The half truth

"Damien's mother," I whispered letting the truth soak slowly in my brain. 

It was the reason for his hatred towards me. But how was it right to punish me for something I had no idea about. 

No wonder he wanted Amber. Just thinking about them created a sour feeling in my chest. The memory was still too fresh to be forgotten.

"I am sorry. You really had no idea about this." Emily's voice reminded me of her presence in the room. 

She was sitting quietly observing me, probably thinking what would be the right words to tell someone who just found out the secret linking her soulmate and her hometown.

"I feel so stupid. How did I not see it," the words were not meant for her, they were meant for me to realize how I sat in my room with eyes closed from reality. 

The dinners, all the get-togethers for old families of the town they were not just dinners where everyone chatted about their everyday lives.
