The kiss wasn’t soft, it was a collision, deep and hungry, the kind that tasted like defiance. She melted against him before she could stop herself, every wall she’d built cracked beneath the force of it.

Her chest rose and fell, her heartbeat thundered loud enough for him to hear.

She’d been wanting this, not him, not anyone in particular, but this feeling. The weight of being wanted.

For a moment, there was no noise from the street, no air between them, just heat, and the realization that she’d been starving for this.

She reciprocated the kiss, giving back the same energy; hunger and urgency.

He grabbed her legs, carried her up and placed her on the car bumper without breaking from the kiss.

His hands fisted her hair and pulled it back, and she let out a moan in his mouth.

His touch was hot and possessive and she surrendered to him without a shred of resistance.

It was only a kiss but it felt so much illicit and dangerous.

That moment, she didn’t think of her upcoming wedding, she didn’t think of anything else, just the heat from the touch of the stranger.

Her hands found its way to his shirt and just as she was about to unbutton it, he pulled away from the kiss.

“In as much as I want to make you scream badly, I do not want to do that outside, on a car.” His dark eyes moved away from her lips, resting on her eyes. “You deserve a bed.”

She licked her lips, not ready to let him go.

“I… I know a hotel nearby.” The words slipped out.

He smirked. “Good. Brace yourself up, darling. You’ll be getting the best pleasure of your entire life.”

She swallowed hard. Having a one night stand with a stranger wasn’t on her list, but then there was no harm in having pleasure before a lifetime commitment the next day.

Consumed by heat of having each other, they drove in her car to the hotel nearby. Indeed, he gave her the best pleasure she’d ever had.

THE WEDDING

She shook her head slowly, hoping he would understand what she meant by that.

In as much as she didn’t want to get married and would be happy if anything stopped the wedding from holding, she didn’t want it to be him.

It would be a shame if he revealed what happened last night. Her parents would be disappointed in her that she hooked up with a stranger a night before her wedding.

And the worse part? He wasn’t just a stranger, but her soon to be husband’s brother.

She tore her gaze away from him and stared at her soon to be husband who looked uninterested in the whole thing.

“Young man, speak up.” The priests urged.

Everyone’s gaze was on him, waiting for him to talk.

When she looked back at him, he had a little smirk on his face. A smirk which only she could understand.

“Nothing, actually.” He took his seat and crossed his legs. “Just wanted to spice things up.”

Nervous laughters were heard amongst the guests but the tension was still there.

Aurelia let out a deep breath she had been holding. She looked away from him and joined her sweaty palms together.

“Were you expecting something?” For the first time, she heard the voice of her soon to be husband.

“N-no. I was just surprised.” She almost stuttered.

He didn’t say any further words. The union was blessed and they were now joined together in holy matrimony.

Everyone proceeded to the reception hall, and the decorations were fascinating, exactly the one she picked.

All through, her husband wasn’t by her side. If he wasn’t taking calls, he was talking to different business men present at the wedding.

Her fake smile remained on her face as different people came to congratulate her where she was seated.

When she spotted him amidst the crowd, her chest tightened. He looked her way and their gaze met.

Immediately, she looked away. She wouldn’t let his brown eyes control her like they did last night.

She forced herself to keep smiling, nodding at congratulations she barely heard.

But when she dared to glance back again, he was still watching her. That infuriating smirk on his face.

Her heart skipped. She turned away, gripping her wine glass tightly.

She decided to distract herself by taking pictures of her friends whom were busy giggling at the groomsmen and flirting. But then, a message popped on her screen, from an unknown number.

“Enjoying your wedding, darling? I can still taste you. Congratulations, by the way.”

She didn’t need a soothsayer to tell her who sent the text.

It was at that moment she realized the mess she had gotten herself into.

She was in for a wild ride.

Her brows furrowed instantly.“You?” she said, her tone flat.Oliver looked up slowly, completely unbothered.A faint smirk tugged at his lips. “You do have other meaningful things doing aside clubbing.” Aurelia glanced briefly at the attendants nearby, then back at him.“Office.” She said strictly.Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked away. She didn’t need to check. She knew he would follow. And he did. As soon as they got to the office, she shut the door and turned to him, crossing her hands.“What are you doing here?” She tried to be as calm as she could. The last thing she wanted was her workers hearing her lash out. Oliver didn’t reply. His gaze moved around the office. “Did Hardin send you here to destroy’ my store?” She laid emphasis on the word ‘destroy’ Oliver’s brows creased. “Why would Hardin destroy your store?” She scoffed. “Are you playing dumb or you really don’t know what your brother said to me?” Oliver took slow steps towards her. “How am

  • The night before the wedding    A moment of peace

The past few days had been peaceful for Aurelia. Too peaceful it became boring, but that was better than speaking to Hardin. Ever since the day Hardin returned from her father’s office, he had been avoiding her like a plague. The threats stopped, she could eat whenever she wanted to, do whatever she liked. Life has been very peaceful, but a part of her still wished she could go back to her normal life. Then she sat down and did her analysis. There was nothing special about her old life; She went to work, go out with her friends on free days. She just realized she could still continue living that same life under Hardin’s roof. She had rested enough and today, she decided she would visit her fashion store to see how it was going. The door to her room opened after a knock, and Linda walked in holding a tray containing breakfast.“You’re going out?” Linda asked, upon seeing her outfit.“Yes.” Aurelia replied, adjusting her earrings. She spared the tray a spare before lookin

  • The night before the wedding    Silent threats

Aurelia stood next to her window, her hand rubbing her necklace pendant. She had just finished speaking to her dad and she told him everything that had been happening; Hardin’s threat and her uncomfortable stay in the house. Her dad had promised to call Hardin to talk to him and even though she begged him not to, he insisted he would meet up with Hardin to speak with him. Ever since, she had been standing next to her window, waiting to watch him leave the house. And there it goes. She saw him heading to the garage, dressed in a black suit. Her brows raised. He was going to meet her father, why would he dress so corporate. She shrugged it off and bent her wrist to her face, reading the time from the watch.“It’s past two. It will take about two hours before he’ll get back home.” She muttered. As soon as she saw the car driving out of the compound, she closed her curtain and hurried out of the room. On getting downstairs, she overheard a feminine voice speaking, it was coming

  • The night before the wedding    The price of curiosity

Hardin was seated quietly in his room, his fingers moving magically fast on the keypads of the laptop in front of him.His entire focus was on what he was doing, until his phone rang. He glanced at the screen and then focused back on what he was doing, allowing the phone to continue ringing. The call ended and the person called again. Reluctantly, he picked the call and placed it on loud speaker, that way he could continue with what he was doing.“What do you want?” He spoke first.“We have a serious problem, boss.” He could hear the urgency in the voice of his worker. His fingers stopped. “What happened?”********* Aurelia’s eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the bright light of the room. For a moment, her head went blank. She couldn’t think of anything, other than staring around the room. When she finally recalled what happened, she jumped down from the bed.“How did I get here?” She mumbled in confusion. She could recall blacking out, and the next thing, she found hersel

  • The night before the wedding    Behind closed doors

The TV in the room was on, showing an interesting movie, but Aurelia’s attention was diverted. She wasn’t watching the movie. Her gaze was fixed on a particular direction, staring at nothing in particular, just lost in deep thoughts. Hardin’s words rang in her head like an alarm. She couldn’t shake it off, not because it hurt her, but because she didn’t understand what he meant by that.“I see you are cunning. Just like your father” She had been pondering on the words for some minutes now and wondered what he meant by that. She snapped out of her thought when she heard her door creaking open. Her eyes moved towards the door and when she saw who it was, a sudden wave of anger surge through her.“What are you doing here?” She stood up from the bed and walked to Oliver who had his hands crossed, with his back now leaning on the closed door.“To talk.” His tone was serious. She scoffed. “Is that the reason you didn’t knock? Don’t you know the meaning of privacy?” “Come on, Aureli

  • The night before the wedding    The breakfast

Her hands clenched at her sides, nails digging into her palms. She swallowed hard, forcing herself to stand tall despite the burning embarrassment. She wanted to walk away, but it would be labeled as a walk of shame. In as much as she wanted to escape the sharp glances of both brothers and the lingering weight of their presence, she wouldn’t give Hardin the satisfaction of thinking he’d humiliated her.“I thought as much.” She looked up at him and found him staring at her, but he looked away immediately. She followed his gaze and it rested on Oliver who stared back at her. His gaze calm and unreadable.“Got home extremely late, but I did sleep.” Oliver spared Hardin a stare before returning his gaze to Aurelia. “Did you sleep well, sister-in-law?” Aurelia chuckled dryly. She knew Oliver was trying to save her from the embarrassment, and she could pay a thousand dollars to replay the look on Hardin’s face.“Yes, thank you.” She replied with a light smile. “Linda and I will give

  • The night before the wedding    The morning after

It was a bright morning and the sun was up, shining directly into Aurelia’s bedroom from the window. She was wide awake, her legs on the bed with her hands wrapped around it while she stared at the news being displayed on the TV. She’d been following up a fashion contest that would be held soo
