Chapter 140

Director Caius successfully dragged me into his apartment. I dropped onto the couch, arms folded, while he disappeared into the bathroom. The sound of running water echoed, and I tapped my foot impatiently. Boredom clawed at me until I finally stood up to leave—only to freeze when I turned and came face-to-face with him.

Dripping wet. A white towel hanging low on his waist. His chest glistened under the dim light.

“Oh my God…” Heat rushed through me in a wave. I fanned myself with both hands, tearing my gaze away.

But the moment I turned again, he was already standing right in front of me.

“Ah!” I yelped, stumbling back, but his hand caught my arm. In one pull, he dragged me against him, my head thudding against his bare chest.

For a moment I forgot to breathe. His heartbeat pounded steady beneath my ear, loud enough to drown out my thoughts. My eyes fluttered open and closed in panic, and I swallowed hard.

“I thought you left,” he said quietly.

I scoffed, jerking away fro

Chapter 142Selene’s POVI woke with a long yawn and an even longer stretch, a smile tugging at my lips before I was even fully aware of it. Palming my face, I slid off the bed and padded over to the mirror.“Good morning,” I told my reflection with a grin.I cupped my cheeks, tilting my head. “Aren’t I beautiful?” I whispered with a little giggle, then headed into the bathroom. The cool water against my skin woke me up more than the morning light streaming through the window. I brushed my teeth lazily, half-distracted—until my phone buzzed.A notification? I squinted at the screen.A group chat? The message blinked at me. Get ready for our first meeting. Don’t be late.My stomach flipped. My heart jumped.Oh God. I was going to see him.I squeaked, hopping once on my toes, almost dropping my toothbrush in the sink. Quickly rinsing my mouth, I hurried out.“Good morning, Grandma!” I called as I bounded down the stairs. She peeked out of the kitchen, eyebrows pinched in confusion. “Did

Chapter 141Director Caius’ POVHow was I supposed to tell her? That she was Selene. The one I had longed for all these years. The one I had waited lifetimes for.My hand lifted almost on its own, brushing her hair back and tucking a strand behind her ear.“She died,” I murmured. Her expression shifted, her eyes dimming. Guilt flickered across her face.“I’m sorry,” she whispered.“But I found my Selene now,” I said, my voice laced with possessiveness. “I don’t feel alone anymore. You’re mine, Selene.”She raised a brow, lips twitching with defiance. “You keep saying I’m yours, but I don’t remember agreeing to that.”I frowned, straightening. “Have you forgotten? You once asked me to date you—to make Chris jealous.”Her lips smacked together in embarrassment. “I never said I wanted to make Chris jealous.”She chuckled softly, then moved closer, lowering herself onto the couch beside me.“Then… let’s date.”My eyes widened. “Date? Again?”“Yes. No Chris this time.”She shook her head f

Chapter 139Chris shoved me out of the way.I hit the ground hard, and he landed on top of me, breathing heavily. For a moment, I was too shocked to move, too stunned to speak. Chris scrambled up and looked toward the street, but the bike was already long gone, its tail light disappearing into the night.“Selene!” His voice snapped me back. My eyelids fluttered, my heart still hammering. Chris gently helped me to my feet.“Are you okay?” he asked, his eyes searching mine.I managed a small nod, though my legs were trembling beneath me.“I’ll take you home,” he said firmly, already hailing a cab.The car pulled up, and before long we were at the mansion. Chris kept an arm steadying me as he opened the gate. He pressed the doorbell, and Grandma hurried out.“Oh, what happened to her?” Her voice cracked as she rushed to us, holding the door wide.Chris guided me to the couch, and Grandma quickly brought water. I sipped slowly, my hands still unsteady.“Selene, are you sure you’re okay?”

Chapter 138Everyone’s attention swung to me. I froze for a second, then laughed to break the tension.“Mary is drunk. What kind of game is kiss your partner? That’s absurd.”Director Caius leaned back, smirking. “Well, I like it.”I shot him a sharp side glance and whispered just loud enough for him to hear, “Look at who’s sitting beside me.”He cleared his throat immediately. “On second thought, no—we’re not playing that game.”I covered my mouth, stifling my laughter.Jordan raised his glass. “How about a toast to Director Caius, for hosting this party?”Everyone nodded, glasses rising in unison.I kept mine close but untouched. I knew one thing well: I couldn’t hold alcohol.Just as I was about to set my glass down, Chris reached for it—but Caius was quicker. He snatched it from me and downed the contents in a single gulp, wiping his mouth as if daring anyone to challenge him.Jordan clapped his hands. “Time to eat!”Cheers erupted around the table. Soon the servers brought platte

  • The chosen luna   Chapter 137

Chapter 137I woke up to the warm ray of sunlight streaming through the window. My eyes fluttered open, and I sat up slowly, stretching. The bed beside me was empty.I scratched my scalp and climbed down from the bed. Probably he’s in the kitchen, I thought as I padded into the sitting room. But no one was there. My brows furrowed when I noticed something on the dining table. I walked closer and saw a tray covered neatly. Removing the lid, I was hit by the unmistakable aroma. Spicy noodles.A chuckle slipped from me. How did he know I liked spicy noodles?Beside the tray was a small card. I picked it up, reading his bold handwriting:Gone to work. Make sure you eat. That was all.I scoffed softly. He could have at least woken me before leaving. But the curve of a smile tugged my lips anyway. Pulling a chair out, I sat down to savor the noodles before they grew cold.~~~~~At the office, I had barely settled at my desk when Jordan and Mary appeared before me.I looked up at them, puzzl
