James' POV
David had just ended a call with his insider, and was telling me about a supposed truck that will be carrying the Mayor's goods, out of the town by evening towards the southern road that led to the City. Those idiot vampires.I knew it had something to do with blood. But, as always, all I needed to know were 'when' and 'to where' the goods were going.I sent my messages to the team. They were mostly orphans who lost their parents to vampires, and in a way destiny has brought us together to hunt vampires down. With the information from David's informant, we planned how the ambush would play out. It was going to be clean, fast and swift.By evening, we were in formation waiting. It was about 6:45pm when I heard the screeching of a truck fast approaching. I signaled everyone to positions, and to stay close behind the trees, except for Kayla who stood with me on the road because she'd be driving the truck to the hideout. As we crouched in the dense foliage, waiting for the truck to pass, the only sound that filled the air was the rustling of leaves and the soft whistling of the wind. The trees seemed to loom over us, as if they were keeping an eye on our every move. We had been waiting for hours, and tension was high among our team. Somewhere in the woods, I can hear a stream trickling over rocks and the chirping of birds.I was standing some distance ahead of the fast approaching car with my face hidden in the mask I wore, and my head was bowed. The truck was driving deep into the forest road which leads out of the town, engulfed in the long tunnel of trees whose branches extended over the road, clacking in the autumn wind.I was standing there, in the middle of the road, with a big log of fresh-cut wood blocking their free passage of the truck. The world was a beautiful place before these vampires, who were to quench their thirst with the blood of fresh dead animals, decided to feed on humans. I thought to myselfSuddenly, the fast approaching truck hit a log of wood that had been carefully placed on the road. The truck screeched to a stop, this showed that the driver had instantly marched the brakes at the sight of the woods. The driver and his companion came out of the car. "What the hell are you doing standing in the road? You suicidal or what? The driver glanced at me. He glanced over at his companion, who stood beside him on his dirty gray mare with his hood up."Change of plans… The driver is a human." I exclaimed loudly. There was a surprise on the driver's face."Don't even think about it" I glanced at the other man, who clenched his fist and was about to attack me."Or what, mate?" He roaredI slid my hands into my pockets and sighed, "Or that'll be the last fist you ever get to clench in your life." He didn't seem to like this but he released his fist and buried his hands into his pockets. He laughed, then, unclenched his fist and took some steps forward. "There are two of us here. Let me see, well, you're all alone. We could kill you for all we care and nobody will know we did mate. You know that, right?"I smiled. Move three steps closer to the truck, mindful of the movements each man will make, I had already foreseen that if the driver attacks, David's bullet will take him down, as for the vampire, he is as good as dead already. "And, don't also think of running, you're surrounded."The driver's eyes widened instantly, he raised his eyebrows, his eyes darted around, searching for any signs of danger but there were none. When he was certain he didn't see anyone around. He laughed, "Young man, we gonna have to run you over if you don't step out of the fucking road." The driver busted angrily.I shook my head, taking my eyes from the driver to his companion, took some steps forward, closer to the men. leaves rained gently on the road, shaken from their branches by the autumn wind."For starters, I've got six men aiming at you two, each gun is loaded with a silver bullet that can kill a vampire instantly," I said sternly, "I guess you've watched 'Blade'? Well, that's what I mean."I could see the two men now frightened realizing what they were facing, that I wasn't alone, I was not just a common thief, and that my team has got guns with bullets that can kill a vampire."I'm not going to hurt anyone. I am here for the truck and whatever is in the truck. Nobody needs to get hurt. I'm taking only the truck. However, if you stay in my way, I'll be taking your lives too" I declared. Even as I said this, I did not expect the vampire to not try to attack me, which he did and from nowhere, a bullet struck his head and his body became pale instantly."Please, don't kill me. I have a wife and a daughter. I needed the job to be able to pay my girl's school fees." The driver was shaking with fear. "Here's the key. You can have it." He said and threw the set of keys towards me. As I moved closer to him and bent to pick up the keys, a bullet struck him.The man had wanted to grab the gun in his jeans. His eyes were fixed on James who was bending down. But just as he made to draw his gun, there was a sudden explosion of sound, a sharp crack came from David's trigger which sent him crashing to the ground, gasping for air. David had noticed and was aware of the driver's movements. "Motherfucker! It's sad you made me take your life too. Now, your daughter has become an orphan. And guess what? You won't have to pay school fees anymore."It'd have been surprising if I didn't know who David was. He continued talking to the dead man like he was hearing. One thing is for sure when it comes to my brother, he doesn't gives a fuck. As planned, Kayla was to drive the truck to the hideout. I watched as she walked to the truck, got herself in, positioned her hands on the steering and a deceptive smile split across her face. I knew what she was going to do. Kayla had always been a reckless driver. That's why she's David's favorite. "Just be careful." I yanked at her, regretting why I had agreed to let her drive the truck initially.Lorraine stood before a giant mirror, she stared deeply at her reflection, she was not familiar with the person staring back at her. Her hair was scattered over her face, her eyes swollen from sleeplessness. Correctly said: swollen due to the stress she has been through. She observed herself, her dirty clothes, her stained face and the new cuts left on her arm by the ridges that had pierced her in the woods."This isn't me, this can't be me." She whispered to herself. She used her hand to adjust the strands of hair littered over her face, then placed her fingers on her cheeks and raised them up to force a smile on her face. She was not satisfied. She still looked pale and sick. She was still trying to design a good enough smile on your face when she heard a voice trotting towards the room she was in. It was James's voice telling whoever it was in the parlor to go get some rest. Lorraine could not understand the sudden feeling of familiarity she felt for James, it was as though she h
Lorraine's POV This was the first time I have ever seen myself like this. I looked awful. If I were to audition for the role of a witch in Harry Potter I'd get the role without raising my eyebrows high.I heard James' voice from the veranda outside. He was coming to my room. David didn't seem to like the way James treats me. It was written all over his face this morning when James moved me from the prison-like room to this beautiful heaven, decorated with green curtains.Immediately he walked in, I moved away from the mirror, not wanting him to see me staring at myself. He was wearing a red Hawaiian shirt, buried In a gray trouser and wore a baseball cap. Damn, He looked more handsome than he was earlier. He had curly hair and a perfect smile that complemented his body. His chest was broad, it'd have been too wide if not for his arm muscles that fitted perfectly. He walked to the window and spread them open, then he moved to the bed and sat at the edge. "Sorry, I felt the room ne
David walked into the town. He loved to roam about Lightwood in the daytime when almost everyone was carried away with their activities."The mayor's going to say something about the missing girls," a man said and David slowed to hear."We all know they'll be dead by now. Nobody returns after getting missing," the other man replied. David pushed himself through the crowd until he was finally standing where he would hear everything that the Mayor was saying. He fixed his eyes on the podium and let out an irritated smug. The mayor was assuring the crowd that the missing people would be found. And that he had put in special officers to find them.David grined. "This fucking bastard."What special officers is he talking about? Did he meant vampires? "The last time they were seen was at the party two days ago," a voiced echoed from the crowd. The voice spoke again, "Who knows, they might have been eaten by a wild animal. I heard they were seen walking back home through the woods," he su
Abigail"I'll kill you," I heard the voice echoed and I instantly knew that it was referring to Lorraine. But there was nothing I could do to help. If I go out, I'll get caught too and killed.I ran towards the existence of the forest, enduring the thorns that prickled my feet. Suddenly my legs got tangled in tree roots and I fell to the ground, hitting my head on a tree trunk. "Ouch!" I screamed in pains. Trying to crawl was as bad as the scream. the last thing I remembered was that the moon was glowing. it was a beautiful night.*********"Where am I?" I whimpered, struggling to frer my hands from the rope holding them together."You must be Abigail?" The Mayor said, appearing from the door. He moved closer to where I was."Please, don't kill me," I begged, shaking my head sideways, tears streaming down my eyes heavily. "Please."He smiled, ignoring me for a moment. Then he motioned to one of his men, "Get the tape." "Untie her."The guard did exacts he was told. He loosened the
"Lorraine," James called, walked into the room but he stopped immediately his eyes fell on her sleeping on the bed. She was wrapped in a blanket. James could not tell why he felt happy that she had decided to sleep. He grinned, darting his mind away from the thoughts clouding together. "How long have you been staring at me," Lorraine's voice brought him back to the present. His eyes dropped in embarrassment. "I... I just entered.""Well, I woke up about three minutes ago," Lorraine countered, making him more embarrassment. She scrambled out of bed, and stood up. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to…" "I was joking," she giggled. "You can die standing if you like."He smiled. "No nightmares, right?" He liked the sound of her voice, the way her head tilted first one way then another as she talked. It made her dark hair move against her neck and bare shoulders."Woke up as I slept," she replied, yawning. "What would you like to know, Lorraine?"She sighed. "What's happening, James?"Exact
As James opened his mouth to speak, a smile curled out of his lips instead. He stood up from the bed and began to walk out of the room.Lorraine did not plan for any of this to happen. It has drawn on her that it wasn't James's fault that she got herself into this mess.It was all her fault, everything; all her fault. She sighed deeply.Lorraine's body suddenly fell into a pool of regret. At that moment, she realized that what she said to James was a mistake - a mistake that she hadn't intended to make.James walked his way out of the room. He wished he could just tell Lorraine lots of things she wanted to know. He didn't because he knew he would not be able to control himself. There were lots of things he should not tell her. However, it would be hard to explain all these without Sasha coming in.Lorraine ran and stood in his way. It was time to pull the girly button. She stretched her hands out, "I'm sorry, James." She was in tears by now, her voice was shaking.Although James had
James and Lorraine walked into a basement that was well decorated, with different kinds of sitting chairs. In the middle of the room, there was a not too big center table. As she and James entered, she saw five people sitting in a way that made it obvious they were in a formal meeting. "I'm sorry I'm late." James apologized as he was headed towards an empty chair to sit. He then motioned to Lorraine to also have a sit. "That's what you've been doing lately, Jimmy." A man with a laptop on his lap replied James. His tone showed he was not angry; rather, he spoke in a friendly and respectful way."What's been keeping you occupied, James?" Kayla asked glaring at Lorraine who was still standing."I've been trying to sort some things out lately and it almost skipped my mind that we were meeting today. Have a sit, Lorraine.""What is she doing here James?" David asked in a tone that carried total disapproval of the situation. James ignored the question and went ahead to introduce Lorraine t
