose a sick teenager?!”“The vehicle never arrived at the private facility.”Panic exploded through her chest.Amara grabbed Damien’s shirt before she even realized she was moving.“You promised me he was safe!”The office went silent. Her breathing shook violen

  • The billionaire's dark contract   Chapter One

Rain hammered against the glass walls of the Grand Victoria Hotel, turning the city outside into a blur of silver lights and shadows.Inside, everything glittered.Crystal chandeliers.Expensive laughter.Champagne flowing like water.Amara Bennett balanced a tray of wine glasses against one palm while weaving carefully through a crowd of wealthy guests dressed in diamonds and arrogance. Her feet ached in her heels, her lower back burned from the double shift, and her phone kept vibrating inside her apron pocket with hospital payment reminders she could no longer afford to ignore.“Table twelve needs another bottle,” her manager snapped while rushing past her. “And smile, Amara. These people are paying more for one dinner than your yearly salary.”Amara forced a polite expression onto her face.Luxury always smelled strange to her.Too clean.Too cold.Like nobody inside these expensive rooms had ever cried over unpaid bills or skipped meals so someone else could eat.A man brushed pa

  • The billionaire's dark contract   Chapter Two

Amara barely remembered leaving the hotel hallway alive. One moment Damien Blackwood was staring at her with those cold grey eyes, and the next she was back downstairs carrying champagne trays while her hands trembled so badly she nearly dropped an entire bottle on a senator’s wife. Her mind replayed the scene endlessly. The blood. The silence. The way Damien had looked at her like he could see every frightened thought crossing her face. And worst of all?He knew her name.By midnight, the gala finally ended.Amara rushed into the employee locker room, changing out of her uniform as quickly as possible. Her body ached from exhaustion, but anxiety crawled beneath her skin too violently for sleep.Sienna sat cross-legged on one of the benches scrolling through her phone.“You look like you saw a ghost,” she said immediately.Amara grabbed her bag shakily. “I might have seen worse.”That got Sienna’s attention.“What happened?”Amara hesitated. Then shook her head.“I can’t talk about it

  • The billionaire's dark contract   Chapter Three

The inside of Damien Blackwood’s car smelled like leather, rain, and danger.Amara sat stiffly beside the tinted window while the city blurred past outside in streaks of gold and silver light. Across from her, Damien remained silent, one hand resting loosely against the armrest as if he hadn’t just dragged a stranger into the center of her own panic.Sienna’s horrified face still lingered in Amara’s mind.Do not go anywhere with this man.Too late now.The car was already moving.Elias Kane sat in the front passenger seat, broad shoulders rigid beneath a black suit. He hadn’t spoken once since Amara entered the vehicle, but she could feel his awareness constantly.Watching.Measuring.Like security cameras disguised as a person. Finally, Amara broke the silence.“How do you know about my brother?”Damien didn’t look at her.“I told you already,” he said calmly. “I know many things.”“That isn’t an answer.”His gaze shifted toward her then.Sharp grey eyes.Cool and unreadable.“It’s t
