MasukThe past few days had been peaceful for Aurelia. Too peaceful it became boring, but that was better than speaking to Hardin. Ever since the day Hardin returned from her father’s office, he had been avoiding her like a plague. The threats stopped, she could eat whenever she wanted to, do whatever she liked. Life has been very peaceful, but a part of her still wished she could go back to her normal life. Then she sat down and did her analysis. There was nothing special about her old life; She went to work, go out with her friends on free days. She just realized she could still continue living that same life under Hardin’s roof. She had rested enough and today, she decided she would visit her fashion store to see how it was going. The door to her room opened after a knock, and Linda walked in holding a tray containing breakfast.“You’re going out?” Linda asked, upon seeing her outfit.“Yes.” Aurelia replied, adjusting her earrings. She spared the tray a spare before lookin
Aurelia stood next to her window, her hand rubbing her necklace pendant. She had just finished speaking to her dad and she told him everything that had been happening; Hardin’s threat and her uncomfortable stay in the house. Her dad had promised to call Hardin to talk to him and even though she begged him not to, he insisted he would meet up with Hardin to speak with him. Ever since, she had been standing next to her window, waiting to watch him leave the house. And there it goes. She saw him heading to the garage, dressed in a black suit. Her brows raised. He was going to meet her father, why would he dress so corporate. She shrugged it off and bent her wrist to her face, reading the time from the watch.“It’s past two. It will take about two hours before he’ll get back home.” She muttered. As soon as she saw the car driving out of the compound, she closed her curtain and hurried out of the room. On getting downstairs, she overheard a feminine voice speaking, it was coming
Hardin was seated quietly in his room, his fingers moving magically fast on the keypads of the laptop in front of him.His entire focus was on what he was doing, until his phone rang. He glanced at the screen and then focused back on what he was doing, allowing the phone to continue ringing. The call ended and the person called again. Reluctantly, he picked the call and placed it on loud speaker, that way he could continue with what he was doing.“What do you want?” He spoke first.“We have a serious problem, boss.” He could hear the urgency in the voice of his worker. His fingers stopped. “What happened?”********* Aurelia’s eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the bright light of the room. For a moment, her head went blank. She couldn’t think of anything, other than staring around the room. When she finally recalled what happened, she jumped down from the bed.“How did I get here?” She mumbled in confusion. She could recall blacking out, and the next thing, she found hersel
The TV in the room was on, showing an interesting movie, but Aurelia’s attention was diverted. She wasn’t watching the movie. Her gaze was fixed on a particular direction, staring at nothing in particular, just lost in deep thoughts. Hardin’s words rang in her head like an alarm. She couldn’t shake it off, not because it hurt her, but because she didn’t understand what he meant by that.“I see you are cunning. Just like your father” She had been pondering on the words for some minutes now and wondered what he meant by that. She snapped out of her thought when she heard her door creaking open. Her eyes moved towards the door and when she saw who it was, a sudden wave of anger surge through her.“What are you doing here?” She stood up from the bed and walked to Oliver who had his hands crossed, with his back now leaning on the closed door.“To talk.” His tone was serious. She scoffed. “Is that the reason you didn’t knock? Don’t you know the meaning of privacy?” “Come on, Aureli
Her hands clenched at her sides, nails digging into her palms. She swallowed hard, forcing herself to stand tall despite the burning embarrassment. She wanted to walk away, but it would be labeled as a walk of shame. In as much as she wanted to escape the sharp glances of both brothers and the lingering weight of their presence, she wouldn’t give Hardin the satisfaction of thinking he’d humiliated her.“I thought as much.” She looked up at him and found him staring at her, but he looked away immediately. She followed his gaze and it rested on Oliver who stared back at her. His gaze calm and unreadable.“Got home extremely late, but I did sleep.” Oliver spared Hardin a stare before returning his gaze to Aurelia. “Did you sleep well, sister-in-law?” Aurelia chuckled dryly. She knew Oliver was trying to save her from the embarrassment, and she could pay a thousand dollars to replay the look on Hardin’s face.“Yes, thank you.” She replied with a light smile. “Linda and I will give
It was a bright morning and the sun was up, shining directly into Aurelia’s bedroom from the window. She was wide awake, her legs on the bed with her hands wrapped around it while she stared at the news being displayed on the TV. She’d been following up a fashion contest that would be held soon and the date for the application was promised to be announced soon enough. So every morning, she made sure to check.“Just let us know if it’s not going to hold anymore.” She hissed and switched off the TV, tossing the remote to the other side of the bed. The day had just begun and she had no idea what to do with it. She was tempted to visit her fashion store, but it was barely a day after her wedding. She found it odd to resume work immediately. She got out of the bed and sauntered towards the window, where she stood, watching outside. The compound was extremely big. The garage was located directly opposite her window and she could see the cars parked there. They were luxurious and
